To ask how much weight you usually put on over Christmas?

helloimarielle · 19/12/2014 16:26

Eurgh I've gained 5lbs.

I have three more eating out meals before Christmas day and our boxing day is like a second Christmas (two families)

I'm so going to gain at least half a stone aren't I? Time to bring out the elasticated jeans Wink

Please tell me I'm not the only one?

RedTinsel · 19/12/2014 17:19

Last year i didn't put any on but I'd lost 5lbs in the run up and was desperate to not put it back on.
This year I'm at my target weight so I won't mind a couple of pounds.

I will definitely indulge on Christmas Day and Boxing Day though. Chocolates, cheese, crisps, nuts......

PumpkinPie2013 · 19/12/2014 17:21

I don't usually gain any but then I don't have a sweet tooth so don't eat chocolates / biscuits and I don't like mince pies.

Also, we tend to go on a few walks over the holidays (we have 2 weeks off ) which will help Smile

Birdsgottafly · 19/12/2014 17:26

If you are a social drinker and have to go on nights/meals out, combined with a tendancy to gain weight easily, you're going to put on weight.

No idea...seems weird to me that you can't balance the books over a week or two tbh

Just go for some walks and skip a meal here and there or eat fruit for brekkie or lunch for a week
you'll be fine

LaurieFairyCake · 19/12/2014 17:31

About 5 pounds over 2 weeks, mostly water weight and lose it again within a couple of weeks. Lots of cheese/wine.

Christmas Day food not fattening, very healthy.

OwlinaTree · 19/12/2014 17:31

Well I expect I will op. I've lost 2 stone on weight watchers after having a baby in match, and have just got to target! I'm now on holiday so with that and Xmas I'm sure I'll gain! I'm not stressing as I'll just go back on ww when I return from holiday.

If i was at home I would eat normally until Xmas eve, but to be honest all the socialising and boozing would still catch up with me!

Have a great Christmas Op!

TheMuppetsSingChristmas · 19/12/2014 17:34

Gosh you lot are all very worthy and disciplined Wink I generally put on 7-10lbs. And thoroughly enjoy it too! Usually loose it all by end January though.

Fairylea · 19/12/2014 17:35

I don't ever weigh myself so I have absolutely no idea. If I suddenly can't fit in my clothes then I make an effort to move about more and eat less but I don't own scales and can't be worrying about a few lbs.

fatlazymummy · 19/12/2014 17:36

I don't usually gain much weight over christmas. I try not to eat too much. I don't feel the need to have a bigger dinner than usual just because it's December 25th. I don't enjoy overeating or being too full.
In any case ,I've already put weight on. I seem to have ballooned a bit , I'm putting the blame on this being my 'year of menopause. I need to sort it though, so I really don't want to put anymore on.

helloimarielle · 19/12/2014 17:36

None. Why do you expect to put on weight? One day should not make a difference

Hmm

Well I think everyone else understood I meant the festive season.

youllshootyoureyeout · 19/12/2014 17:38

I don't usually put on much, as I only really over indulge on Christmas day. I always feel far too guilty to stuff myself stupid. Especially as I am already overweight and I have read quite a few posts on here recently saying how a size 16 is very unhealthy (I'm not unhealthy by the way), it shows how judgmental people are and sadly, I do worry what people think of me.

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2014 17:43

It's not about being worthy and disciplined for me

I've just never been an over eater.

If you look at your fist, that's roughly the size of your stomach.

Mine just feels horrible and uncomfortable if I start packing too much food into it.

Plus, binge eating isn't good for me.

FestiveChopinLizt · 19/12/2014 17:45

I don't enjoy over eating, it just upsets my stomach, especially rich food. I am a runner, so I want to stay fit and healthy. If I drink a lot or eat sugary or processed stuff I feel tired and lethargic. I do love Christmas food, though, especially stuffing, red cabbage, turkey, sprouts etc, but none of that is bad for you.

So I don't put weight on at Christmas.

AwfulBeryl · 19/12/2014 17:48

I am the same Fairylea, I go in to holiday mode over the Christmas period, I like to pick on cake, biscuits and other bits. I don't usually do that because I am busy at work, with the dc and do every day life shit.
Same as when I'm on holiday, I am quite happy to drink more beer eat more ice cream etc.
I always walk a lot anyway so going for a brisk walk is pretty normal for me.
I certainly don't worry about it or feel guilty and like I have to balance things out, I just chill out and make the most of a nice relaxing time.

newtonupontheheath · 19/12/2014 17:49

Who are these people that don't gain weight over Christmas?!

OP I'll probably gain the same as you

CupidStuntSurvivor · 19/12/2014 17:50

Last year I lost 8lbs over Christmas while 6months pregnant Shock. I'd gone off lots of the foods I'd normally eat at that time of year, couldn't eat much due to baby's position and of course, no alcohol.

This year, motherhood, not dieting, has so far caused me to lose 2 stone off my pre-pregnancy weight (I was and still am overweight) so I'm going to eat whatever I fancy. If I maintain, I'll be very happy. If I gain less than 5lbs, I'll deal with it.

whois · 19/12/2014 17:51

A little but not sure how much. Way way way more eating out with friends and drinking in the run up to Christmas. Less exercise as no commute to work and my team sport had a break.

Easy comes off in January when I go back to normal levels of exercise and food.

This year might be a bit more work tho since I've just been in a weeks lovely holiday and eaten three amazing massive meals a day... Uh oh.

Birdsgottafly · 19/12/2014 18:00

I don't eat any more than usual, being Vegan.

But the alcohol and not always being able to do the usual walks with the dog, because of the weather, means I put on weight.

Those that don't put on weight easily, wouldn't of survived when we had natural selection, dictating our fate.

So I congratulate myself on being able to survive in any time period or country, thanks to my body's enthusiastic/efficient fat storing.

It could be snowing until March, so plenty of time to lose it, putting on half a stone wouldn't prevent me pulling (not that I want to), or having a good time, effect my long term health, so I'll enjoy the rare chance to be tipsy.

XiCi · 19/12/2014 18:00

I'm losing weight this Christmas. But then I'm low carbing so all the foods everyone is quoting as causing weight gain - nuts, pate, cheese, cream, red wine etc - I can have in abundance and still lose weight so happy days

exWifebeginsat40 · 19/12/2014 18:03

I have a small ryvita (dry) and a funsize miky way on Christmas Eve and then fast through til new year. I don't see why people need to EAT over the holidays. Ugh.

(bollocks to that. bring on the cheese and the pate - i'll worry about it in January)

bigbluestars · 19/12/2014 18:04

I don't tend to gain anything. I don't like to over eat, and will keep exercising through the festive period.

Micksy · 19/12/2014 18:08

I will gain nothing but only because I eat whole boxes of chocolates and pigs wrapped in other pigs all year round.

LoisHatesChristmas · 19/12/2014 18:13

3-5 lbs usually. I'm astounded at the amount of posters saying they don't!

FloozeyLoozey · 19/12/2014 18:16

I've lost 4stone this year on slimming world so I'm hoping for a maintain or small gain over Xmas. I'll still be going to group over the Xmas period which will help me keep on track. In previous years I've just given up and spent the whole of December scoffing but I've lost so far this month.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/12/2014 18:19

How have you gained weight already though over a normal month? It isn't Christmas yet?

I've lost 6lbs this month without trying, been so busy with everything.

I do eat big meals over Christmas, and mince pies, cake etc and have alcohol most days over the festive period, but we never have loads of chocolate/twiglets/pringles etc around.

Probably will put on 2-3lbs max that will go again by the 2nd week in January.
