Just had very heated row with my sister

...over whether the mum in the song I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus was cheating.

My sister says the mum was clearly playing away and the kids saw it. I say it was her husband and the kids, in their innocence, didn't get that.

AIBU?

We did, however, agree that apart from the 5 Gold Rings the bloke buying presents in the 12 Days of Christmas song got it really wrong.

Oh I weep for humanity. And the education system.

Of course it's daddy.

Are you the same people who think the channel tunnel's on the sea bed?

EduCated · 26/11/2014 21:44

Showy Yes Blush

At least I did til I was 15

Jill2015 · 26/11/2014 21:47

Of course it's the Dad!

Jill2015 · 26/11/2014 21:49

I started to read this and had a Superior Pat-on-the-Head, "yes, yes dear" type moment - but then I remembered the song I took literally for years and years....16 men on a dead man's chest, yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum? Great visions of a massive barrel-chested fella, big enough for 16 pirate-stylee chappies to sit on him. I think I only realised what the chest reference was when I saw an episode of Antiques Road Show and saw a Sea captain's trunk on it....ahhhh, lightbulb moment!

I love this! Grin

Nancy66 · 26/11/2014 21:55

I do think the mum in the Slade song is putting it about though. The line there is 'What will your daddy do when he sees your momma kissin' Santa Claus...'

maybe they're swingers or something.

Am amazed how many people didn't think it's her hubby!

You are right OP :D

whois · 26/11/2014 22:26

Obviously dad dressed as Santa!

Cocolate · 26/11/2014 22:30

It is the Daddy!!

Blankiefan · 26/11/2014 22:37

Are you the same people who think the channel tunnel's on the sea bed?

It's not? Where is it?

BuckskinnedAstronaut · 26/11/2014 22:49

Under the sea bed, Blankie -- which is why they needed tunnelling machines.

Honeydragon · 26/11/2014 22:55

Well that song finally explains why Santa comes once a year in so many houses.

steppemum · 26/11/2014 22:56

It is obviously daddy dressed as santa Grin

Bragadocia · 26/11/2014 23:04

Oh god, I was just trying to picture a viaduct thing in the Channel as the alternative to 'on the sea bed', and thinking that just couldn't be possible.

under the sea makes more sense. I remember the tunnelling now, when they broke through.

On the thread subject though, at least I knew that it was the dad! But I had no idea it existed before the Jackson 5 - i thought it was their song.

moonblues · 26/11/2014 23:31

It's definitely the daddy, though I remember it being one of those songs that puzzled me as a child.

I thought the Dead Man's Chest referred to the island, rather than a chest or a dead man...

LittleBairn · 26/11/2014 23:37

I always though it was the real Father Christmas too. Blush
But it was sort of innocent since he only visits once a year and in 50's she was hardly likely to run off to the North Pole...

LittleBairn · 26/11/2014 23:37

moonblues Shock I always though that was a pirate reference too!

zippyandbungle · 26/11/2014 23:42

Haha also bemused by the tunnel on stilts in my head. I did KNOW it was under the sea bed but totally threw me there.

Yes she's snogging her DH I can't remember a time I thought otherwise --smug smile-/

VenusRising · 26/11/2014 23:43

I always thought it was some randomer in a Santa suit who's popped in for a bit of egg(s)nog.

But now I think it's just daddy, and the poor children (including me) were traumatised, thinking their mum is some kind of winter role playing swinger.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/11/2014 23:48

But if Mommy is a single parent then presumably she is free to kiss whoever she wants. Not every family is the idealised, married, two parent one doncha know.

rubyflipper · 27/11/2014 09:04

It must have been Santa.

"Oh what a laugh it would have been.

If Daddy had only seen.
Mommy kissing Santa Claus last night."

Next you'll be telling me that Santa isn't real.

Sheitgeist · 27/11/2014 09:45

I was always convinced that it was meant to be the real Santa too... I just googled the lyrics (sad, I know) and am still not convinced its not. And it's just a kiss and a tickle, after all... she's grateful he's brought all those presents for her children, and it was under the mistletoe so she may have felt a little obliged to give Santa a peck, too.

Yes, and the incident is referenced in the Slade song when they ponder daddy's reaction when he caught them in the act.

happygirl87 · 27/11/2014 11:02

I never knew it was the Dad- this has made me SO happy! Grin
