I really wish she hadn't said anything because I'm a born worrier but my friend who I saw today before she leaves for her holidays made an off the cuff remark about how she hopes ww3 doesnt break out while she's away.
She was quite jokey about it but mentioned all the trouble spots in the world and said how it could all easily escalate. Aibu to now be worried that she's right. I've always worried about this but try to put it to the back of my mind.
But the world does seem a scary place now. Please try to give me some reassurance.

I think you should go out immediately and see if the grip shop is still open. But maybe that's just me.

God, I so know how you feel. I'm a natural born worrier, and hate it when partner decides to tell me about some negative that's happening around the world
Bit mean of your friend worrying you like that, especially if she knows what you're like.

I know I do need to get a grip and I probably sound ridiculous. I just wish I could shake off this fear.

The trouble spots now were the trouble spots way back in the Middle Ages also, funny enough. Trade routes and strategic ports, along with oil rich countries, have a habit of finding themselves in a spot of bother every now and then. Add in religion, and the perfect mix. Perhaps a highly contagious disease mixed in with poor infrastructure and underlying political unrest. Voila, WW3.
Iran is playing up again, but what's new.
We all still have to get up tomorrow and pay the bills.

I just wish the UK government would stop going on about terrorism and wars and concentrate and looking after people in the UK
I am really pissed off that the police seem to have unlimited funds to fight their imagined war on terrorists but NHS staff can't have a pay rise. Get the priorities right.

Clearly we should all be interested in world politics and work towards world peace but In this case your anxiety has the better of you.

From one chronic worrier to another, the years 1868 and 1947 are the only 2 in the last 150 in which British soldiers have not been fighting and dying somewhere in the world. It has always been a scary place it's just today with have more media and faster communications to tell us about it. Don't upset yourself.

I used to suffer from horrible anxiety when I was younger and this was something I really focussed on. I look back now and can get it in perspective but it really upset me at the time, to the extent I couldn't sleep or eat. It only happened for a short time but was awful.

I'm nervous too OP. It's a grim old world at the moment, loads to worry about if you look for it.

Dontlaugh..... Iran and Israel have always been a bit of a worry. If they start that would be it wouldn't it?

I am not a worrier by nature and rarely waste my time worrying about anything but this does cross my mind often. I tend to just imagine I have won the euro millions and spend the money instead. It switches my brain off from things I can do nothing about.

I imagine of ww3 did start it would be over very quickly. Albeit with very few survivors but at least we wouldn't know anything about it. We would all just be wiped out by weapons of mass destruction.

It depends. Would you generally consider her as someone who might be 'in the know' with the wealthy and influential? She might have good reason but if she's otherwise unconnected, perhaps it's just conjecture. Well, if she's well connected and in the know, as mentioned, then she wouldn't be going on her holliers just before WW3, would she? She'd be stocking the secret bunker and making sure MI5/6 had her number.

My Dh does try to ease my worries by going on about "mutual assured destruction" and that's why it won't ever happen and I want to believe this but then i tend to dismiss this and imagine different scenarios for the super powers to get dragged in to some regional war and then find it hard to back down. Good grief I'm scaring myself again.

The super powers have too much to lose, mainly their own lives, so it's in all their interests that they swing their willies just enough so we all know who's in charge but not enough that they actually hit anyone with them.
