Several items on long ago booked leading Supermarket home delivery now unavailable!

I booked an Xmas delivery slot with one of the leading supermarkets in late November. I'd carefully planned the menu etc.

I've just logged back in today to add some more items to this delivery, when I noticed that several of the items I've asked for are listed as 'No longer available'. I wouldn't mind if it was the odd thing here or there but these Christmas staples, such as chestnuts, breadcrumbs etc. All but one of the ingredients I needed for my pudding are also now unavailable.

I'm now going to have to do an additional shop I didn't want to do, as well as totally reconsider my pudding.

I'm pretty hacked off to be honest as I had booked this specifically because it's hard for me to get to the shops at the best of times. I particularly wanted to avoid it at this time of year.

I thought the whole point of them releasing delivery slots early was so that you could ensure you got a delivery and all your hard to get items! I appreciate they can't guarantee items the rest of the year, but I would have thought they would have made more of an effort at Christmas.

Anyway I posted this as a warning really, if you have a Christmas delivery booked you might want to have a double check in your basket to make sure your items are all available.

As a mother of 2 children with ADHD I think online shopping is worth every penny. They hardly ever substitute things ime and as I do 2 orders per week then the occasional short use by date really doesn't affect me too much.

I wouldn't take them near a supermarket for a food shop on a normal day. The thought of going at Christmas with them makes me feel ill.

Pipbin · 23/12/2014 13:57

Viv. They don't take your money regardless of what they actually send.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/12/2014 13:59

Tesco yesterday and Asda today, had everything I ordered.I have done everything online, except for choosing a few extra cheeses from the shop round the corner, I have left the house for all of half an hour.

Noodledoodledoo · 23/12/2014 14:05

Viviennemary I have online shopped for the past 7 years with Ocado and before that Tesco (still use them sometimes). With Ocado and about 3 shops a month, rarely is anything out of stock, everything is within the date range I would normally collect from a store - the receipt is in date order which is great.

I am desperately trying to get my Grandma to let me do a shop each week for her online as she is unable to go to the shops and I live 120 miles away so can't take her but she is of the same attitude as you which is really frustrating!

Although we didn't do the big Xmas shop as we are eating out on Thursday (at my folks) I had my festive delivery yesterday and all was fine,

We use Morrison's - despite me hating my local store - and I cannot rate them highly enough. They are the poor person's Ocado Grin

ouryve · 23/12/2014 15:30

My Sainsburys order arrived just after 8, this morning, with everything but the Apple trellis pasties that DS1 wanted. He's already had 2 packets, this week, so can jolly well live without them!

ouryve · 23/12/2014 15:31

pastries - not pasties!

SpottyTeacakes · 23/12/2014 15:34

Mines due 6-7 will let you know what happens!

Titsalinabumsquash · 23/12/2014 16:00

Mines not until 10-11pm Confused

I can't tweak it anymore but it's not showing as being 'picked' and no final price but the potatoes/clementines/sprouts/carrots/mince pies/dips/cheese are all showing as unavailable again.

Goodness knows what I'll end up with but I have a horrible feeling I'll be doing a midnight Tesco run to avoid as many crowds as possible for the veg, unless they substitute it all for something sensible.

stupidgreatgrinonmyface · 23/12/2014 16:20

Our Tesco deliveries come from a huge distribution centre, not the lo al store. Apart from some teething problems when they switched from the store to the distribution centre, we rarely have items missing or substituted now. Mine arrived yesterday, one substitution and good dates in everything fresh. All good quality fruit and veg as well. Beats queuing for hour in store (I once queued for two hours to get shopping for an elderly neighbour who was too poorly to do her own shopping).
Good job Tesco.

