To think that if you have your tree up already, surely you'd be sick of the sight of it by christmas?

I have just seen on FB the first christmas tree picture of the year. It's the 26th Nov. A whole month until christmas.

Don't people feel sick of the sight of it by the time christmas rolls round? Does it not dilute the magic somewhat to have it up so early?

I did put paragraphs into that post but none have materialised Confused

caroldecker · 27/11/2014 00:10

Surely most people are working till at least the 22nd and then have a week or two off - better to have the tree up over your holidays?

Unexpected · 27/11/2014 00:26

Summerisle1 there is indeed an Easter tree! And I have one! Well, to be fair DH is "furrin" and was brought up on the continent where Easter trees are quite common. It's just some twisted willow twigs with small ornaments on. I use a wooden set of chicks, eggs, rabbits and the like which I bought when we lived in Germany. It's kind of a link to DH's heritage which is why I still do it but certainly don't think I would bother if it didn't mean something to us.

TurquoiseDress · 27/11/2014 00:46

I'm definitely of the opinion that tree & decorations should not be before December!

Once we're in the actual month of Christmas it's all fair game!

MagicMojito · 27/11/2014 00:51

We had our tree up about 10days ago Grin

Dd1 was sad that her birthday was over so we said we can start Xmas so we'd all be abit happier Grin

I love it. I'd be happy with it up all year long to be honest

Waltonswatcher · 27/11/2014 00:56

Bloody oddity that started a few years back . It's naff and its a naffness not confined to naff people;normal naff free friends are joining in the 'get it up now'naffness.
It seems now that for many christmas ends on the 27th . When I was younger it ended after new year.

sandgrown · 27/11/2014 00:59

I am with you Summer . Tree up Christmas Eve to 12th night but I am being badgered to put it up sooner!

MidnightDinosaur · 27/11/2014 03:41

YANBU

I don't have many people on FB but already there's 2 with photos up of their Christmas trees.

I usually love putting my Christmas tree up and it usually goes up on whatever Sunday is closest to the 12th December. This year will be the 14th I think.

Don't quite seem to get much joy from putting it up anymore though. It's a bit difficult getting used of putting a Christmas tree up in the middle of summer.

Bulbasaur · 27/11/2014 03:46

Set mine up tonight. DD is at the parents and DH was at work I didn't want to include him in how the living room would be set up. It was the most convenient time I could fine to get it out of the way.

I also have my Christmas shopping mostly done. :)

No, I will not get sick of it by Christmas. I didn't get to set it up last year because I was pregnant and not feeling up to decorating the house. I'm making up for lost time.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 27/11/2014 08:09

Our is tree is up and yes I will be sick of the sight of it but I love the build up to Christmas rather than the day itself now. It will be coming down the day after Boxing day x

HolgerDanske · 27/11/2014 08:16

I love the sight of the tree and I never get tired of the cosiness factor. I do get very tired of all the other clutter associated with Christmas.

In past years when my children were little I put the tree up on dec 1st. Last year I put it up one week into dec. This year I'm planning to put it up about two weeks before Christmas. Or not at all - not feeling it yet...

Annietheacrobat · 27/11/2014 08:20

I hate the ever increasingly extended Christmas. It seems to go on for over 2 months now. That's 1/6th of the year! We will probably put our tree up mid December.

skylark2 · 27/11/2014 08:20

I don't think there's any question that it does.

I think it's sad when people are so sick of their tree that it's down on Boxing Day.

I put a little artificial one up at the start of Advent, mostly as a convenient place to put presents as they're wrapped. We don't get the real one until a few days before Christmas (normally we go fetch it on the way back from school on the kids' last day) and it stays up until Twelth Night.

Thebodynowchillingsothere · 27/11/2014 08:26

Putting ours up this weekend and it's down New Year's Day. Can't have too much Christmas.

Loving the idea of a Christmas duvet.

Love different family traditions they are magical.

Mehitabel6 · 27/11/2014 08:28

I hate the fact that it now starts so early and then people are finished by Boxing Day! It spoils Christmas. I thought it was a sign of emotional maturity in children ( the marshmallow test) and yet many have parents who can't wait - they have to have instant gratification.

HolgerDanske · 27/11/2014 08:29

If I didn't work all day on Christmas Eve I would probably do it then.

Actually I think I'll put it up the Sunday before Christmas. That seems about right.

Mehitabel6 · 27/11/2014 08:29

I saw a tree up last Thursday!

FarOverTheRainbow · 27/11/2014 08:31

I love having the tree up and lights on at night, just makes the room feel so much more cozy.

HamishBamish · 27/11/2014 08:33

Ours go up the Saturday before. When I was growing up our tree never went up before Christmas eve.

I don't see the harm in putting it up early, but if it's a real tree then surely it would be dead by Christmas if it went up now?

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2014 08:34

I put our up as late as possible and it's back in the loft before New Year's Eve, sometimes as soon as Boxing Day.

Love getting the house back to normal. Grin

Sallystyle · 27/11/2014 08:35

Mine comes down the day after boxing day because I am sick of it by then already.

It usually goes up two weeks before xmas.

YANBU

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2014 08:37

I am terrible though because as soon as the DC have unwrapped their presents I want them all put away. I hate having stuff all round the living room all cluttered.
So I take the things up one at a time so it's not too obvious.

SauvignonBlanche · 27/11/2014 08:40

I agree OP, YANBU.

The people that post pictures of their tree in November and the sort that take it fown on Boxing Day.

I have a FB friend who posted several pics of her tree in November and one of herself taking it down on Boxing Day!

Mine doesn't go up until the weekend before Christmas and stays up until twelfth night.

AuntieStella · 27/11/2014 08:42

Ours goes up about a week before Christmas (after a family birthday) and comes down on Twelfth Night.

But it's Advent Sunday this Sunday, and It wouldn't criticise anyone for putting theirs up then, though a full 6 weeks to the end of Christmastide does seem like an awfully long time (probably too long for a real tree).

Mammanat222 · 27/11/2014 08:44

I love, love, love Crimbo (yes shot me now I call it Crimbo!!) but even I draw the line at tree's up in November.

If you have a real tree poor thing will be half dead by the time Christmas Day arrives?

I try to wait until at least 2nd weekend in December [it will go up 7th this year].

I do however have some decorations that I have round the house all year round Shock they are silver, sparkly hearts though and I have them hanging on a few photo's. They don't scream 'Xmas decoration' !!
