...to think somebody's marketing department deserves a kicking?!

So, it's pyjama day in the Gloopy house, and I'm watching one of those crap kids' channels that show garish adverts for over-priced tat, All well and good, me and my daughter enjoy a good laugh at some of the more ridiculous ones.

Then on comes an advert for something that appears similar to Hama beads, only they join with water, rather than heat. The name?

Beados!

I'm no prude, but AIBU to think that someone really ought to have pointed out the unfortunate similarity with another word?

If you were their marketing department, would you not be cringing with shame right now? hopes no one from the Beados marketing department is a MNer

It made me think of Beano before peado.

ChimesAndCarols · 23/11/2014 12:12

I think you are over thinking this !

TallulahTwinkletoes · 23/11/2014 12:14

Speedos also rhyme with paedos... Confused

gallopinghorse · 23/11/2014 12:19

used to be called aqua beads a far better name don't know why they changed it

Calloh · 23/11/2014 12:21

I thought you were maybe worried by the similarity to bidet and was a bit confused. Until I read the PPs saying paedo.

GloopyGhoul · 23/11/2014 12:27

Not overthinking chimes - if anything I was amused.

Tallulah yes, it does, and certainly when I grew up there was many a rhyme that disparaged the wearers of said speedos.

Took me ages to link to paedo! I though beano first.

bananaramadramallama · 23/11/2014 12:42

Gloopy, I agree - as soon as you say it out loud it's obvious!

On a slight tangent, but similar - I'm in the forces and the (official) shortened title for Physical Eductation Officer is PEdO Shock.

Why? Just why?

TheJiminyConjecture · 23/11/2014 12:46

I always snigger at the amount of adults double taking at children that start shrieking "Beados" at minions in toy shops.

BreakingDad77 · 23/11/2014 12:57

Similarly I'm can't help rise an eyebrow to the KFC colonels brownie bucket!

NutcrackerFairy · 23/11/2014 13:59

OP, I actually thought the same when I first heard this ad this morning!

I was distracted whilst doing something else and thought the product was 'Paedos', was just thinking "WTF!" and then realised it was 'Beados'.

We obviously share the same strange sick mind.

natwebb79 · 23/11/2014 14:11

Hahahaaaaaaa! Brilliant. Grin

TallulahTwinkletoes · 23/11/2014 14:46

What rhymes? Pray tell...

WyrdByrd · 23/11/2014 15:00

I thought of Speedos Confused Grin !

GloopyGhoul · 23/11/2014 15:02

Really? Would've thought it was obvious... "Paedos wear speedos" etc.

I'm not saying it's particularly big or clever, but as far as the eleven-year-old type humour I recall, fairly standard.

What's the beados/minions link?

Brownie bucket. Snort.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 23/11/2014 15:41

Well I thought there was more than one...

TheJiminyConjecture · 23/11/2014 16:37

In Despicable Me 2 the minion dressed up as a fireman shouts beado beado as a sort of minion nee naw replacement. Will try to find a clip

TheJiminyConjecture · 23/11/2014 16:40

Beedo Beedo Beedo:

Hopefully this works

BoneyBackJefferson · 23/11/2014 16:40

do you want them to do the same for pdfiles? you can download them straight to your pc

HugeFurryKnittingBalls · 23/11/2014 16:42

Maybe it's intentional, it's got you talking about it which is surely the intent in any marketing exercise?

GloopyGhoul · 23/11/2014 21:48

I've never noticed 'pdfiles' before, but it would make me raise an eyebrow!

You're right there balls - I won't be forgetting the beados.
