To ask husband to change headlight bulb?!

Backstory - DH now has my "old" car and I have a newer one. About 3 weeks ago I saw him pull up at home with a headlight out. I pointed it out to him and he said he would get it sorted that week. He didn't. I asked him why not he said he hadn't had chance to get a new bulb. I've now bought him a new bulb. He still hasn't replaced it. I've just asked him would he replace it today and he literally screamed at me "alright! Alright! I've said I will so I will".

AIBU to ask him to change the bulb? It is illegal after all.

Is he BU for shouting?!

I realise this is massively dull and I'm sure I'm going to be told to worry about real issues but it's really shocked me that he's got so angry and loud over that...

I suppose I should take my own advice. Every year I do my wife's tax return, because I know she won't. When I ask her for her P60 and a few other other few bits of paper needed, I get shouted and sworn at. For asking her to spend 30 seconds locating a few bits of paper so I can spend my time saving her hundreds of pounds in fines. Next year I must remember to tell her she's on her own.

Yes, Theo there's always at least two ways to look at things, many many more on MN! Grin

take it to Halfords today. It IS a real issue, there could be an accident.

modern cars are badly designed and it can be difficult to change bulbs. So getting it done is a cost of motoring.

ClartyYakker · 14/12/2014 10:37

£3 at our Halfords when I went earlier this year. Sounds like different Halfords are charging different amounts! Are you sure the £10 didn't include the price of the bulb too?

Follyfoot · 14/12/2014 10:38

I only paid £5 last week at Halfords shhh

CatCushion · 14/12/2014 10:57

Apparently, the trick is to move the wheels round (away from the side of the dead light) and then it's easy to get to the back of the bulb, take off the stopper, replace bulb, put stopper back. Maybe put a sheet of cardboard down to kneel on if you don't possess a boiler suit!

CatCushion · 14/12/2014 10:58

But can understand you not wanting to do it when 6 months pregnant, OP!

I'll second that headlight bulbs often aren't easy to change; in modern cars, everything is frequently really crowded under the bonnet, and sometimes you have to dismantle the whole headlight unit to get at them; sometimes special tools needed. And I've had Halfords baffled by some bulbs.

I suspect he shouted because you were nagging him. He'll probably take Sven longer to do it now. He's an adult let him sort it.

dirkdiggler1 · 14/12/2014 21:56

I wouldn't let a Halfords monkey anywhere near my car!

Tobyjugg · 14/12/2014 22:19

Anything to do with car electrics is a total pig and that includes changing a bulb. If it were mine, you'd probably still be reminding me in January. Swop cars and get Halfords to do it.
