To let my dd's sell

My dd's are 9 and 8 and have asked me if I would let them sell the loom bands they make. They are very good at making them and want to make their own money for Christmas.

I'm not sure about it as whilst I like their initiative, I wouldn't want them to annoy any of the local neighbourhood. Would you be irritated?

I can't imagine there would be a demand to be honest. At this stage everyone and their dog has got a loom. I think it would just irritate people unfortunately.

Yes, that would irritate me a bit...but only if other kids caught on to the idea so someone was always knocking.

I genuinely cant see anyone buying them though, as most people have children or grand children who already made tons when they were in fashion.

They make very difficult bracelets, not the standard starbursts or fishtails. It's a shame as they have so many but no real use for them.

Well, I would buy some for my DD, as she likes them but doesn't have the dexterity to make anything complicated herself.

Does their school have a Christmas fair? Could they have a stall there and split the money with the PTA?

Well that's the thing isn't it, no one else will have any real use for them either.

Selling them door to door would be ridiculous, and selling at school would probably not be allowed.

If two children appeared at my door selling loom-band creations, I'd probably think their parents were down to their last penny Grin

There is a carboot sale held at the end of the month, would it be worth letting them sell there. Maybe as stocking fillers?

Yes, I would as its just more stuff that won't biodegrade going into landfill

Maybe they're catchment area is other kids though?

Oh, those really are not very complicated at all.

If you are going to the car boot anyway, there's no harm in giving them a bit of space, but I wouldn't expect great things when most people will be looking for a bit more for their money.

As a pp suggested, a school Christmas fair might be a better bet.

I think selling them at a car boot is fine but tbh wouldn't like them being sold door to door. It makes people feel awkward and obliged to buy.

You could try the carboot sale, but be prepared not to break even once you've paid for the pitch.

If anything though, it should be a fun experience for them Smile

I'd be irritated by a child coming to my door to try and sell me something that my own children can make. And if I didn't have children then there's no way I'd ever have worn a look band! I think the craze for them is over now tbh.

A car boot might be worth a try, but I'd be worried they would be disheartened if it didn't work and would encourage them to give them out as gifts instead.

I'd be irritated too, because I'd feel like a right bitch if I didn't buy one from a child and I don't have a need for one and don't want one.

As an aside, I am disabled and I get really pissed off when people knock on my door for things such as this, because it takes me ages to get out of the chair and it actually causes me pain to do so.

Op do you mean door to door? If you do yes I'd be cross at being disturbed and no I wouldn't buy them (and I'd feel guilty for that which would make me more cross with you! )

If you mean a stall, craft fair, school fete or similar then I wouldn't mind at all. I'd admire their gumption and probably buy a little something.

Agree with everyone else.
I doubt they'd make the 'table fee' back at a craft fayre or car boot sale or Christmas fayre, but, if you were having a table for yourself and they had a space on it, then fair enough - they might be pleasantly surprised, but, as everyone else said, there isn't really the market for them - adults aren't going to walk around with a bracelet made of small elastic bands, and dcs all make their own, so I wouldn't let them go selling door to door or on a street corner, no.

There was a loom band stall at my DC's school Summer Fete (when they were still popular).

The kids were asked to make and donate 1 or 2 loom bands each, for the PTA to sell.

They were inundated with bands, but they only managed to sell a handful because anyone interested in them, already had tons.

I think those who love loom bands wouldn't buy them because they could make them themselves.

A christmas fair or car boot would be the best place if they did decide to go for it. However I don't think much will come from it. Sorry.

Put them on Ebay. They'll soon lose interest when they don't sell, though who knows, maybe a few will.

Op, a couple of children had a stall at our school su,mmr fair selling loom band bracelets. They had to pay £5 to the PSA for the stall. They sold out! Granted it was at loom band peak but if your dcs made Xmas ones with Xmas charms they could do well. Ask PSA about the fair, if they allow people to gp have their own stall for a fee then they could do that.

The thing with loom bands is that the pleasure of them is in the making and giving of them- not the wearing.

They're just this year's friendship bracelets. I can't imagine there's much of a market for people to buy them from strangers.
