My Dh thinks that it is a disgusting example of racial inequality in America. But i think having read a lot of articles/news that the police officer was only protecting himself. Although it is unfortunate that someone so young died.

However Dh feels strongly it is disgusting racism. He called me blind and crazy (lighthearted). Aibu for thinking this.

Please explain how we know that this police officer is scum.

creighton are you just as outraged when a white person is shot and killed by a police officer? If not, why not?

fakenamefornow · 27/11/2014 12:18

Sorry I have only read the first couple of pages so this may have been answered.

He was shot 12 times?

Does a gun hold that many bullets?

Did the officer re-load or is the '12 shots' report not correct?

creighton · 27/11/2014 12:18

he is a racist liar, he used the usual stereotypical language that whites do about MB in that he wanted to give the impression that MB was a huge uncontrolled monster so he had to kill him. read the officer's testimony.

the officer killed a man who did not need 12 bullets put in him, the officer was out of control, but hey, he only killed a black man, so that's okay with all of you. I think that makes him scum.

you are glad that a black man is dead. it is always good to know what kind of people I am dealing with.

when are white people gunned down needlessly in the street, please give a couple of examples as I am curious to learn about these incidents.

okay girls?

Pangurban · 27/11/2014 12:19

I think the gun culture in America is a huge problem. Michael Brown certainly appears to have been a thug, from the footage in the shop where he was physically threatening to the shopkeeper from whom he had just stolen. He wasn't averse to frightening or intimidating someone. He didn't have a gun though. He did not cooperate with the police. Was he threatening to the officer, I don't know. I don't know if Darren Wilson could have disabled him in some way without killing him or if there was time. Can it really have been as simple as 'oh he's black, I can shoot him without repercussion'? It would be interesting to see a transcript of the trial.

It does seem bizarre to have 93% of the police force white in a mainly black region. Is that just the way appointments fell in that area, blind to colour? I wonder what the relative percentages of the police force in that state are? In a way you would hope the police force is absolutely blind to colour, so it is completely equal in it's treatment. In another way though, if there are sensitive issues or a lack of representation, maybe a more representative police force would be more suitable. I wonder whether there would have been a problem if Darren Wilson had been black? Or if Michael Brown was white?

The story of the boy with the toy gun who was shot is heartbreaking. The officer seemingly was not informed the caller said they didn't know if it was real or not and an orange indicator to show it was a toy had been removed from it. It was only recently that a school kid had been on a shooting spree in his school in the US. 92 school shootings in the US since Sandy Hook in December 2012. It does happen as guns are allowed to be part of the culture. Absolutely heartbreaking though. I don't know the right or wrong or if the officer could/should have make a different choice. I thought these armed police would be expert marksmen.

I think the riots bring other issues into them. And I would be very surprised if every single white person is arrested without being shot in the US.

They're investigating the Ferguson Police force now. I wonder if the report will be posted online?

fromparistoberlin73 · 27/11/2014 12:20

yabu

its just horrible what happens in the US to young black men and boys- for its toxic cultural cocktail with the main ingeedients being

gun culture
endemic racism, especially in the south of the US
a majpr rick/poor divide

and its getting worse -look at that 12 year old

creighton · 27/11/2014 12:20

they have guns that have 12 bullets in a magazine so that they can kill black monsters properly as one bullet is never enough

VivaLeBeaver · 27/11/2014 12:21

THe case where the police officer stopped the motorist, asked for his licence and then shot him is shocking. The officer has been fired and I believe is facing criminal charges.

Did he do it out of malice or fear? From the video I'd say fear, maybe I'm too naive. Either way he shouldn't be in uniform carrying a gun.

I do think if Americans didnt have the right to carry guns stuff like this wouldn't happen as much. Police wouldn't be so scared about being shot and wouldn't be so trigger happy. Who knows maybe they could in general be de-armed then? If the majority of the public don't have guns the police wouldn't need them. Sadly I think its unlikely to happen.

