to not be surprised that 1/3 of young people are in poverty and they are the poorest people in society

Can't say I'm surprised at all. This isn't going to end well.

Just isn't right that they have the lowest income but are likely to have high outgoings.

I'd like to see a rebalance of the tax system to be much fairer (Ni), only give pensioner benefits to the poor pensioners with pension credit, change state pension age to life expectancy -5 years and stop the interference in the housing market so that it crashes to free market values. Anyone else agree?

I think its totally the other way round banana

I disagree with that, bananaramadramallama. Most of the young people I know are teenagers and their expectations (in terms of ever earning a decent wage or being able to afford their own place) are so low, it's heartbreaking.

However pointing the finger at another group, be it pensioners, immigrants or whoever we're encouraged to blame next week, is going to get us nowhere.

Expectations of young people and the reality for many does not tally. Super exploitation of young people by large organisations is rife. Many work place schemes and apprenticeship pay averages at about £3.50 ph. Zero hour contracts, minimum wage or less, no holiday pay or sick pay. No job security is the reality for many young people in areas where there is limited employment. There are areas of high unemployment and poverty in the UK.

A third of young unemployed people rarely leave the house www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-23315438 Many people will take the view that this behaviour is down to laziness, in fact it is depression, anxiety and in some cases leads to suicide.

A civilised society does not take from the poor to give the rich or de-regulate work rights for young people as is the current political agenda. I used to think the UK was a civilised society but that was a long time ago.
