To wonder what to take to a baby shower in a restaurant?

I'm old but have been invited to a friend's baby shower which is in a restaurant. I have no idea what to take - all I know is that I should take a present. What do people expect? It's her first baby. Is the present for her or the baby?

Sorry not to be able to help. I'm also old and I wouldn't attend a baby shower because I think they're pushy and grabby. I'd wait till baby was born then buy a gift for the baby.

I don't like baby showers either. I've been to one and took a present for the baby, but you could take a present for the mum as well I suppose. She'll probably get lots of cute little baby outfits so maybe you could go for something more practical?

I got given stuff for me and baby when my friends arranged a baby shower for me.

Traditionally, baby shower gifts are small and are items which the recipient would have had no need for before having children.

So stuff for the baby (either practical or cute) or stuff for the heavily PG or newly delivered body (including mind and spirit, but with a motherhood theme).

I had one (asked for no presents so tried not to be grabby!) but one fried did get me a present - a hospital survival kit for labour and staying over, so nice mini shampoo, a cool face spray, a mini bottle of wine etc
and also a little babygro.

I'd get something pamper-y for your friend and something for the baby - she'll get loads of newborn stuff so maybe get a toy or 6-9month clothes

Chocs and pineapple juice for the MTb and some onesies? Never been to one (am 36 so it would not be unusual I guess) if you would spend £20 on a friend's baby spend £10 for shower and £10 when baby here (if that's what you normally do anyway)

I would just go and not bother with a gift and say that you will give the mother to be a present after the baby is born.

I'd get something for the mother (and showers aren't all grabby, they can just be nice events).

Either mini-toiletries, a photo frame, a memory book, that kind of thing.

Needn't be expensive.

Shower gel and a loofah.

I've never been to a baby shower either, as they're just not the thing you do here (or at least no-one I know does anyway!)
They seem a bit of a weird concept to me. However, if I did get invited to one, I'd take it to mean something to buy for the baby.
So something like a babygro or a little outfit. As I take the term 'baby shower' to mean party for the BABY to get things that the baby might need. Not things that the mum to be's grabbing and grasping at in the form of expected presents.

I recently had a baby and I got a mixture of gifts at the shower some for the baby and some for me that were baby related ie baby powder smelling yankie candle or relaxing bath things they were very much appreciated xx
