To ask what the tantrums are over in your home?

So far this week there is a theme...

His potato was too hot and ruining his cheese (melting it)

Then the next one was because I broke his potato (I cut it up)

Then today... He didn't like his banana anymore as a bit fell off it...

All have caused full blown kicking legs in the air tantrums Blush

Because I woke her up (very gently). She's 11, but we still had the kicking and the screaming.

At the moment it's "life is so unfair", which at 3.5 years old applies to just about every third thing that occurs in the day, from the wind blowing to where the dog is sat in the room.

Well today she had a tantrum because she wanted her shadow to go on top of mine and then was furious when her shadow kept disappearing.

Today's tantrums, brought to you by my angst ridden DS of 3:

  • I forgot to leave a dry Shredded Wheat on the mat next to his bowl of Shredded Wheat (the mini ones obviously!)
  • I took the lid off the toothpaste and he wanted to do it (despite the fact that he was moaning about having his teeth cleaned anyway)
  • I dared to pick up my own Kindle when clearly it had been his intention to pass it to me
  • I took the banana out of 'the packet' (skin)
  • I made him sit down and finish his dinner when he'd got up to open the front door when Daddy arrived home from work

Hmm All Childline-worthy, I think you'll agree.

My 6 year old had a tantrum that she had to go to rainbows (she loves it) and couldn't go to move club at school with her sister to watch a film she's watched constantly! My 4 year old had a tantrum because she can't go to rainbows and didn't want to go to movie club!

We just had another... Because I won't let him open his uncles Xmas present on 1st December...

And told him that a badger was a badger... Not a bear! (Rupert bear advent calendar with sticker of a badger and a Rupert bear, he said bears, I said bear and badger... Tears!)

All this just on the way to bed...

Today?

Because I wouldn't let him tear up important documents in work (had called in on day off to do a small thing).

Because I made him wear a coat in the lashing rain (and escalated because I had out thought him by bringing two coats, so when he refused the blue one because he wanted the gruffalo one, I produced the Gruffalo one from my bag. Epic, Richter scale, lying on the floor whooping like a siren, tantrum resulted due to my unreasonable deviousness).

Because I changed his bum when he had been wanting to 'keep the poo safe'.

Because I refused to let him put Clive and Dave (his astronaut thingmys from his space rocket) drive their moon buggy through his lasagne.

He has just turned two and is getting molars.Sad

banana imperfections. opening the banana a millimetre too much and anything else that takes his fancy to have a tantrum about.

This for me is conclusive proof than tantrums just ARE, there is nothing you can do to prevent them. My DS has never had a tantrum. Sometimes a friend will ask how this was achieved. No fucking clue. You can be the best parent in the world and they'll still fling themselves to the floor while the world and it's mother is watching.

DH once had a tantrum because he couldn't see his own face. Beauty that he is. (He was 3)

I used to take a wobbler if I wasn't allowed to watch ALL the water drain out of the bath and see the wee whirlpool it made.

That the toe seam on her tights isn't in the right place.

That I don't make Christmas special because we don't have outside lights like Blackpool illuminations.

That the carrots are too big in her dinner.

That she wanted to open the door.

I could go on and on. She's 6 going on 16.

My 8 month old had a pretty righteous melt down earlier because I told her no about trying to eat the (fake) Christmas tree light bulbs and plopped her down away from it.

But she's miserable and cranky anyway, because we're cracking down on her needing to sleep in her crib at night, not our arms or baby swing. So she hasn't been sleeping too well while she adjusts. She did take an ok nap in her crib today though, so maybe that's progress?