Territt16 · 27/11/2014 12:21

creighton, you are again talking out of your ass, trying to protect the scum MB just because his Black, all the evidence shows the police officer was telling the truth,

"According to several people involved with the investigation, blood spatter analysis indicated that Brown was heading toward the officer during their face-off, but Brown's movement rate could not be determined from the evidence. The location of shell casings and ballistics tests were also consistent with Wilson's account.[76]

Blood was found on Wilson's gun and inside the car, and tissue from Brown was found on the exterior of the driver's side of Wilson's vehicle, consistent with a struggle at that location. The blood on Wilson's gun indicated that Brown's hand had been very close to the weapon when it was fired, consistent with Wilson's testimony that there had been a struggle over the weapon"

VivaLeBeaver · 27/11/2014 12:22

Creighton, you're been silly now. It makes you sound hysterical and people stop listening.

Nicknacky · 27/11/2014 12:22

What racist language did he use??

You aren't making much sense. I did post earlier that 3 suspects were shot in America this month alone and I would imagine their loved ones believe their shootings to be unnecessary too.

Are you outraged on their behalf?

creighton · 27/11/2014 12:25

shootings in American schools are carried out by spoilt middle class white boys. don't conflate the murder of the 12 year old black boy with 16-20 year old white men.

pangurban, he had paid for his goods in the shop. the film was doctored.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/11/2014 12:25

Creighton.

Dillon Taylor was a white, unarmed man shot dead by police only a few months ago.

Care to comment girl?

Tinkerball · 27/11/2014 12:25

I couldn't care less if MB was black or white, I only stated you can't say that the Policeman is a racist liar because you don't know this.

Territt16 · 27/11/2014 12:27

MB wasnt a 12 year old black boy, was was 18 year old twat. his the one we are talking about!

VivaLeBeaver · 27/11/2014 12:27

and James Whitehead

Territt16 · 27/11/2014 12:31

Myron May, Jaylen Fryberg, Eric Dana Johnson Jr, Andre Banks.

Last 4 shootings in american schools where by black men, so creighton all american school shootings are by spoilt middle class white boys?

Territt16 · 27/11/2014 12:35

Creighton?

creighton · 27/11/2014 12:36

no, I am not talking out my ass I might however, be talking out my arse.

I am not hysterical, I am also not casual about the murder of black people the way you are.

do try to follow the thread, pangurban mentioned the 12 year old in relation to school shootings which are all carried out by white boys 16 and over. we are actually talking about both of them.

a rare unarmed white man killed by the police compare that to the full range of unarmed black people killed, casually, by the policy on a regular basis.

BackOnlyBriefly · 27/11/2014 12:36

creighton since I'm on both threads I can't help but notice that you defend racism on the other one when it's from someone who isn't white.

UncleT · 27/11/2014 12:37

Here's one example (the cop was black BTW).

wreg.com/2014/11/25/salt-lake-cop-cleared-in-shooting-of-unarmed-white-man/

Here's another (cop off duty, performing 'neighbourhood patrol' though).

www.myfoxdfw.com/story/26249861/unarmed-man-shot-killed-by-dallas-pd-charged-at-officer

Here's a third.

www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/11/gil-collar-shooting-video_n_1958480.html

That's about two minutes of Googling.

Again, this is not to say that killings of black people aren't disproportionately high in the US - but to say it doesn't happen to white people in similar circumstances is ridiculous and simply not true. The reasons for that are complex, and while there is clearly strong argument to say that there is inherent racism within the Police and indeed wider society there, the fact is that this does not equip us to look at one incident which we have no personal knowledge of and state as indisputable fact that there was no justification on the part of the officer. I'm not asserting that there was - but it's quite conceivable that there could have been.

Territt16 · 27/11/2014 12:38

Afain Creighton, you say school shootings are all carried out of by white boys 16 and over but I just named the last 4 USA school shootings, all by black people...?

creighton · 27/11/2014 12:39

gosh, aren't you all lucky to have one person you can focus all your hate on?

black hysteric, let's go for it.

the policeman had no reason to murder MB, that's all. He has no right to expect just to walk away from the crime, no wait, he is white, of course he can. and he would do it again if he felt like it.

www.nydailynews.com/sports/teenagers-allegedly-murder-college-baseball-player-boredom-article-1.1431445

I think that was quite needless, no? Or is it ok, because it was not a white cop?
