To want a return of Spitting Image

I loved the way that it satirised politicians and current affairs and even more serious issues such as the IRA.

Growing up, it really helped to be able to deal with things in the news using humour Grin and I would love for my teens to be able to watch it again.

Oh yes!!! I loved spitting Image. This current crop of politicians are ripe for characature GrinGrin

seagull70 · 28/11/2014 21:59

I wonder if MNHQ would be portrayed? GrinGrin

Richard and Judy would be bloody fab, they'd pretty much provide their own material Grin

I'd LOVE to see a return of Spitting Image, I often look at some of the characters we have today and imagine them as spitting image puppets. Imagine what they could do with Farage, or Theresa May.

Agree that it helped me learn who was who in the 80s.

And yes, More Peas Dear was a catchphrase in our house!

We desperately need more satire in this country.

Not sure about Spitting Image though - it was of its time and it cost a fortune.

I'd love to see something akin to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart like they have in the US.

Catthiefkeith · 28/11/2014 22:09

I would love to see Spitting Image 'do' UKIP.

Wasn't Harry Enfield heavily involved with SI?

Let's all tweet him! (Better check my facts first though, just in case!)

TheDogsMissingBollock · 28/11/2014 22:10

Oh it would be fab! But heard one of its creators on R4 the other week say it will never be brought back : (

Topseyt · 28/11/2014 22:11

I often think that the time is perfect for bringing it back. There would be rich pickings from this bunch we have in power at the moment.

It was compulsory viewing back in my own student days. The world stopped on Sunday evenings when it was time for Spitting Image. Grin

lavenderhoney · 28/11/2014 22:14

I've wanted it back for years. Amazing show. I remember my dm and df crying with laughter at the Ronald Reagan puppet wielding a pointer, a blackboard with a drawing of an arse and elbow, and he couldn't get it right:) " arse! Elbow! NO!:)

Someone like Angus Deayton could host it.

I like private eye now, but it's not as good. Surely it wouldn't cost much to produce, ( in monetary terms, not career) hell, I'd do it:)

The point for me with puppets is that it's not pushing an individual - just views and opinions. No one cares who is behind it.

TheDogsMissingBollock · 28/11/2014 22:15

Am just imagining the Cameron, the Kate, the Katie Price, the millibands! Would be such fun. Agree satire a great way to view/tolerate/chastise those in power.

FrancesNiadova · 28/11/2014 22:17

Ooh yes please! Grin

I'll always remember the Spitting Image shown after Margaret Thatcher was returned to power.. "Every job you take, every heart you break, We'll be watching you....."

RudeBarbandCustard · 28/11/2014 23:16

So they've said it was too expensive?

More expensive than the shite they churn out these days like I'm a Celebrity, or X Factor?

They could do it if they wanted to.

Start a petition!!

lavenderhoney · 28/11/2014 23:47

Too expensive? What? With the tosh programmed now? Dumbing down the nation..

The money they would make in apps, iTunes, everything makes that laughable, frankly. Prince charles might fund it. He seems rather opinionated and has lots of money, plus doesn't care what anyone thinks. And doesn't need to. Perfect:)

CreepusExplodus · 29/11/2014 00:01

I LOVED Spitting Image! Especially the fly in the yellow wellies trampling on a cow pat ~ that's one of the scenes that sticks out in my mind.

scrappydappydoo · 29/11/2014 00:14

I'd love to see it return but can't help but feel it would be redundant as politicians seem to already be characters and everytime ukip open their gob its like a SI sketch.

seagull70 · 29/11/2014 06:28

A close friend worked on Spitting Image, building the sets.
They say that it wasn't too expensive to make.

I also vote for a return!

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 29/11/2014 07:41

They would have a field day with this current lot!

CerealMom · 29/11/2014 07:48

DH and I were talking about this the other day.

Spitting Image would give our current political crop personalities they don't actually have.

I imagine a smooth, chinless, light bouncing off his face Shiny Dave.
Animal conservationists constantly secretly filming Ed Miliband (panda watch).
Nick Clegg as a small lap dog being walked around Versailles Westminster.

Wouldn't have to do much for Kim-Jong Un.

Come on Fluck and Law - we need you.

Russell Brand as Jesus - genius Kim :-)

Celticlass2 · 29/11/2014 09:08

I've often thought this. I remember it very fondly. Smile
Can you imagne the material!
Farage, Theresa May, or as she's known in our house , the witch from Wizard of Oz. The Milliband brothers, nice but dim Boris, Cameon and all his chinless wonder mates in the cabinet.
They could even make the dreary Kate and Wills funny a la John Mayor and Norma.
Russel Brand as Jesus is truely inspired.
