Several items on long ago booked leading Supermarket home delivery now unavailable!

I booked an Xmas delivery slot with one of the leading supermarkets in late November. I'd carefully planned the menu etc.

I've just logged back in today to add some more items to this delivery, when I noticed that several of the items I've asked for are listed as 'No longer available'. I wouldn't mind if it was the odd thing here or there but these Christmas staples, such as chestnuts, breadcrumbs etc. All but one of the ingredients I needed for my pudding are also now unavailable.

I'm now going to have to do an additional shop I didn't want to do, as well as totally reconsider my pudding.

I'm pretty hacked off to be honest as I had booked this specifically because it's hard for me to get to the shops at the best of times. I particularly wanted to avoid it at this time of year.

I thought the whole point of them releasing delivery slots early was so that you could ensure you got a delivery and all your hard to get items! I appreciate they can't guarantee items the rest of the year, but I would have thought they would have made more of an effort at Christmas.

Anyway I posted this as a warning really, if you have a Christmas delivery booked you might want to have a double check in your basket to make sure your items are all available.

In the end I had 16 items cancelled , stuff like lemonade xmas pud panadols ffs I mean really no headache tabs?

Dh has been tweeting them hell got snotty email reply from some guy at Tesco, now they are back tracking as dh tweeted his reply to the world.

I went in store yesterday and did another huge shop, on top of what was delivered yesterday afternoon.

Gits

MeanwhileHighAboveTheField · 23/12/2014 21:57

Same happened to me - logged back in to check and heaps of stuff including turkey unavailable.

I just logged out an ignored it - shop arrived today with everything important and only a couply of minor substitutions Xmas Smile

IloveJudgeJudy · 23/12/2014 21:59

Ridingthestorm You say you ordered the stuff two weeks ago, but you can still change your order up until midnight the day before delivery so you can imagine the thousands and thousands of people changing their orders up until that time. The stores cannot possibly put aside/change all those orders from the time the slots are booked until the delivery time.

Sarahbanshee I can't believe they didn't pick you a turkey! I know that there are certain "basic" Christmas things that the pickers are under strict instructions have to be substituted if the originally ordered item is not avaiable and turkey/meat joints are one of them.

I'm interested - until how long before delivery can you change your Ocado order? Does anyone know? thanks.

sarahbanshee · 23/12/2014 22:19

The plot thickens: another call from Tesco, the turkey will now arrive tomorrow. Scottish lady replaced by a Lahndahn geezer. I feel nervous.

Pipbin · 23/12/2014 22:20

Judy. I get my ocado delivery at 8pm and I can change my order up to 1am the night before. So I can edit my Friday 8pm order at 1am on Friday morning.

MrsBennington · 23/12/2014 22:33

Well 3 weeks ago Sainsbos were booked for 8-9 tonight - turned up an hour early (rang first - fine) with everything except a couple of spices and a pack of bacon. Lovely cheery delivery guy too.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 23/12/2014 22:33

My Ocado delivery is due at 11am tomorrow. I've been using them for years and have finally trusted them with a Christmas Eve delivery. I'm a tad worried.

IloveJudgeJudy · 23/12/2014 22:37

Pipbin Thanks for that. I think the Tesco delivery can be changed up until midnight the night before your delivery, ie midnight for your 7am delivery. I don't know about the others. I live near a very big Tesco warehouse and have never had any problems with delivery. I think they were 3 minutes late one time. I would always be wary about having essential Christmas stuff delivered in the week just before Christmas.

Frostyyspecs · 23/12/2014 22:44

Well I had mine, not impressed with the supermarket. All my meal planning for week was buggered. They also didn't send my puddings as they were available.

Was off out at the shops. I'll go early am next year to said supermarket.

youbethemummylion · 23/12/2014 22:49

A very stressed ASDA man has just delivered our shopping he was late but did call to let us know. Instead of Christmas Tree shaped crumpets I have round crumpets, instead or Christmas Tree shaped lollies I have football shaped lollies, my cauliflower was mouldy and I had no stuffing balls. I did however randomly receive 3 tubs of Pease Pudding I neither ordered or paid for. I'm at work tomorrow so poor DH will have to drag the kids to the shops for stuffing and cauliflower, at least he can have a ham and Pease Pudding sandwich when he gets back!

