To ask how much weight you usually put on over Christmas?

helloimarielle · 19/12/2014 16:26

Eurgh I've gained 5lbs.

I have three more eating out meals before Christmas day and our boxing day is like a second Christmas (two families)

I'm so going to gain at least half a stone aren't I? Time to bring out the elasticated jeans Wink

Please tell me I'm not the only one?

Yes birds, I always say the same about my amazing talent at holding onto weight!

Thought my eyes were going to roll right out of my head at some of these replies

FestiveChopinLizt · 19/12/2014 18:25

We eat more simply during lent (not religious) but just because it makes a more enjoyable contrast when we switch to the foods that are more partyish. Also it offsets the cost of Christmas food.

TheFairyCaravan · 19/12/2014 18:31

I won't put on any, not because I don't want to though.

Cheese and overeating makes my IBS play up. Alcohol and chocolate gives me migraines! I'll be the one in the corner drinking fruit tea and eating satsumas! Xmas Hmm

PIVOT · 19/12/2014 18:32

4lbs probably. A few days off walking to work, going for a run and all the goodies. I can see why it's easy gained in the run up with works dos, mince pies and tubs of chocolate about. I can restrain myself but when it's in front of me....no. I lose it fairly quickly when normal service resumes.

Mominatrix · 19/12/2014 18:36

None. No secret formula, I just balance out big meals with very light ones naturally.

helloimarielle · 19/12/2014 18:40

How have you gained weight already though over a normal month? It isn't Christmas yet?

I have lots of friends so like to catch up over Christmas which means eating out. Fuddles at work, and clients buying me food/wine as a thank you. Two weekend getaways so more eating out.

I'm currently at 8stone 2lbs, I eat really well and train hard but I like this month to relax. It's not a normal month for me.

why is this in AIBU?

katienana · 19/12/2014 18:43

usually 7lbs but this year I've been on slimming world and lost 9lbs since mid nov. I think normally I would already be putting weight on so hopefully it will be much less this year. I want to enjoy nice wine and cheese so there will be some gain! feel quite relaxed though knowing I can easily lose in January x

CassieBearRawr · 19/12/2014 18:45

Unless everyone here weighs themselves frequently then some of the people who've said no weight gain will actually gain a couple of pounds, they just won't notice it.

I tend to gain around 3-7lbs and it's off by the end of the month.

aintnothinbutagstring · 19/12/2014 18:49

Typical MN! Of course nobody puts on weight OP! If anything they lose weight over Xmas, tis the MN way.

dun1urkin · 19/12/2014 18:52

Probably about half a stone, but it'll be gone by the end of January.

Combination of lots of stuffing my face and less exercise than usual.

PS just so I'm not feeling entirely left out of the 'nones', I have lost and kept off 5 stone smug Wink

MaryWestmacott · 19/12/2014 18:52

I'm hoping no more than 2kgs, so far I've managed to maintain normal weight, but as the schools have broken up, I'm going to get a lot less exercise over the next couple of weeks and will eat and drink more so by new year I'll have gone up a bit.

So long as it's gone by 1st February I dont mind.

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2014 18:53

It has nothing to do with MN and everything to do with the fact everyone is different.

As this thread shows, some people gain and some don't.

Look around you in real life, the same thing applies.

Sallystyle · 19/12/2014 18:55

Putting on a few weights due to carbs etc is probably very very common but it usually goes after a few days, it is mostly bloat.

I have IBS, I can't over eat by a great deal or I will be in pain. I get full up quickly.

I also make sure to not indulge too much before or after because I lost 5 stone a few years ago and could easily go back there so I have to make sure I don't get into the habit of over-eating again. I get full easily now but if I spend more than a few days of eating more my appetite adjusts.

I don't drink and I don't go to any Xmas social events before the day.

XiCi · 19/12/2014 18:55

I think at 8 st 2 lbs it's hardly worth you getting fixated about a couple of meals out. Just enjoy yourself. Why are you so worried about this?

Sallystyle · 19/12/2014 18:56

few pounds not weights

AwfulBeryl · 19/12/2014 18:57

It's because they eat the magical MN turkey aint it feeds a village for the whole of December and actually makes you lose weight.

Sallystyle · 19/12/2014 19:03

Oh dear.. if we don't put on weight we must be lying and smug.

How silly to think that people differ and some don't gain weight and others do.

Those who say they gain weight are being truthful, but if we don't gain weight we must by lying!

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 19/12/2014 19:06

I will hold my hand up, I will gain, prob quite a bit as well. I'm similar weight to you OP 8stone 4, I'm expecting to be around 9stone by new year but it'll come off again once I'm back to dashing about doing nursery runs and eating less chocolate! It's fine, I really don't care. The average woman's weight will fluctuate by a stone over her menstual cycle so I'm really not worried about a few pounds going on via chocolate and baileys. I like to actually enjoy Xmas, not hand wring about "overindulging". Fuck that, life's too short!

Evabeaversprotege · 19/12/2014 19:15

I follow the sw plan & hope to have just a small gain if any.

Like a pp I plan to attend class over the Christmas period to keep myself in check.

I've maintained for past two weeks & had work dos & parties so fingers crossed for not too big of a gain.

AdoraBell · 19/12/2014 19:16

None now. Since moving away from parents I don't really eat any differently at Christmas. Decided that I was overindulging because it was expected rather than because I wanted to. Once that lightbulb came on I just bought a normal amount off food and continued doing that.

So other than Christmas Day I eat normally. Much to the annoyance of various people who complain about all the cake/mince pies they bought that go to waste but we emigrated so it doesn't happen now . Not my fault. I also got into the habit of balancing my meals so I don't eat a huge breakfast and lunch if I'm having dinner out.

I am helped somewhat by where I live, yesterday it was 37C. Very easy to not over eat in the heat if summer.

helloimarielle · 19/12/2014 19:24

Lol typical MN. I'm not worried about it at all. I don't think I expressed any worry.

I'm off to make myself a hot chocolate and just so you don't think I'm quivering with worry I'll add extra cream and marshmallows Grin

meglet · 19/12/2014 19:33

I never put on weight over Xmas.

I might have a couple of glasses of wine all Xmas, hardly eat meat, although I'll pig out on chocs and cheese.

I'm one of those wierdos you seen out running on Xmas day Grin. Lots of walks too.

Primadonnagirl · 19/12/2014 19:34

I just bloody knew everyone was going to pile in and say " none" or actually they lose weight. Well that's great but most people put on a bit even without massively pigging out..so if you don't did you really need to share that?! It's made people like me who put on weight v easily , despite doing plenty of exercise feel a bit bad now.

DreamingOfAFullNightsSleep · 19/12/2014 19:44

I can believe perfectly well that some people gain and some people don't.

What I'm envious of is those who happily gain hen lose it in January with no problem. I don't have a weight problem, I'm 8st 7 at the minute so bigger than you OP but I find is so hard to readjust and lose weight again. I increase my appetite and am always picking at things after Christmas . A couple of times its taken getting a tummy bug to get back to my preferred weight which is around 8st 6, 8st 7. This year should be easier as I'm a SAHM now so no chocolates at work but ill children and bad weather and no chances to go for a run mean I think it'll be a bad year anyway! I will try and get over the over eating habit but it's hard!
