My lovely sister has posted pictures of her house gorgeously decorated for Christmas. AIBU? I can't even begin to think of doing that until at least sometime in.....i don't know......December perhaps!!

We're putting ours up this weekend, we have done since my DD was born on Dec 1st 20 years ago. It's a tradition now, and I leave them up until 12th Night too Smile

onedayiwillmissthis · 29/11/2014 04:22

am presently in Alabama, USA... never mind Black Friday...it seems the popular thing to do is put up the Christmas lights on their houses...in fact some people must have dashed outside to decorate house as soon as Thanksgiving lunch was overGrin

Gullygirl · 29/11/2014 06:12

Mine goes up twelve days before Christmas and comes down on twelfth night.
November is madness, although very common here in my part of Australia. I know people who have had a tree up for over two weeks already.

MrsBigginsPieShop · 29/11/2014 06:26

Ours is going up tomorrow night once DS is in bed. My DB,a birthday is mid December and growing up we weren't allowed a tree until after then. I think I'm rebelling now!

MrsBigginsPieShop · 29/11/2014 06:27

DB's not DB,a!

Poolomoomon · 29/11/2014 06:34

I saw a couple of people had put theirs up last weekend, now that is too early! This weekend is the first acceptable time to put them up, advent sunday tomorrow which is the traditional Christian time to put them up anyway. We just always do ours on the 30th November so they're up for the majority of December. I'm annoyed by them come the 27th though and they usually come down the 28th/29th Grin.

vvviola · 29/11/2014 06:35

Ours is going up tomorrow over my strong objections. DH and DDs have overruled me as there is a Santa Parade tomorrow, so they figure it's about the right time.

Although, we leave on Christmas morning to spend time with MIL and only get back in time to pack up and move house, so we won't really get tired of it. So I'm moderating my Scrooge impression a little bit.

Bunbaker · 29/11/2014 07:17

I can't be doing with it now. I would get bored of it all by Christmas.

Unclearpath · 29/11/2014 07:24

Ours went up yesterday. Our dd loves it and so do I! They come down first week of Jan.
I know it's early but it makes our house feel even more cosy!

afreshstartplease · 29/11/2014 07:28

Mine goes up on 1st December going to have a good clean this wkend in preparation

CakeAndWineAreAFoodGroup · 29/11/2014 07:28

Ours will go up around 20th dec and come down by 6th jan.

I saw someone on Facebook had theirs up 2 weeks ago as their toddler insisted. Nice to know who is the one in charge there!

Do you know, I often used to get all incredulous about early decorating but this year we've had a really tough year and my sister has been really sick. People should do whatever they need or want to do, especially if it makes them happy or brings them joy.

iwanttogotothechaletschool · 29/11/2014 07:38

We have a family near us who put theirs up at the start of October. I will try and go another two weeks before putting up ours.

gamerchick · 29/11/2014 07:43

No it isn't.. If you want to put them up then put them up. Take no notice of the miserable buggers who think it should be last minute.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 29/11/2014 07:45

I always put them up on the 1st and down on the 31st. I love my decs and they exist for the whole of December. New years day we start fresh and clean.

bigbluestars · 29/11/2014 07:53

I feel it lessens the impact putting them up too early, I woudn't like to have them up for the whole of December like the shops do.
I feel all this puttinmg up decs early is quite retail led.
It didn't happen when I was a child, people waited until a week or two before christmas, nowadays they are following the lead of the supermarkets.

Ours will go up on the 14th Dec, Sunday - it's the first free day that we all have as a family together in the forseeable future- everyone is too busy anyway.

I also always get a real tree- a stonking 7ft Nordman Fir, I like the leaves still to be fresh for christmas and the pine fragrance still strong for christmas day.

If I put it up now it would be dry and crispy at christmas and I hate plastic trees.

CalamityGem · 29/11/2014 07:59

It's great reading all these messages and seeing how and why people do different things. My inner Scrooge has been calmed! Can't wait to visit and see her house (she always makes it look gorgeous at Christmas) but might just hold off for a week more. Off to the German market next weekend so might just give in then!

Decorations will go up about 12 days before (DH birthday on 12th). I think that is plenty early enough.
More importantly, the cake has been fed three times, and the sprouts have been on since September 25th. Can't bear them crunchy.

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 29/11/2014 08:03

Very early. I may well not put mine up at all this year. I suppose if you love christmas it's different but my tree just reminds me I'm meant to be happy but we're all miserable instead so I'd prefer not to put it up at all really.

ZombieJenna · 29/11/2014 08:23

Too early for me too. When I was at school DM & I put the decorations up in the afternoon of the last day of term. Now they go up when DP & I finish work for Xmas (24th this year). I wouldn't bother myself but DSD (14) looked like I'd slapped her in the face with a fresh halibut most upset when I suggested not putting any up at all.

bigbluestars · 29/11/2014 09:00

whowillsaveyoursoul- sorry that you are feeling so bad. Is life so bad that you can't find a little christmas cheer?

Even when OH lost his job and we became homeless then suffered a bereavement we still managed to find a little tree and make some christmas happen for the sake of our child. Do you have children?

Marmot75 · 29/11/2014 09:03

Too early for you it seems and me too. But I'd feel unreasonable to expect everyone else to do what I do.

Whowillsaveyoursoul · 29/11/2014 09:03

Only one child.
It's the enforced happiness that's the worst part.

Hoping you have a lovely christmas bigblue.

MorelliOrRanger · 29/11/2014 09:06

I'm not allowed to put ours up before the 1st dec as its dps birthday. We'll do it next weekend.

We saw 6 houses already decorated in the last week.
