and it's a French test (3rd part) next day. And there are actually 3 movies back to back from 6pm till 2am.
But...
she is obsessed with Hunger Games, has read and re-read all 3 books
It's her "main thing " on her Xmas wish-list (only other things on list are the books and some shirts).
She went to bed early last night
She thinks she scored 100% in the first 2 parts of the French test.

Well, I'm off to have a snooze now, as she won't be able to go on her own tonight.
And yes, i still think it's completely mad to take her...

You only live once and I think this will create a fab memory for her.I remember when one of the Harry Potters came out, taking my then 7 yr old to buy it at a minute past midnight.there was a great atmosphere!

Utterly mad and exactly the kind of thing I do.
It's one night and she will remember in years to come that you did this. I still remember the things like this my mum did and try to make these memories for my dc as well.
Hope she loves every minute.

I'm going to a screening tonight. And im up at 5 for work. If it's a one off then I don't see why not.

I tried to take my 11 yr old to a midnight Harry Potter a few years ago, bought the tickets and then read the small print. No under 18s!

That was at an Odeon, they did refund me, but I thought it was odd that the web site let me buy a child price ticket.

Not unreasonable - and really exciting for your daughter! Do check the age limit though, I often go to late night screenings simply because they are all over 18 (even 15 and 12A rated films) and I'm a miserable bugger who gets really irritated by children / teenagers enjoying themselves at the cinema

We're not doing it tonight and the DDs are not happy BUT I'm well past being able to be out half the night and it's a real pain getting DD3 looked after.

DDs 1 and 2 would go on their own but they would need taking and picking up see issues above

If her general attendance is good then yes, and take the day off the next day too so she can get back on track really quickly. Better she misses a day than is asleep at her desk.

Make sure she absolutely knows her French - inside out and upside down - beforehand though. If she learns it properly she won't forget it. And make sure she understands she'll have a little catching up to do for missing a day.

Also it is good practice for GCSEs (up into the night cramming or clubbing, one or the other. If she can ace the test under those conditions she can handle anything)

My 12 yr old is gutted as I can't take him tonight - I've said he can do the Hobbit one though in a few weeks.

As a one off it's a great treat imo - memories created as a pp said.

(I went to the 'Twiathalon' when the last Twighlight film came out - was ace! )

And people wonder why schools are fining parents for unauthorised absence when they need a day off because they've been to the cinema the night before.

Why not wait? Why does everything have to be here and now? New releases of films/gadgets/music-why does everyone have to have them straight away, so much so that they will queue up and camp for hours or days to be first? Our nearest town has a small local cinema. Film releases are anything from 1 to 4 weeks later than the multi-nationals. So we wait-because if we and many others didn't the cinema would close. This trait of instant gratification is surely something we should be trying to draw kids away from and teach them some patience?
