am i being unreasonable to think i can breast feed anywhere. When i had my last child i breast fed every where in mcdonalds, at the bus stop on the bus. only ever had one problem in mcdonalds. i was asked to stop breast feeding and i erm.... no. and that was end of it. But im wondering by law can i be asked to stop breast feeding in public? family restaurants, buses where ever really? and if i refuse what could happen?

I have to confess that it's not the sort of thing I'd want to see if I'm eating and drinking in McDonalds so that specific setting I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask you to stop. The bus stop and the bus itself seem fair enough. TondelayoSchwarzkopf it's a bit different to sneezing.

FayKorgasm · 15/11/2014 16:55

Well you probably wouldn't be allowed breastfeed anywhere that is restricted access or age limited like a building site or a betting shop.

TeenageMutantNinjaTurtle · 15/11/2014 16:56

Are you actually serious Aduaz? You know that it would be illegal to ask someone to stop breastfeeding in McDonalds?! I feed my older child in restaurants so I feed my baby there too.

redexpat · 15/11/2014 16:58

Aduaz if you dont want to see it in mcdonalds then you should look away.

KenDodddied · 15/11/2014 16:59

Aduaz, your comment has made me chuckle. Seeing someone get a nutritious meal in McDonald's would be a bit odd I agree.

FayKorgasm · 15/11/2014 16:59

The whole of Costa saw my boob when dc popped off for a look around and I was so engrossed in MN research I didn't notice until my nipple got chilly.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 15/11/2014 17:00

I know, fancy people thinking you could eat/drink in McDonalds Hmm Aduaz, I'd suggest you stay home.

Aduaz · 15/11/2014 17:05

I didn't actually know that until about 20 minutes ago when I started reading this and someone else mentioned the Equality Act thing. I think feeding your older kids from a plate or bowl in a restaurant is quite different to BF.

constantlystartingadiet · 15/11/2014 17:07

I was asked to stop breast feeding while waiting for a hospital appointment, by a nusre, this was 3 years ago, baby was only 2 months ish old. I did put in a complaint but not sure what action was taken.

Aduaz · 15/11/2014 17:07

TestingTestingWonTooFree, it's not feeding/drinking itself that I have a problem with, just BF. And "problem with" isn't really what I mean, I don't know how I explain it but basically it's just not something I want to see when I'm eating food because it would probably put me off. Don't have a problem with BF itself just that in the specific context of a restaurant it would put me off a bit.

FayKorgasm · 15/11/2014 17:10

Aduaz you do realise that people have probably bf while you've been sat in McDonald's and you haven't noticed.

Aduaz · 15/11/2014 17:11

Yes probably and that's fine.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/11/2014 17:12

I have to confess that it's not the sort of thing I'd want to see if I'm eating and drinking in McDonalds so that specific setting I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask you to stop.

It would be extremely unreasonable and illegal! Shock

FayKorgasm · 15/11/2014 17:12

So it dosen't put you off your food then. Thats thà t solved.

YonicScrewdriver · 15/11/2014 17:13

You understand that the baby is eating, right, Aduaz? Where do you think the baby should eat if not with the rest of its family?

Aduaz · 15/11/2014 17:16

SauvignonBlanche while I accept it would be illegal I think it would be a reasonable thing to ask in that specific setting.

FayKorgasm it's a case of out of sight out of mind. If I see it happening then yes it probably will put me off my food but if it's happening 3 tables behind me then I'm oblivious to it, and because I don't even notice it, it's obviously not putting me off food.

Shlep · 15/11/2014 17:18

Tbh, wherever non breastfed babies and children eat, you can breastfeed, imo.

SauvignonBlanche · 15/11/2014 17:19

I suggest you eat at home. Angry

YonicScrewdriver · 15/11/2014 17:20

Aduaz, it would put me off my food if you were wearing a Phil Collins fan tshirt. It would be unreasonable for me to ask you to leave or turn it inside out, though.

Gruntfuttock · 15/11/2014 17:20

Why does it put you off your food? Confused I'm completely baffled.

Aduaz · 15/11/2014 17:21

Yes YonicScrewdriver just because I don't have boobs doesn't mean I don't know what happens during BF. The second question is a bit tricky, the baby does have to feed after all. I'm not sure in honesty.

insancerre · 15/11/2014 17:21

Its reasonable to ask a mother to stop feeding a baby because the sight of the baby feeding would put you off your food? Hmm
Well, where do you suggest the baby feeds then?
The issue is more about the rights of a baby to be able to feed wherever it happens to be rather than what might put you off your food.

formerbabe · 15/11/2014 17:21

while I accept it would be illegal I think it would be a reasonable thing to ask in that specific setting

Makes absolutely no sense!

Gruntfuttock · 15/11/2014 17:23

So do you disagree with the law on this matter, Aduaz?

FayKorgasm · 15/11/2014 17:24

You are very childish.