MegMogandOwlToo · 23/12/2014 22:54

When I went to add a couple of last minute bits to my order last night, loads of things were showing as unavailable.

Surprisingly pretty much everything arrived today, even the things that were showing unavailable last night.

Frostyyspecs · 23/12/2014 23:08

Mummy lion, I had the round crumpets I ordered, along with all bread products best before tomorrow. Bearing in mind it came at 7.30pm not impressed by asda.

They also sent bad substitutions for my meat. Not impressed and if it weren't for the fact they pay to feed us every week all loyalty would be list.

Gawjushun · 23/12/2014 23:31

Hurrah for Ocado. After my Asda disaster last year they were fantastic, and I ended up spending about the same amount anyway. A rather grumpy man showed up, unpacked the shopping in the hall for me, and was on his way with one reasonable substitution. My only gripe is that I can't tell product sizes from weights, as I've ended up with a too large turkey and a too small pudding.

Titsalinabumsquash · 24/12/2014 00:37

All arrived bar a few little bits (pigs in blanket crisps replaced with Christmas dinner flavour) I'm officially done spending money for the year now. Smile

LapsedPacifist · 24/12/2014 00:52

YANBU. Delivery booked weeks ago arrived today with no half-price Chateauneuf du Pape (aaaargh!) no luxury stuffing, no nuts etc etc. Had to wrassle my way through late night supermarket hell this evening. No cranberry sauce either. Rats. Sad

got that right there, lapsed, with your last sentence

1st World Probs

I was just thinking this :) My parents are not into online shopping at all. 10 of us will be there for Christmas Day, 12 for Christmas Eve and they have been buying the non perishables for a while and went in at 6 am on Monday for the perishable items. Job done with no fuss or stress. Maybe they have the right idea!!

On the other hand, if a supermarket offers the service it should be reliable and make it clear up front whether the items are picked from a store and liable to be to of stock on picking day.

I hope no one has a food disaster this year.

MrsLindor · 24/12/2014 08:18

Ocado is due here between 9 and 10, my emailed receipt says they've substituted Extra Thick Jersey double cream for Extra Thick Waitrose Double Cream and Brie for Camembert, so no problem.

I unfortunately have to go into town anyway as MIL is poorly so picking up some brie isn't a problem, otherwise we'd have managed.

Solaia · 24/12/2014 08:44

Our Sainsburys order arrived yesterday, we had a few complaints about it but I have to say they were eventually resolved really well by a Sainsburys manager. We have ended up with over 2kg of stuffing though... Shock

We also had some food ordered from m and s (although that has to be collected in-store and isn't delivered) and that went smoothly.

Solaia · 24/12/2014 08:46

MrsLindor good luck with your Brie... We got a teeny weeny Brie delivered from sainsburys (it looked big on-screen) so decided to get more at m and s. There was one Brie left and let's just say it came close to fisticuffs Grin

sarahbanshee · 24/12/2014 09:06

The turkey is here! With a bottle of champagne to say sorry she was late.

SpottyTeacakes · 24/12/2014 09:15

Great news!

lurkerspeaks · 24/12/2014 09:15

I had ocado booked for last night.

No substitutions (never really had a sub since I started using them).

Delivery arrived 2 hours early (I'd just walked in the door from work, kitchen a disaster zone, fridge needing sorted etc. Yes, I'm abut slothful!) driver did say he would go away and come back later. Instead I took the shopping and got my delivery charge refunded.

Unpacking revealed that stuff wasn't as well packed as usual. I lost a couple of eggs and the boxes of chocs for gifts had got squashed to the point I can't gift them without it looking like I'm recycling something that has been lurking in a schoolbag!

I've already had a refund agreed so all in all I'm pretty happy.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 24/12/2014 09:24

Oh, I have substitutions and missing items Sad The subs are OK, the missing items - no quiche, no breakfast pastries, no pork pie and no cranberry topped pork pie. It's not the end of the world really, the question is whether I can be arsed to pay the £6 bus fare on top of the cost of the items to try and get them from somewhere else when I could buy wine with it

MrsLindor · 24/12/2014 10:38

I got a random free tin of jacobs cracker, they're in clearance on the website. I'd already ordered a cheaper box of crackers so we're a bit overwhelmed but I'm not complaining it's a nice tin.
