To wonder why going out drinking is so looked down on here?

Typical night out for my friends and I - around 3/4 bars and then usually at the end a bar that has music and dance.

Throughout the night some of us leave at 10, some much later, some don't drink at all, never any pressure to drink, never any pressure to dance (a couple of them hate it), we can handle our drink, are not throwing up on the streets etc

I don't understand why in most peoples minds on here that going out involves drinking until you pass out, throw up all over yourself and get with random strangers. What kind of friends do you have?

For some reason people are reacting to this thread in a strange way.

When there's posters starting threads taking piss out of others yet they don't get jumped on or have their posts examined under a magnifying glass.

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 14:59

With the "what kind of friends do you have?" Comment, I meant that I've seen on here that posters don't want to go out with some friends because they end up drinking too much etc

I'm not opposed to any night out. Some of my friends don't like drinking very much so they will come out for one and then go home early.

I'm saying I think theres a lot of judgement on here of people going out drinking. There was even a comment now - drinking to get drunk is boring. I drink, not to get drunk - but so what if I did?

Theres really does seem to be a competitive old before your time thing on MN.

I spend my life on this site and I don't agree with op, because I do not pick up the vibe that a significant number of Mumsnetters think going out for a big night out is something to be frowned on. I genuinely don't.

Am I supposed to keep my mouth shut for fear of offending op by not agreeing with her?

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 15:01

I really don't get why people are demanding to know what I'm trying to achieve or saying I need to give evidence.

Confused

No Mintyy but one of your comments on here seemed to suggest you were leaving this thread and yet here you still are.

I don't believe you've ever kept your mouth shut for fear of offending someone.

Not at all mintyy :)

WorraLiberty · 08/11/2014 15:04

I haven't really seen that sort of attitude on MN

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 08/11/2014 15:05

Ive seen that everywhere, not just MN though.

QuintsBombWithAWiew · 08/11/2014 15:05

You have picked a bad time for this non issue of yours, Kimber. There is a thread in active convos right now where posters are encouraging an OP to go out, get drunk, and dance.

I did leave, press-ganged ds up the stairs and made him clear out EVERYTHING that was under his bed, including 50,000 pieces of lego, some stray, some in the nice sorting boxes I bought him, found the controls for his favourite remote control car which he was dead chuffed about, hoovered under said bed, had shower, made lunch for everyone (beans on toast, or cheese on toast, or cheesey beans on toast depending on individual preferences) and now I'm having a nice cup of tea and have come back to the threads I'm on. Hope that's ok with you.

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 15:08

Yes you're right biscuits.
Mintyy you've just reminded me I need to tidy kids' toy room. Sigh

I love going out dancing and clubbing all night. Sometimes I drink, sometimes I don't, sometimes I get drunk. But I enjoy socialising, dancing and good music as much as I do a good book, or learning languages or any of my other hobbies.

RandallFloyd · 08/11/2014 15:27

Like others have said, I don't think anyone here is anti-drinking. Wine o'clock and drunk threads exist on MN for a reason. Hell, I like a couple from time to time, but some of us would like to think that as responsible parents who have long since outgrown the boozy late-teen/early 20's phase of our lives, the idea of drinking to such extremes seems like a waste of a perfectly good evening.

I think that ^^ sums up the attitude the OP is talking about. I certainly don't think it's the majority opinion but it does crop up pretty regularly.

RandallFloyd · 08/11/2014 15:28

Mmmm, cheesey beans.
With the toast though, I hope. Not on the toast.
I might have to have that for my tea now.

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 15:35

Yes thats it Randall

Geez I should have let some of you write my post for me - you've all explained it a million times better than I have
