Anyone know? DS 19 is a uni students - he needs glasses and contact lens. Not eligible for any benefits -just has his student loan.

Hmm mn I would get a cheap prescription from one then shop around online for glasses - using one of the trendy new on,I've boutiques like cubitts www.cubitts.co.uk Not sure about contacts though I've never found any cheap ones really.

he doesn't really need contact lenses, although they make life a lot easier. He also doesn't need student discounts.

eye test at Specsavers is £20 at most, often deals for less. (himself paid £7.50 last time) Specs and frames for £25.

annual lens checkup £20, monthly soft lenses £48 for six months supply when ordered online. Solutions £8 from Tesco which lasts me about four months.

DD goes to Boots. She got 50% off her glasses when she signed up to a contact lens contract. Not sure it that's advertised or not, but it was worth having.

one of them used to have a deal for nus card holders, think its boots.

Good too see our having your lens check every year special even those fb you buy online. Although once open solution should only be used for a month x

free eye tests at tesco opticians

£10 voucher on boots website atm, and £25 wayfarer style glasses from www.specspost.co.uk. I used this combination for my own uni student ds this morning.
I've used then many times, my glasses were £18 from there with prescription lenses. At that price I chop and change my glasses quite a bit.

appreciate your concern, tealady, but:

I buy the lenses online from Specsavers - it is cheaper than buying it from their shop or from their monthly scheme.

been wearing lenses for years but always start them from an optician, if you see what I mean. I entirely agree that no-one should just go to buy lenses for the hell of it, and any reputable supplier asks for a prescription anyway.

my bottle of opti-free express says 'discard remaining solution SIX months after opening'. I've always used it within that time.

no eye infections in 30 plus years of lens wearing.

Specsavers do free eye tests every so often. Look out for the lady outside their shop or local magazines or newspapers. Once you have your prescription i go to asda for glasses and they are thinner, cheaper and better than anywhere else. Specsavers lensmail is the cheapest ive seen although i believe you can buy contacts online but im wary of them as like specsavers back up.

Also there are probably a few places that have nus discount. Does his student union have an optician? If it does it might be worth checking prices.
