Owl The emergency and medical profession is vital. Picking up a bargain at Next is not.

The ones where I live are open Xmas day

Why should it bother me?

No everyone celebrates christmas. Some people have jobs that involve having to work Christmas Day and they might want something easy as a quick fix.

Blimey lighten up

McDonald's is actually open until 11pm on Hogmany-l know for a fact as DD is working (reluctantly) until 11.30pm for the close down clean. No party for her this year Sad

Next isn't McDonald's though! If McDonald's wants to serve food then I don't see it as any different from the local pub doing it (as they open and serve too, always have done)

I think I'm a bit of a fence sitter as I agree a bit about boxing day sales. I don't feel good is the sane though.

McDonald's doesn't bother me either. For many years it was the ONLY place I could take my children for a meal as my daughter has severe lds and autism. We went without any judgement from staff or anyone and I know for others it's an accepting place too. You really shouldn't underestimate how magnificent that is to some people

I fully expect a McDonald's advertising contract now Hmm

Completely agree that there are some services which need to be open on Christmas Day - McDonalds is not one of them though. I wouldn't want to see retail outlets open on the 25th - I could imagine that the companies would make it compulsory for people to work and that would spoil Christmas for many. If you can't live without a Big Mac for one day a year then you need to seriously rethink your diet.

but then are they not likely to take time of for celebrations that they want to celebrate, swings and roundabouts

Yes, having wasted two days of annual leave on days off they may not have wanted.

It's not really about people needing shops to be open over Christmas so they can buy things.I just want to step outside over Christmas without feeling that everywhere's closed, everyone else is behind closed doors with their families, and without feeling that I'm completely socially isolated.

I don't think Mc Donalds needs to be open on Christmas day. It all just seems to be work work work all the time. And to compare working in the essential services to working in retail is stupid. Yes, we need them but I'm sure we could all manage without a Mc Donalds or something from Next or M&S for two days.

Why are you not objecting to other restaurants and pubs being open on Christmas day?

Report
FreudiansSlipper · 20/12/2014 18:36

but there are other ways to do that sooty

all shops are closed in france on sundays, few cafes are open people walking about just enjoying being out

usualsuspect333 · 20/12/2014 18:38

No one needs to eat out at all on Christmas day,but seems to be ok if it's a fancy Christmas dinner and not a Big Mac.

FreudiansSlipper · 20/12/2014 18:45

would it not be nice to keep something traditional

people go out for a special meal on Christmas day it is likely to be a roast or if not something that is a little different

having macdonalds open is just treating the day as any other day which it is not

It's not compulsory to eat a roast dinner on Christmas day.

usualsuspect333 · 20/12/2014 18:52

And people have to work in those places too. Why aren't you up in arms about them?

Report
ilovesooty · 20/12/2014 18:54

Yes, I'm sure traditional's lovely - if you have people around you to enjoy those traditions with.

ilovesooty · 20/12/2014 18:56

And usual is right. Either it's acceptable to have people working in food premises on Christmas Day or it isn't.

I'd happily eat a Big Mac for my Christmas dinner. In fact if my local one is open I might grab a breakfast on the way to my DDs.

I could start a tradition.

FreudiansSlipper · 20/12/2014 19:02

we have addressed that not everyone is spending Christmas with family or friends

but i can not see how macdonalds being open solves this issue Hmm

Report
SirChenjin · 20/12/2014 19:03

If people are forced to work in McDonalds and other retail outlets which haven't been open up until that point then fewer people will be able to enjoy their traditional Christmases - all because people can't do without a burger. Sod that.

It's ok to eat burgers on Christmas day.

I expect the turkeys will be pleased Grin

Eat a burger - make your own and don't expect someone else to give up their Christmas to serve you bit of beef in a roll.
