Parking fine

Sorry if this is the wrong place I'm not sure where to post.
My Dp received a fine whilst using our car which is registered to me.
The parking ticket is from a privately owned company. He aims you do not need to pay this company they are rip off merchants etc.
We have received letters for payments of £100 and now I'm being threatened with a CCJ. I'm so torn the info on the Internet seems contradictory. Some say yes you should pay and others say no they are bullies. The name of the company is SIP.
Anyone have experience of them? What would you do? £100 is a lot of money...

I got a fine this year while shopping in Matalan. I contacted them with a receipt to prove I was shopping there and they had the charge cancelled.

Also be wary of any summons your might be sent, I have read about them looking very authentic but not actually having a court stamp on them. I've heard Martin Lewis say they are modern day Cowboys and you should ignore charges as they are not fines and can't be enforced. Council fines are very different.

Thanks for this thread, very timely. I have just sent an appeal using the template on

Martin Lewis does NOT say you should ignore them now. That is old advice. The law changed and yes they can be enforced now.

Ok, ignore me thenGrin

Don't ignore it! I ignored one 2 years ago on hubby's advice and the whole thing only got resolved last month. I did get the court summons, but managed to sort it out via the court mediation service rather than actually having to go to court. It cost me £115 in the end which was a lot more than the original charge. They can and do pursue people now. I'd say your best bet is to either pay it or appeal to POPLA.
