Several items on long ago booked leading Supermarket home delivery now unavailable!

I booked an Xmas delivery slot with one of the leading supermarkets in late November. I'd carefully planned the menu etc.

I've just logged back in today to add some more items to this delivery, when I noticed that several of the items I've asked for are listed as 'No longer available'. I wouldn't mind if it was the odd thing here or there but these Christmas staples, such as chestnuts, breadcrumbs etc. All but one of the ingredients I needed for my pudding are also now unavailable.

I'm now going to have to do an additional shop I didn't want to do, as well as totally reconsider my pudding.

I'm pretty hacked off to be honest as I had booked this specifically because it's hard for me to get to the shops at the best of times. I particularly wanted to avoid it at this time of year.

I thought the whole point of them releasing delivery slots early was so that you could ensure you got a delivery and all your hard to get items! I appreciate they can't guarantee items the rest of the year, but I would have thought they would have made more of an effort at Christmas.

Anyway I posted this as a warning really, if you have a Christmas delivery booked you might want to have a double check in your basket to make sure your items are all available.

Well my Morrisons delivery was fine BUT I didn't get a complimentary christmas gingerbread person Angry

Noodledoodledoo · 23/12/2014 08:06

Happy Ocado customer here to. Delivery due this morning and only one sub of white grape juice with merlot grape juice hardly a biggie and only added the juices on Sunday. Everything else present and correct!

So pleased lets hope M&S order collected tonight is the same!

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 23/12/2014 08:15

My Tesco's order arrived better than fine... all items there, all with longish dates AND a bottle of Jack Daniels we didn't order - rang them up - they said to KEEP IT!!!

Theenduringmoment · 23/12/2014 08:21

Morrisons' delivery service is run by Ocado, so (touch wood) should also be relatively substitution free because it's not at the mercy of in-store crowds stripping the shelf.

Ocado are doing my delivery this evening, but I've got the pudding and gammon already. Veg and turkey come from Abel and Cole, so should be fine.

FairyPenguin · 23/12/2014 08:26

My Ocado delivery is due this afternoon. Had my text confirmation and have no substitutions. Just need to collect our meat from butchers tomorrow and we're done. Smile

Potcallingkettle · 23/12/2014 08:56

Ocado here too. Waitrose essential frozen raspberries substituted for Waitrose raspberries. I wouldn't even have noticed had they not emailed and said at the door.

TheBuskersDog · 23/12/2014 09:19

I actually think you are being unreasonable, you book a shop and delivery that is picked a few hours earlier - you don't get to reserve stuff weeks earlier. I booked my delivery for tomorrow on 27th November by just putting 4 items through, I could have been adding stuff for almost a month do you really think someone would be putting stuff aside for me every time I add e.g a packet of biscuits.
You don't get priority over people who go to the shop themselves regarding available stock, your payment covers someone picking your shop and delivering it, not 'baggsying' the good stuff.

TheBuskersDog · 23/12/2014 09:28

Today not tomorrow, forgetting what day it is- I don't get a special delivery on Christmas Eve Xmas Smile

5ChildrenAndIt · 23/12/2014 09:34

I book a double Christmas delivery a day apart from different shops. Any subs from the first shop - I request from the second shop.

It helps that we don't like turkey - but I've never had two deliveries let me down on the same thing.

PicaK · 23/12/2014 09:36

Ocado every time. No substitution here either. But I did order the chestnuts and get them delivered weeks ago.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/12/2014 09:55

I've used Ocado for years and never had a problem.

This year I've got 2 substitutes, both very sensible and not an issue at all.

My turkey is coming from Booths which I haven't used before so we shall see.....if it doesn't arrive there will be a last minute dash to waitrose tomorrow. We were seduced by the stunning catalogue!

windchimes8 · 23/12/2014 10:05

Can I just give a big well-done to Tesco. My order arrived this morning and everything was there and OK, including veg, turkey and bread. 10/10 for Tesco!

JuniperTisane · 23/12/2014 10:08

I just had my Tesco delivery a few minutes ago. For the last week several items have been showing as unavailable if I just view the basket. If I go in to amend the basket and then view it showed No more items can be added to the order.

This morning EVERYTHING arrived bar the Yule log which was substituted for a better one.

Just because it shows not available now doesn't necessarily mean you won't get it.

YouTheCat · 23/12/2014 10:11

Well, I've been to Sainsbury's and done my own shopping with no fuss, no bother and I got everything I wanted. It took no longer than my usual weekly shop. It was busy but not in a crazy way.

NotYouNaanBread · 23/12/2014 10:15

I got my Ocado order yesterday and it was fine except there were no aubergines, but you know - hardly a Christmas staple.

Good to know that Aldi has chestnuts though - I wonder what I could use them in? I like chestnuts...

NotYouNaanBread · 23/12/2014 10:18

TheBuskersDog - I completely disagree. The whole point of booking your shop online earlier is so that supermarkets can do their own buying accurately. If you book and pay for a £25 turkey in November, they bloody well better deliver it. They can't just mosey out on to the shop floor the day of your shop and go "Oops! Oh well."

But this is a problem that the non-Ocado supermarkets have, I suppose - there is that risk. At least Ocado has full control and sight of their inventory, and if they order 10,000 turkeys they can allocate them to 10,000 people exactly and not risk going out of stock (ideally).

uggmum · 23/12/2014 10:23

I went to Sainsburys last night and it was really quiet and well stocked. Didn't even queue for a till.

I went to M&S this morning. I was in there for 6 am. Again it was quiet and no queue at the till. I'm now knackered after getting up at 5am!

Titsalinabumsquash · 23/12/2014 10:27

I had to pop into Tesco this morning for some calpol, it was nowhere near as busy as previous years.
Waitrose however had a car park que tail back for miles and miles, I'll assume the more wealthier residents are happy to wait for their shopping Wink

cece · 23/12/2014 10:32

I have had my Tesco delivery this morning. All arrived except one thing. They substituted peanuts with cashews so I am happy. Also all the fridge items have good dates on them.

HamPortCourt · 23/12/2014 12:01

No stuffing balls!!Still I have paxo so can make them.

A couple of other subs that were OK, and a couple of odd things not available that I really think they could have found a substitution for, but on the whole, far far better than having to brave the shops this time of year.

Oh, and they gave me a much bigger gammon than I had asked for, and I wrote "NOT BIGGER PLEASE" in the subs bit so they are refunding me the £3 difference Xmas Smile

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/12/2014 12:23

Our Booths shopping arrived, beautfully packaged and all there. Turkey, lovely cheeses and some variations on large pork pies. I so wish I lived up north and could get to a storeXmas Envy

fairgame · 23/12/2014 13:01

I went into m&s this morning at 8.15 to pick up my click and collect turkey and it was rammed. If it carried on like that all morning then the shelves are probably bare by now.
The whole click and collect was a bit mad as well. They didn't have the orders ready in bags, they were picking them as people arrived. I only had 2 things on my order but other people had loads so it was taking a while to get served.

Pipbin · 23/12/2014 13:20

NaanBread. As I understand it the turkeys are preordered but everything else comes from the shop floor the same as a regular customer.
Someone said above that large stores in big cities have warehouse that they pick from but most are picked from the shop floor.

popcornpaws · 23/12/2014 13:24

My Sainsbury order arrived this morning, got everything i ordered except frosty fancies, they sent french fancies instead, the bastards!

Viviennemary · 23/12/2014 13:32

I hardly ever do food shopping on line. It would be convenient but it's too unreliable. Things out of stock, things near their sell by date things sent in error. No thanks. That doesn't help you. If they take somebody's money they should supply the goods.
