Tomo night I'm going to an event with a friend. We have planned it since February and the tickets were £100 each so I haven't made any other arrangemts for nights out for Christmas. Tomorrow is it for me we said when we booked it we would go have a couple cocktails and then on to event. I went bought a lovely party dress etc. then about two weeks ago friend starts dropping hints that it's her husbands Christmas dinner on same day. I didn't take the bait just acknowledge dr he comment. Then few dayslatershe says it starts at 2 so he's gonna go early and be home for 6. She has been dropping snips like this for a couple weeks until yesterday she said oh I'm having difficulty getting a babysitter (hers on is a bit of a handful so she always has difficulty getting a sitter. Usually I do it) now she reckons she is gonna drive and pick me up at 8-7:30. Fine drive if u like. But the event starts at 8 and I live at least half an hour away and there is terrible parking there! She's just ruining it before we begin! AIBU to feel she's sucking the fun out of it????

FunkyBoldRibena · 13/12/2014 10:31

Not sure what you have done so far but I'd just take my sister and say 'I'm leaving as agreed at x o'clock. I have someone else raring to go so don't worry if you can't make it.'

rollonthesummer · 13/12/2014 10:44

Has she paid you?

ssd · 13/12/2014 15:47

ssd · 13/12/2014 15:47

well op?

Rhymerocket · 13/12/2014 17:19

Hi. Sorry been mega busy. Well it all kicked off yesterday. I rang her because I didn't want to do it by text. I just said I felt she maybewas having trouble fitting it in and maybe she would rather notgo. She started then about her husband having to work so wouldn't be going to his work do after all. And she was concerned about parking so she would pick me up at 5! So I said no need to leave so early 6 would be fine. So she went into a rant then about needing to find a space which was easy to drive outoff because when we left we would be picking her sister up from her do and bringing her home from us. I was fine about that until she said her sister wanted collected at 11:30!!! Shock

No way I got really posses off then and said no wee oils not be leaving early. I told her she had essentially ruined the whole night for me and I would be going with a bad taste in my mouth because she has been pissing me about. I said my sister would buy her ticket and come with me instead. She hung up and never called back. I'm going to put cash through her door tonight when I'm going out! Fecking ridiculous. Don't think I will be seeing her again.

What?! Sounds like she was making it up as she went along! Glad you went without her though, hope it was a good night in the end.

KarenHillavoidJimmyswarehouse · 13/12/2014 17:33

OP you've done nothing wrong and her going would've spoilt the night - all this fucking about with lifts and parking is just bizarre.

MatildaTheRedNosedReinCat · 13/12/2014 17:33

PrettySnowyPictures · 13/12/2014 17:39

Is it a concert or something? Sounds like she's messing about tbh, it would really piss me off if it had been planned months in advance.

LumpenproletariatAndProud · 13/12/2014 17:42

She sounds a proper arse hole. Fuck that.

FunkyBoldRibena · 13/12/2014 17:43

DamselNotInHerDress · 13/12/2014 17:47

Well played. You've ditched the flake and will have an awesome night with your sister - cocktails and all :)
Have a great evening.
I'm a bit jealous as I've got a night it tonight and I've offered to be the driver - I'm having a bit of a sulk about no cocktails now!

skillsandtea · 13/12/2014 18:28

Wow! Well done OP. Some friend.. You're well rid. Enjoy your night with your sis.

Seriouslyffs · 13/12/2014 18:39

Hope you're having a fun time!!

Sprink · 13/12/2014 19:22

She sounds like someone with the "disease to please," as Oprah would call it.

You, her husband, her sister. But not herself. Who knows what she wanted? (Probably the full evening out with a mate, you, OP, but we may never know.)

I hope you're having a great night out ( you were entirely justified in this instance to insist on following the February plan) and I hope your friend learns to say no instead of trying to make everyone else happy.
