He is 6, very immature for his age, having trouble with his learning and is being left behind a little at school as the other boys are playing football, playing computer games, lego and so on.

Looked at his list and there's lots of cuddly toys on there. There's other stuff too like a robot dinosaur and play doh etc. DH says not to get the cuddly toys for his own sake. I have agreed but now feeling awful. He really wants them and I keep thinking of the penguin John Lewis advert. Should I get them for him?

How about a cuddly toy that can be heated up for nighttime warmth? So still a cuddly but with a "reason".

Georgethesecond · 29/11/2014 22:20

My nearly sixteen year old still has rabbit and ted on his bed. He barely notices them anymore, but they are there. And he puts them back in position every time he changes his bedding.

Nothing wrong with Animal and Kermit, I am a 37 year old mum and have a postgrad degree, would I be too old for them. I love em!

TotallySociallyInept · 29/11/2014 22:22

Glad to hear it OP Smile

Nearlyall the kids on year 6 (age 10/11) residentials take a cuddley toy. Nobody gets teased. It's a comfort and ok, especially at age 6.

MorelliOrRanger · 29/11/2014 22:24

Don't know if you've got the Muppets film but its fab, we watched it the other day. Anyway get him animal and Kermit.

My 7 yo dd has loads of rabbit teddies, she asks for one every Christmas. She doesn't play with them all the time.

Teddies imo help kids use their imagination in this age of antisocial technology

VerityWaves · 29/11/2014 22:26

Aw he's only 6bless him
Get him the cuddlies ! Grin

3boys3dogshelp · 29/11/2014 22:29

My ds has just been to a build a bear partyfor his friend's 7th birthday party (boy). He isn't particularly into cuddly toys any more but he still enjoyed the party and gave the toy to his little brother when he came home. It has never crossed his mind to tease the other little boy for still liking teddies. And his friend plays rugby and football but ds doesn't!

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 29/11/2014 22:32

I'm 27 and would rather like a cuddly Kermit and Animal for Christmas Grin

This really is a non-issue!

Starlightbright1 · 29/11/2014 22:33

When my DS was 6 a lot of his friends were having bat caves. My DS has never really been interested in superhero's . I bought him a cheap Batman DVD which he chucked on one side and left it wrapped. About 4 months later he came home from school and asked if we could watch Batman DVD as they were playing Batman at school and he didn't know who the characters were. He has never watched it again but it kept him in the game.

My point is he has a nice group of friends and he is his own boy. He does get into things that his friends are but he is growing up nicely.

People are busy rushing their kids to grow up..Lay the foundations securely and he will fly when he is ready

Aeroflotgirl · 29/11/2014 22:35

Exactly starlight, don't hurry to make him grow up before his time. It will come soon enough and you will wish he was little again Sad

monkeymamma · 29/11/2014 22:36

Oh gosh, I still loved soft toys at 10-11; if it reassures you I'm now 32 and have hardly any :-) why is your dh so against the cuddlies? Honestly? I actually feel quite sad for your ds being forced away from comforting toys and pushed towards appropriately 'manly' interests. He's six not sixteen!

trixymalixy · 29/11/2014 22:37

DS is nearly 8 and is cuddling his beloved bear in bed right now.

Get him what he wants and then also one "in" toy.

ilovepowerhoop · 29/11/2014 22:40

My ds is 8 and not into Lego and has a collection of Pokemon toys that he takes to bed with him. He has asked for more for Christmas and will get them.

ChippingInAutumnLover · 29/11/2014 22:43

I'm glad to see you have come around to the idea.

My nephew is 15 now, big strong, strapping lad who likes football and has a lovely girlfriend etc - at 13 he was still asking for soft toys (he collects the Disney stuff).

6 is nothing and I wouldn't hesitate to get him what he wants. He will. most categorically not be the only 6 year old boy asking for soft toys for Christmas.

Please reassure your DH it's perfectly normal and even if it wasn't, it's OK for your DS to be himself.

Starlightbright1 · 29/11/2014 22:44

Oh can I also add. I spent about £25 on a Kermit from build a bear.. He has no interest in it and complete waste of money. He even had a T shirt for it. Hmm

trixy my 7 year old son is too

SallyMcgally · 29/11/2014 22:49

DS2 is 11 in Jan and has his heart set on a dog from Build A Bear, and will get it.

RufusTheReindeer · 29/11/2014 22:50

My 11 year old still goes to bed every night with a soft toy dinosaur, it's called James Hmm. No idea why

Get him the toys, he is still only a baby

Dontwanttobeyourmonkeywench · 29/11/2014 22:52

Rahhh technically he won them out of the grabber but the amount of moneyI made him spend he spent he could have bought them Grin They are way out of DDs reach and nobody is allowed to play with them but me I may have sat them next to me while watching the movies Blush

Fabulous46 · 29/11/2014 22:52

Number 1 thing on his list is a cuddly Kermit the frog and Animal. This would be ok right?

Of course it's ok. My 26 year old still has has a Sooty toy that goes everywhere with her. He's her 'lucky' teddy. He managed to get her though her final exams this year for medicine. He must have done something right Grin.

RufusTheReindeer · 29/11/2014 22:52

My 15 still has floppy dog (fuck knows why it's called that)

Just don't tell anyone Confused

YouTheCat · 29/11/2014 22:56

Ds and dd are nearly 20.

Ds gets a cuddly elephant every year.

Dd gets a cuddly cat every year (Grumpy Cat this year).
