To lose it with the umpteenth caller regarding PPI/the technical department etc

Just had my third unsolicited call today to my mobile asking about my PPI claim. Earlier it was "the technical department" about my computer TELLING me, not ASKING me to check stuff on my PC. Fed up to the back teeth with these calls. Am registered with the TPS but it has absolutely no effect. Cheeky buggers too. Argumentative even. Told the last one to "f@@k off" and he STILL.wouldn't shut up!

Any ideas how to stop these pests?

I head my boss this morning telling the caller that they should be ashamed of themself and did their family know their job was trying to scam people? They put the phone down on him.

It was "Microsoft".

We actually ARE a technical department who help people fix their computers over the phone - but they ring us, of course, it simply does not work the other way round!

What kind of phone do you have? I just got a call blocker app and it's brilliant!

I used to rant about PPI - I got so fed up I told one of them to go ahead. RBS have just sent me a cheque for 17K as a result!

The insurance - no fault accident one are really getting on my nerves though - yes my car was involved in an accident, but it was parked at the time - leave me alone!

I keep getting calls telling me I have been in an accident in the last 2 years. Maybe I should put a claim in fit amnesia because I really don't recall it

The RNIB man was the worst, I told him I gave to 2 charities of my choice and wouldn't be taking on any more but he just went on and on reading his 'script' I just kept saying No,No,No

The pension lady got all huffy when I said I had no pension but had another property as my pension. She actually sighed down the phone at me, then cut me off!

The lifestyle bloke I just told to go away, or words to that effect!

And the PPI man I told I had sorted my own thanks but still he went on and on. I left him listening to my radio while I wrapped presents

I despair, we are ex directory and TPS but seems to make no difference,
Have also recently had Microsoft, to which I informed I was calling the Police

LoxleyBarrett but you needn't have used the PPI claim company to do it! It took me no more than ten minutes to fill out the Natwest PPI form and they sent me my 2k very quickly. How much did you have to pay the company out of that 17k for their ten minutes work?

I'd forgotten about the car accident / loan calls as well!

I lost it down the phone to my 18th unsolicited call in one day on my landline whilst I was off sick recently.

My phone provider admitted to using recycled numbers and now they've swapped it to a shiny new one I've not had another call.

But omg I am ashamed at how awful I was to poor Trevor from India

A good one for 'I'm calling about your accident' is 'which one?'

Those recorded messages about solar panels are doing my head in at the moment!

"I'm phoning about the accident you had"

"Oh yes, sorry but it was fatal"

Oh I get them all the sodding time. 99% of the time I'm calm but very firm and say thank you at the end. The other 1% I go around the houses a bit before verbal annihilation pointing out why that won't work/doesn't interest me.

One PPI-ish one was explaining that some banks had wrongly refused PPi claims and their company could reclaim. She was extremely persistent, even when I told her I'd successfully claimed one on my own and the one I'd had refused, I could also revisit on my own

I realise that girlwhowearsglasses - however I've had several bank accounts, loans etc in the past and really didn't think I was entitled to anything. I said yes to shut them up. Yes they took 4K, but I have 17K in the bank that I would never have claimed - so I'm happy thanks!

I'm just starting to get these on my mobile now too (used to just be my landline). I guess I must have put my mobile no. on a couple of forms or something.
One even came up as a number with a local code, otherwise I wouldn't have answered.

I started getting them on my mobile, PPI and Accident ones.
I also started swearing at them. Must be a coincidence.

The calls are automated though, so I don't even get the satisfaction of telling someone to fuck off.

Oh these are so annoying. I can't suggest anything for landline calls if you've already registered for TPS but, if you're getting calls and texts on your mobile, I can't recommend 'Call Blocker' app highly enough. You get the call/SMS, go into the app, find it on call log/message log and add it to 'block'. It's highly satisfying to actually be able to do something.

I used to respond to those 'send STOP to opt out', it never worked, all it ever did was let them know it was a 'live' phone they'd contacted.

The trouble is that I get calls from unknown / overseas / hidden / you name it
that are real
so I have to let them all through
but then have fun till they take me off their list

TalkinPeace, that is a real problem, isn't it? They're completely unregulated here. Mostly I get UK ones, which is a blessing as I can block them.

I'm glad you're stoical about them, saves your blood pressure! Sympathies though.

I've asked the accident people to pop down to Boots and get me a pack of plasters , that gets rid of them!

Or I have put them onto DS, he said last time the nice lady said she had to go, he was very disappointed as he was telling her about Batman and Transformers!

They rarely ring back after that...

As soon as they start the script, I just say - thank you for calling, goodbye - and put the phone down. I see no reason to sit and listen!

We have a barking toy dog. arf arf ...arf arf. That usually shuts them up.

Depending on my mood I tell them it's none of your business now fuck orf.

I get them on my mobile all the time, all hours of the day or night. I don't answer as they come up "unknown number", but sometimes I do by accident and invariably its silence then a click. However when there is someone there, they are inevitably totally uninformed. I'm a solicitor, and I distinctly remember advising clients not to take out idiotic ppi policies or at least examine their terms and conditions properly, so when they phone during working hours, or my work lunch hour, I tend to tell them this and advise them of my hourly rate and terms of business should they wish proper legal advice.

I think they must be running out of business, because the number (and nuisance factor) of the calls appears to be increasing.

I'm on the look out for a police whistle.
After trying to be pleasant over the years I now just tell them to F*@CK off.
I've had them phone back asking to speak to Mrs F*@CK off and teh other day they phoned back repeatedly for an hour.
I now tell them that I am going to hunt them down wherever in the world they are and kill them.
Can you tell that I absolutely hate canvas calls.
I want to answer the phone to someone I want to speak to.

Changing phone number worked a treat for us - from 3-4 unwanted calls a day to none!
