to think Nick Conrad (BBC Norfolk) should be gagged with his own bloody knickers

The man is pathetic, but his views are still very harmful.
Apparently a man's sexual urges are some sort of juggernaut without brakes. Turn it on, and there is nothing to be done but let it roll on to the finish. Sad and sickening.

boomtown this is worth reading to know the true facts.

WellnowImFucked · 19/11/2014 23:04

Oh and having knickers of steel . . . .

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 20/11/2014 15:05

I am always quite Hmm when I see or read comments about mens inability to say no to their erect penis. I always wonder what skeletons might be lurking.

Yes, sounds like they're justifying their actions. Christ knows what they've been up to.

teawamutu · 20/11/2014 19:16

They all give the same pointless non-apology, don't they? Nick Conrad is sorry 'if' people were offended. Not, e.g.:

  1. That many people WERE offended
  2. That he's a revolting, misogynist, rape apologist twat
  3. That he's also an incompetent arsehole who preferred to recycle tired old rape myths rather than for example, READ THE FACTS of the case he was holding a three-hour 'debate' on. The sentencing remarks are freely available online, FFS.
Cherriesandapples · 20/11/2014 19:22

Well it is what I have come to expect of the BBC! Rape apologists the lot of them.

HotCrossPun · 20/11/2014 21:20

There's a petition! www.change.org/p/bbc-sack-nick-conrad

chaya5738 · 20/11/2014 22:50

So if a man anally raped him, it would be his fault for walking around with an anus?

I am so fucking sick of morons like this guy mouthing off about rape as if they are completely immune from it because they aren't giving off the "Rape me!" signals.

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 20/11/2014 23:37

The BBC have to drop their licence fee after this. They can't be charging people to listen to this stuff.

Slagging off rape victims has become the new benefit bashing (which I also disapprove of).

I've survived a rape. I'm over it. Many women aren't. They still need love and support. Not this shit. Comments like this could tip someone over the edge. At least there needs to be some kind of warning before they say this crap - like with flashing images.

justkeeponsmiling · 20/11/2014 23:38

Signed the petition. What a pig.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 21/11/2014 00:01

I wrongly assumed old-school view equals older person, and was more horrified to hear this came from a young person. I hope it's not a representative view. Have signed the petition. Feel a bit... I dunno, sad, sorry for myself, sorry for my daughter and everyone's daughters, and sons, and really... in 2014? It's exhausting, and will it be never-ending?

BarbarianMum · 21/11/2014 00:13

It's quite terrifying that he actually believes this stuff. And yes, it does make me wonder about his past/present relationships. I wonder if he thinks when his wife gets into bed naked with him she's up for any of his mates to have a go too?

DuelingFanjo · 21/11/2014 00:14

Seriously, if you are likely to be offended by the views of many young men don't ever go on Twitter. The whole ched Evans thing has shown me that there are many, mostly football obsessed teenagers, who have no respect for women at all. :(

teawamutu · 21/11/2014 07:29

Would he tell his dd it was her fault if she was raped in similar circumstances to the rapist Ched Evans' victim?

londonrach · 21/11/2014 07:50

Have also put a complaint in. Hate the fact that mr conrad said its the womans fault as she must realise a man cant stop once sex is started. Come on, what an awful thing to say. Of course the man can stop if a woman says no and in this case mr evans broke into her room with a borrowed key card. Furious.

HotCrossPun · 21/11/2014 09:13

I am speaking to BBC Norfolk later on about the decision to let him keep his job. Need to get as many signatures on the petition before then so please sign it and share widely :)

I have had a pathetic response from the BBC and will be following up later on today. Their email says this:

Dear DoJo,
Thanks for contacting us about Nick Conrad.

During Nick’s programme there was a wide-ranging, hour long debate with listeners about the ethics surrounding the Ched Evans case. Nick made it very clear that he strongly believes rape to be an abhorrent and unacceptable act. He was also joined on-air by Sarah Green from ‘End Violence Against Women’ who spoke at length with both Nick and callers to the programme.

However, Nick also made some very ill judged comments and BBC management has made it clear to him that they were inappropriate.

Nick is very sorry for any offence he has caused and he sincerely apologised at the beginning of his programme on 20 November.

We appreciate how strongly you feel about this and we thank you for your feedback.

Kind Regards

BBC Complaints

So, I was going to compare it with the case I mentioned earlier whereby another local DJ was sacked for racism and mention that his comments weren't just ill-judged but actively promoted the view that some women deserve to be raped. If anyone else has anything they think I should add, I will be glad to include it...

LineRunner · 21/11/2014 14:39

I have signed it and will complain to Ofcom. Fuck the BBC.

fourwoodenchairs · 21/11/2014 14:40

Signed, Hot

teawamutu · 21/11/2014 14:46

The laziness and/or incompetence of hosting a three hour debate on the case on zero research?

And that he didn't actually apologise for his views or say he was wrong _ just 'if' people were offended.

floatyflo · 21/11/2014 14:55

Have signed

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 21/11/2014 14:57

I have had the exact same response DoJo. It's not good enough and I will be complaining again. It's just a re-hash of his on air 'apology'.

No mention about the incompetence of a radio presenter hosting a 'debate' on a highly sensitive issue without doing the appropriate research, and getting callers on who also have no knowledge of the issue at hand.

And yes, he did say that rape is abhorrent, but when, in the previous breath, you have said that women have to take responsibility for their part in the crime of rape, it rather renders the 'rape is abhorrent' part meaningless.

And he has not apologised for his comments, he has apologised to anyone who is offended by them. Not the same thing, and the licence payer is still paying for people like him to air his 'abhorrent' views.
