To think Take That look bloody silly

Doing a skippy little dance routine in their 40s, in tight white suits!

And the fact the just keep going on and on in dwindling numbers.

Sorry, I know everyone loves them but I've never been a fan and now it's getting laughable.

So what are performers in their forties "permitted" to do? Stand still in wafty kaftans and sing? Or maybe sit on a stool, microphone in hand, swaying their heads slightly?

My, that sounds fun.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 08:57

I will have a think.....

HellKitty · 13/12/2014 09:02

All my favourite 'performers' are older than their 40s. Morrissey kicks arse and Rammstein's Til has taken a year out after his fiftieth birthday. But he doesn't sit on a stool, he runs around with flamethrowers \m/ \m/

I think it's that Take That are now dad dancing.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 09:05

YY I think it's the suits and that particular weird dad dancing that's a bit Hmm. AFAIK they haven't done that before (but not a huge follower of TT).

It's got everyone talking though.

Celticlass2 · 13/12/2014 09:40

All of the artists I listen to are at least in their 40's, some much older than that. Take that are shit and always have been imo
They do look really desperate now though, because when you have little talent and it's all about the 'show' you can kind if get away with that in you 20's, when you reach your 40,s it's beyond sad.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 09:45

I did think it was widely thought that GB was the only one in TT with any talent. How far would they have got without him?

Sallystyle · 13/12/2014 10:11

I love a lot of musicians who are way over 40.

Yes, dad dancing! That is what they are doing.

I don't think anyone singing should sit still, just not the cringe dance moves they do with matching white suits that makes them look stupid and comes across as they have forgot they are not that young boy band anymore. It's Gary Barlow with backing singers really. He is better off on his own.

giraffesCantFlyWithReindeer · 13/12/2014 10:17

the only thing I hated about take that was the was Robbie wormed his way back in once they got successful on their own.Angry

TheChandler · 13/12/2014 10:28

Its always been Gary Barlow with backing singers though.

I'm not a fan, I'm just anti-ageism and trotting out staid ageist statements without thinking. Its place was in a world when people generally didn't live beyond their fifties. Its 2014. Advances in health care and longevity mean the retire from active life at 20 idea means you spend 3/4 of your life in the shadows. All sorts of artists get it - I've read some awful abusive stuff about Kylie for instance.

I also think, unless you've got a good record as a successful choreographer or model or make up artist, etc., I think globally successful stars are probably better following the advice that has got them there!

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 10:29

If they had worn nice suits and not done weird dancing they would have been ok.

Celticlass2 · 13/12/2014 10:34

Chandler Can you quit with the ageist crap! You have been told repeatedly that many of us actually prefer older artists. Stop trying to derail the thread with this nonsense.

CPtart · 13/12/2014 10:51

I was their biggest fan in the 90's, but agree it is probably time to call it a day.
My friend used to work behind the bar at a social club in Runcorn while Gary "entertained" on his keyboard. Says he was a wanker even back then.

Sallystyle · 13/12/2014 13:58

FFS with the agesim.

I like U2, hardly young.

Love Pinkfloyd- hardly young

I could go on..

I even like Take That's music well enough, but I am sorry, I think there does become an age where wearing matching suits and doing those dance moves do look silly.

If that makes me agesit so be it I guess.

Celticlass2 · 13/12/2014 14:07

U2' The best band live ever have got to be U2i seen them three times,- once in the states They were Magic there. They lifted the roof..
My teen DD is really in to music, and is listening to lots of old U2 at the moment. I had forgotten just how bloody fantastic they Were. Smile

Sallystyle · 13/12/2014 14:09

WOW, another U2 fan on MN's. I never thought I would see it :)

You are right, seeing them live is just amazing. Just got tickets to see them again in October :)

I have tried to get my teens into them, but no luck.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 14:11

My favourite U2 song is 'The Sweetest Thing'. I like the video. Grin

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/12/2014 14:18

Yanbu.

There comes a time when you need to let it go...

Celticlass2 · 13/12/2014 14:19

Sparkling It's a great song, and a cute video. U2Theedge I'm jealous. Have a fab time.
Didn't get tickets for October, but hoping to see them in Dublin.
I've got lots of other music stuff lined up though. Smile

KarenHillavoidJimmyswarehouse · 13/12/2014 14:29

YANBU it's embarrassing now.

Take That were always the vehicle for Gary - no way a bland, boring arse would've stood out enough to be successful.

I'm probably on my own with this but I feel a bit sorry for One Direction. They're worked like dogs - and yes I know it's hardly down a coal mine stuff but still. IIRC some of 1D can play instruments. And they're all decent singers. I also know they refuse point blank to do dance routines. I sound like a 1D fangirl - I'm pretty indifferent to them but think their detractors are often on autopilot.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 14:32

Celtic apart from the bit where Boyzone appear. Sad Grin Wasn't it an apology for Bono's wife for forgetting her birthday or something?

Sallystyle · 13/12/2014 14:43

He didn't forget, he was in the studio all day, so I read.

I was shocked at how grown up the hairy one in 1D has got! I would have loved him when I was younger.

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 18:17

Which one is the hairy one U2? there's Harry hairstyles and the other ones AFAIK. Grin

Sallystyle · 13/12/2014 18:47

I just googled and it is Harry Grin

Sparklingbrook · 13/12/2014 18:50

I think I would have liked Harry as a teen too. I would have had Dougie McBusted posters as well. Blush

TheChandler · 13/12/2014 22:56

You have been told repeatedly

While white suits and singing are obviously on the barred list, can I just say a little prayer never to let me turn into one of those women who comes out with lines like the above.
