To be annoyed grandparents just gave DD something from her santa list?

Visiting grandparents at the moment. They are spending christmas with us. DD (4) has had a small thing she has wanted for a little while and she put it in her letter to santa. Grandparents knew this. They just gave her said item.

Fecking sob story? I don't think so.

I'm just making the point that actually some grandparents don't give a shit about their grandchildren, I backed up that point by giving evidence. No ones going to have a little cry over it are they? No.

That its nice that grandparents make such a big effort.

You actually sound so unbelievably grumpy and joyless. I wish I could have seen your face when they gave her the present, bet that was hilarious.

crumblebumblebee · 27/11/2014 21:29

Hmm given your last post, I feel maybe YANBU. Also, no need to get all shirty that not everyone agrees with you, this is AIBU and well, ya asked!!

Only1scoop · 27/11/2014 21:29

How awful Op I do hope it doesn't spoil your entire Christmas....

Starlightbright1 · 27/11/2014 21:29

From your last post YANBU

cruisepool · 27/11/2014 21:31

rose not sure I applaud the massive effort of buying something as a random gift 4 week pre christmas something they knew had already been purchased and requested from santa.

I guess it would be a little annoying, it is something that you can double up on? So it won't matter if she has 2 of the same thing?

Make this a lesson for the future...don't tell them what she is asking for. It's the only way to prevent this happening.

Iristutu · 27/11/2014 21:33

TheY are spoiling her. You asked them not to. So they trumped you with her dream Santa item and people think that's ok.

Not over here op, I would be setting former boundaries. No gifts at all!

DoJo · 27/11/2014 21:34

OP - I think if you had mentioned the information in your subsequent posts that you might have had a more balanced response. Knowing that you had already bought it is a no-no, no matter how big the present IMO, but from your first post it just seemed like an indulgent treat. YANBU, but your OP didn't really convey the level of thoughtlessness involved.

differentnameforthis · 27/11/2014 21:35

Rose, yes it is nice they wanted to buy her a present, but why THAT present when they KNOW that the op has bought it for her daughter already?

There is nothing wrong with buying gifts, but why take away from the op the enjoyment she will get in seeing that she got her daughter what she really wanted?

This isn't about grandparents being allowed to buy stuff, or who has it harder etc..it's about the op's wishes (no more gift buying before Christmas) being ignored.

RoseCavallari · 27/11/2014 21:35

Untwist your knickers and stop getting so angry. I didn't agree with you so what? You asked for opinions and then jumped down my throat when I dared to disagree.

Its strange that you left out the part that it was already bought in your OP.

Iristutu · 27/11/2014 21:35

Firmer boundaries.

cruisepool · 27/11/2014 21:35

I realise I should have explained more fully in my op, sorry.

I didn't tell them what was on the list, they asked her and I later told them we had bought the things.

OP posts:
HiImBarryScott · 27/11/2014 21:36

All my DS3 wants this year is a penguin pillow pet - it's not expensive and it's not big, but it's what he wants from Santa. And I've bought him it from Santa. If my parents turned up with one tomorrow (knowing that it was on his list and I had already bought it) I'd be totally pissed off.

YANBU.

differentnameforthis · 27/11/2014 21:36

Rose, you are being unnecessarily rude to op!

Iristutu · 27/11/2014 21:38

For my children the biggest joy is the anticipation of waiting for 'that' toy.

If someone went and bough that toy. " just because it's a sunday" they would be spoilt monsters.

crumblebumblebee · 27/11/2014 21:40

No gifts at all??? Gosh, some people are miserable.

Iristutu · 27/11/2014 21:41

Etween now and Christmas...nothing miserable about that children are spoilt.

RoseCavallari · 27/11/2014 21:42

I don't think I am different. I gave an opinion when it wasn't revealed that it had already been bought,

And the OP got annoyed that I'd told a "fecking sob story ffs!"

Why is the op allowed to be rude but I'm not?

snice · 27/11/2014 21:46

I can see why you're cross OP and I would have been to. In a similar vein, many years ago my DD wanted 'a pig' for Christmas. We as a family all laughed about it and since it was all she wanted I found a lovely cuddly pig as her main present from Santa. Was rather annoyed on Christmas morning to find my SIL had bought an enormous Piglet toy for her that sort of spoilt the present from Santa-only Santa was supposed to have had the letter and known about the present IYSWIM

fuzzpig · 27/11/2014 21:47

Given the full story I think YANBU

RJnomore · 27/11/2014 21:50

YANBU in any way, shape or form.

SolitudeSometimesIs · 27/11/2014 21:55

Yanbu. I'd be really annoyed.

Have you asked them why they felt the need to give her that present given that they knew you had it?

Can you return the one you have for something else?

Mintyy · 27/11/2014 21:56

Stupid thread should be deleted due to massive drip feeding.

Yes you "perhaps should have mentioned" op, as you know perfectly well.

As it stands this thread is utterly mindless and goady.

textingdisaster · 27/11/2014 22:00

op what do they expect you to do with the item you already have? That's a weird thing for them to do. Can I ask what it is?

Anyway, YANBU.

fluffyraggies · 27/11/2014 22:00

YANBU

As an aside I must admit there is a trend, when a poster posts about a relative, that among the first answers there is always someone saying YABU and should be grateful because they had it worse.

On the Relationships board, posts about marital troubles are never answered with ''oh you ABU and should be grateful because ... i wish i had a husband to moan about, or my DH was worse, or is dead, or whatever!''

Hmm
