To be shocked at this treatment of a DS and DD (news story)

I don't believe in making judgements over people's parenting decisions but I am wide mouthed Shock at what would possess someone to

A) pretend to be Santa for anything other than nice reasons
b) use Santa as a punishment weapon against a naughty child
C) make them so upset that they cry and then ...
D) film them and post onto social media. So everyone one in the world can see images of their distressed child.

Actually made me nearly burst into tears (OK so I do cry at everything from John Lewis ads to poetry).

here is the story, and OK it is reported in the Daily Mail, but even if there is a only shred of truth in it, then isn't that the cruelest thing to do to a child at this time of year. And I reckon it could be storing up massive trust issues for the future, when they know they were lied to.

I approve of the idea of encourAging dc to behave

I am intrigued at the idea that what she did was "encouraging" her DCs.

More like goad them with a faked Santa letter, then film their reaction (which she admitted was a surprise - she thought her DS would just shrug it off).

I wonder why she kept her camera rolling through that ordeal, other than maybe to self-justify the result.

In fairness, Zen, I do empathise with you having 4 DCs to keep in check in the lead up to Christmas, and your creative use of technology made me Grin

I'd love one of those ( naturally well behaved DCs). Can you get them on-line?

I don't understand why people think it's ok to tell children that Santa only comes if they are 'good'.

You are telling them that children who don't get presents are 'bad', so what are they supposed to think of their friends/class mates/ neighbours etc who don't get presents because their family can't afford it?

How do you explain about all the children in the world who don't have enough to eat, never mind get presents?

Or the radio appeals to donate presents at christmas? Or the baskets for donated presents in the supermarket?

Don't your children ask you about it, and if those children are 'bad'?

If you post a video of your children on Youtube or open Facebook can anyone use and publish those images?

youtube vids are fair game i think
