Or is the very concept of this hotel distasteful?

Whilst indulging in a bit of holiday porn last night, i came across this...

Titanic hotel

I have put the Tripadvisor link on, as it is more neutral than a specific holiday company, but lots of British tour companies go there.

The whole place is modelled on the Titanic (even to the point of the ship's name on the hull).

Yes, it is a brilliant piece of architecture, but to me it is a very odd and disturbing concept - even the staff are dressed as crew members.

The reviews are very good.

Is it just me??

It looks nothing like the Titanic.

I'd say it was just a hotel.

There are ship's wheels and portholes in the decor etc. Whilst I accept it isn't exactly a replica, do you not think it a bit odd? It is clearly ship-looking externally.

Ships' wheels too

Just a hotel with the same name. I don't think it's disrespectful.

If the events on the Titanic can be turned into a Hollywood blockbuster for entertainment purposes, then I don't see why a hotel doing the same is much different...

Catsize · 28/11/2014 09:30

Andrew, I think you may be right. And you made me Smile.
Dojo, I agree, which is why I have never watched it.

It is a beautiful looking hotel. Definitely designed to look like a cruse ship and done well. But I think a different name would have been better. Titanic just brings to mind the sinking.

Definitely don't ask for ice in your drink...

HairyPotter · 28/11/2014 11:07

They have a sister hotel called the Concorde here

I think it's a distasteful - but I don't subscribe to the 'it happened years ago so we can forget that real people died' mentality. To me it is no dfifferent from having a 'Twin Towers' themed hotel.

I'll probably be accused of being 'professionally offended' though.