JosephWasAChippyMinton · 23/12/2014 17:28

Waitrose order arrived, 40 minutes late but they did call ahead. 4 subs but nothing worth mentioning. Only gripe is that, of the two loaves, ones is dated Xmas Eve and the other is Xmas Day Angry and I can't fit them in the freezer. Is it worth calling them?

marne2 · 23/12/2014 17:31

I have just had a call from waitrose saying my delivery will be late, apparently they were running 2 hours behind but are catching up. I know it's christmas and they are probably really busy but I am hungry for Florentines Smile.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/12/2014 18:40

Just got my tesco delivery smack in the middle or time slot. Raspberries substituted for finest ones and no crackers (for cheese) available. No problem.

Ridingthestorm · 23/12/2014 18:49

I complained to tesco on Sunday evening about this very thing. I booked slot, ordered and paid two weeks beforehand and everything available. If it wasn't, it would say do and wouldn't let me choose the items. As far as I was concerned those items were bought there and then. To become unavailable is not acceptable. It is like someone stole from my basket!!! I wouldn't have known if I hadn't of added items to my basket. Good job i didn't have a late Xmas eve delivery!!!
I wanted to order Camembert share bread for a friend's starters. On Sunday 'not available'. Monday night at 9pm it said it was and also said it was on offer. Delivery guy said my order was picked at 3am so how come in those six hours it was suddenly not available????
Terrible service!

mortil2 · 23/12/2014 18:56

I had my Christmas delivery yesterday. They had substituted my order of 2 ducks with 2 basic chickens....WTF A few other stuff missing too. Had a right go at customer services

Titsalinabumsquash · 23/12/2014 19:13

I'm worried now! Everyone local has been sensible enough to get early deliveries today and everything has been there.

I think if I have to go in store, I'll get SIL to come with, she's fearsome (but very lovely) Grin

Pipbin · 23/12/2014 19:18

2 chickens for 2 ducks is not as bad as this guy who got an octopus instead of bread!
i100.independent.co.uk/article/that-awkward-moment-when-tesco-replaces-walnut-bread-with-octopus--l1ZcKg2uNl

sarahbanshee · 23/12/2014 20:49

Tesco have just dropped my order off - a couple of subs, no problem, a couple of things missing, no problem.

Putting it all away and realising the fridge space isn't as bad as I thought when I realised.

Where's the turkey?

Checked the receipt - definitely meant to be a turkey.

Just got off the phone to Tesco lady who was irate on my behalf and is calling the driver now. She was a poppet - lovely Scottish accent and telling me "oooh noooo, ye cannae manage without yer turkey". But we might have to!

I am surprisingly zen about this. We have fish fingers in the freezer. No one much likes the turkey, right?!?

KneeQuestion · 23/12/2014 20:49

Got mine from Tesco yesterday. On time, £3 for the delivery and only booked it friday.

One sub, which was panna cotta instead of bog standard creme caramel, didn't mind that at all!

I am happy.

marne2 · 23/12/2014 20:52

11 sub's from my waitrose order, 2 and a half hours late but they have given me a £10 voucher Grin.

cozietoesie · 23/12/2014 21:07

My Sainsbury's order arrived earlier this evening - a little early but they phoned to check so that's fine. Everything there, including stuff ordered late yesterday evening when I decided not to go into the main city early this morning, and a cheerful delivery driver.

I'm enjoying it while I can. I don't expect the current online arrangements/prices will last for very much longer because they're haemmorhaging money on it.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/12/2014 21:11

I always find the Scottish people in the tesco call centre really helpful Smile I hope you locate your turkey!

2cats2many · 23/12/2014 21:14

The only thing that was missing from my Tesco order tonight was the cheese balls so I feel like I got off lucky. However, I Am having a slight panic attack at the thought that we might not have enough sprouts so I'm going to get some more tomorrow. Just in case.

cozietoesie · 23/12/2014 21:17

Very wise. You need to have lots of extra sprouts to provide the cold ones to munch at 2 in the morning.

Smile
sarahbanshee · 23/12/2014 21:46

Scottish Tesco lady has called me back and promised me the turkey is on its way home to me. She wouldn't lie to me.
