Aibu too not understand the reaction of the Ferguson Michael Brown in the USA

My Dh thinks that it is a disgusting example of racial inequality in America. But i think having read a lot of articles/news that the police officer was only protecting himself. Although it is unfortunate that someone so young died.

However Dh feels strongly it is disgusting racism. He called me blind and crazy (lighthearted). Aibu for thinking this.

And all this we forget tamir rice a 12year old boy who died for playing cow boy and Indians but they still sell these items to children and cops are respected for killing children no. That footage needs to be revealed other wise that another riot straight after this one. Plus the cop had to the boys race five times bet he surely wanted a race war knowing about this brown verdict. Angry

Moreisnnogedag · 26/11/2014 20:46

race drugs and law enforcement in the us

WannaBe · 26/11/2014 20:46

I think it just proves the point that black lives in America are disposable. There is plenty of evidence from the transcripts out there that prove he was unarmed, had done nothing wrong and yet people are choosing to believe rumour and hearsay from fox news and the internet at large.

It's a disgrace.

And while I don't approve of rioting what else do these people have left?

hmc · 26/11/2014 20:47

I'm with your husband op

Moreisnnogedag · 26/11/2014 20:49

and another

Idontseeanysontarans · 26/11/2014 20:49

Sammy I think the footage of Tamir Rice has been released.

Bulbasaur · 26/11/2014 20:53

Under US self defense laws, if I shot someone who broke into my home (which you are allowed to do here) and basically unloaded a clip into them, it would not be considered self defense. This was a trained police officer who is expected to know better.

Micheal Brown deserved to be arrested, not murdered.

If he was white he would still be alive. You better believe he would be.

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2014 20:57

I find it all very upsetting how people are quick to say he was a thug shoplifter etc he deserves it.. Katie Hopkins tweet has left me raging!!
Left on the floor for hours how disrespectful.

So many cases have left me so upset about young black lads. Trayvon Martin wtf how did he get off with that.

Rice- the video shows police car pull up and shoot him dead straight away.. To me it looks like Rice is just walking around and not pointing the gun at anyone.

When my brothers were young and playing with guns in our garden someone called the police, they came and spoke to my brothers they did not arrive and open fire.

Msmargarethale · 26/11/2014 21:01

Obama summed it up when he said that this was not about the one incident in Ferguson. It's about a society where young black men feel they are treated differently to their white counterparts. Police officers - predominantly non black - can shoot and kill them with impunity. This does not happen to young white men.

Bulbasaur · 26/11/2014 21:06

They need to outfit police officers with body cams with audio, so that there is no dispute as to what happened. It's all very convenient than a officer can call a dead kid who can't tell his side of the story "a demon" and "crazy".

This is no different than pointing cameras at the registers in convenience stores to make sure no one is stealing. A police officer's word has proven time and time again to be untrustworthy it's time for transparency for what goes on.

noblegiraffe · 26/11/2014 21:08

He was unarmed. Look at these white guys who murdered loads of people and were taken into custody alive.

MidniteScribbler · 26/11/2014 21:14

Disgusts you more than the murder of an unarmed teenager?

You know, it is possible to be disgusted with more than one thing at a time. I'm disgusted that any young person had to die. I'm disgusted that people think the way to change society is to loot and destroy innocent parties property. I'm disgusted about puppy farms. I'm disgusted by the lack of funding for special needs education in the upcoming elections here. Plenty of things that I can be upset about, and all at the same time too. One particular cause does not have a monopoly over outrage.

YinmeetsYang · 26/11/2014 21:25

You know, it is possible to be disgusted with more than one thing at a time.

Nothing in your previous post suggest that you are outraged about Michael Brown's death at all.

JanetWeb2812 · 26/11/2014 21:32

East St Louis is just across the Mississippi from Ferguson and has a similar population of around 25,000. Ferguson is only 60% African-American; ESL is 99% with a majority African-American PD. In 2012 there were 25 homicides in the city. If you had a similar homicide rate in London that would see 8,000 killings a year.

Law enforcement in these cities is a dangerous jobs because the residents have a very, very high propensity to violence.

If you have a 20 stone giant grappling for your gun you shoot and you don't stop pulling the trigger shooting until the assailant is dead because if you don't the likelihood is that your badge will be next on the Roll of Honor.

Bulbasaur · 26/11/2014 21:34

Well, when you have a peaceful solution that actually works without having the police go "That's nice sweetie" to the collective masses, do be sure to let us all know what it is.

Should it be peaceful? Sure, if it would accomplish anything.

But they have every god given right to be absolutely outraged that it is once again alright to murder someone so long as they are black.

Hopefully this reaction is a wake up call that things desperately need to be reformed.

Bulbasaur · 26/11/2014 21:36

If you can't handle the heat, get the fuck out of the kitchen. I have no sympathy for these cops. They know what they're getting into, they're trained for what they're getting into.

If they're too panicky to handle it, they need to find a new career. Pure and simple.

CarryOn90 · 26/11/2014 21:38

After the slave trade

You cannot understand the horror and despair of the black community that they are still not free or equal?

I said that I do not know enough about the case to determine what was the right course of action. I am saddened by the death of any person, and saddened that this had to happen at all. just because I don't plan on throwing a brick through my neighbours window does not mean that I am not upset about something.

YABU

EveDallasRetd · 26/11/2014 22:04

Apparently it's kicking off in London. A protest outside the American Embassy has broken through a police fence. I can't do links, but it is being reported on Twitter.

God no wonder there's riots when people perturbed about the racism in police forces here and in the UK get called "hand wringers".

If I had a babysitter I'd head up to town and protest there with the families of some of the men killed.

Far far far too many, disproportionately many, black men are killed by the police here and in the US. It's a fucking disgrace.

FreudiansSlipper · 26/11/2014 22:25

Good luck to them Hmm them as in those others, those black people

how about black people are treated in the same way white people are from the police, courts and to prison service

and how about a country that has a vast amount of wealth dealing with the social injustices that separate people namely poverty which impacts are far higher percentage of black and Hispanic people than white

Mrsmorton · 26/11/2014 23:02

I've just finished a job trying to get people onto the electoral register (and therefore eligible for jury service). 100% of the White households signed no problem. The only refusers I had were Afro Caribbean women. Maybe that's the sort of reason they are under represented.
