Would you agree to a stripper?

I work in an office with a great team, aged 25-55. Some of them are very young, energetic and trendy; I'm not. But generally we all get on well and support one another. We go out 3-4 times a year.

In Jan we had plans to go out for a nice meal to celebrate a birthday, then some people were planning to go clubbing afterwards. Fine. I had no desire to go clubbing (old fart), so would have dipped out at that point, along with others.

Apparently the plans have now changed and we are going to someone's house for a "nice take-away" and a stripper is going to be organised for the birthday girl.

I am really, really uncomfortable with this (old fart). I don't want to be there, but I also don't want to support it in any way. I wouldn't like it if my dh went to such a party and I really disapprove of men or women being 'forced' to work in this way for the entertainment of others.

If I decline the invite now and give reasons, I will obviously be branded even more of an old fart and a killjoy, and they'll claim it's just a bit of fun, but I just hate the thought of it on so many levels.

So, AIBU?

I'd be fine with it.
I've known a few male strippers most aren't forced. They just tend to be gym nuts that love showing off their bodies.

No, YANBU - this would be my idea of hell as opposed to entertainment.

If you can't face telling them in advance that you'd rather eat your own toenail clippings than watch some oiled bloke wave his knob about then call off with a stomach bug on the night.

Is it a work outing, or just a group of people, some or all from work? If the former, not all appropriate.

I would rather spend an evening trimming Peter Stringfellow's arsecrack hairs with my teeth than watch a stripper.

YANBU and I bet you're not the only one who feels that way. I saw a stripper when I was 20 and I absolutely hated it.

No, and I think it is weird for a work outing. I am really close with my team and they are younger than me (I'm 35!) but this wouldn't be ok.

No! There's a world of difference between a meal out with optional clubbing, and a takeaway with added stripper in someone's home.

It's really not suitable for a work outing, it's not something I'd want to be part of as a non-work evening either, but to organise it as a work night out is just wrong.

Eww, that's pretty naff. A stripper at home? I mean, it's weird on hen nights, but at least you're in a big nightclub venue so you can easily escape. What if his oiled butt touches her couch?

You could always go along for something to eat, have a couple of glasses of wine, and leave before the poor gay student shows up.

Yuck. Seedy and disgusting. The whole concept of paying somebody to take their clothes off makes me feel very uncomfortable.

Sounds grim. Especially if the original plan was a perfectly acceptable night out with colleagues followed by optional clubbing.

I think I'd rather be an old fart who stayed home. Apart from anything else, all that oiled knob waving would be as indigestible as I suspect the "nice takeaway" will be.

I can think of nothing worse - and I would say I'm usually pretty liberal as to what constitutes a good night out.

Like previous poster though, I also have concerns about he sofa - surely all that baby oil would drip on her soft furnishings? I'd be paranoid about him not touching anything all evening Grin
