To wonder why going out drinking is so looked down on here?

Typical night out for my friends and I - around 3/4 bars and then usually at the end a bar that has music and dance.

Throughout the night some of us leave at 10, some much later, some don't drink at all, never any pressure to drink, never any pressure to dance (a couple of them hate it), we can handle our drink, are not throwing up on the streets etc

I don't understand why in most peoples minds on here that going out involves drinking until you pass out, throw up all over yourself and get with random strangers. What kind of friends do you have?

OP posts:
EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 14:23

It isn't about that. It's about how she thinks the opinion on MN is. In the OP she mentions having nights out so I'm guessing she might be for them....

I don't drink through the week but come the odd Saturday and I'm drinking from 8pm til 8am. Apart from last week when it took me two hours and a thread to get a bottle of jäger free Grin

EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 14:24

stealth I've noticed it. Usually on Sunday's when they have had a few drinks in the pub and home for 8pm for slippers

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:24

I think she's for big nights out drinking. Making the point that not everyone who goes out intending to drink a lot ends up drunk in a gutter

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:25

...and antiques roadshow

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:27

I have to say twelve hours of drinking sounds horrendous though! Don't you fall asleep at around 3am? What do you DO for all that time
(No...don't answer that...)

EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 14:29

Clubs are open here til 6/7

First set of clubs close at 2am then we move on to the late ones. We drink and get ready. Out at 12ish.

Drink, dance, smoke, have a laugh... Goes surprisingly fast

I'm perfectly sober. :) And still don't understand where the OP is trying to get at.

I'm sure it will end up in a vague debate with people saying what they do when they get out. Not sure it qualifies as AIBU.

Has no one else noticed an almost competitive "old before my years"ness on mn? People seem keen to talk about anything they think makes them seem middle aged when they're not. This "can't face big nights out, would rather be home in my slippers with a cuppa" seems to me to be an extension of that
Maybe it's just me who has noticed that"

See, eve you can't agree on what she is going on about. :)

SophiaPetrillo · 08/11/2014 14:34

The OP doesn't read like an OP, it reads like an angry response to someone who's suggested to the OP that her drinking is out of control and that she'll end the night honking up/sleeping with a random. "Most people on here" and "What kind of friends do you have?" are very provocative and completely out of nowhere. It's just a goady, poke MNetters with a stick type thread and it makes no sense.

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:35

Oh well never mind
You go out at midnight?

Vagndidit · 08/11/2014 14:35

Seems like you've mistaken MN for an article in the DailyMail. clutching pearls

Like others have said, I don't think anyone here is anti-drinking. Wine o'clock and drunk threads exist on MN for a reason. Hell, I like a couple from time to time, but some of us would like to think that as responsible parents who have long since outgrown the boozy late-teen/early 20's phase of our lives, the idea of drinking to such extremes seems like a waste of a perfectly good evening.

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:38

Lweji no you're right that that extract doesn't make much sense. Some of those were x posts I believe.
If I need to be very careful and precise about what I write on mn so it can be critically reviewed then I think it's no longer the place for me tbh.

MeMyselfAnd1 · 08/11/2014 14:39

Because it comes a time in life when going out for the sake of getting drunk gets boring.

Personally, getting tipsy/drunk lost its cool, the day I was old enough to drink legally.

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:39

They'll also have to do something about the x posts as they lead to a lot of confusion. Not sure how to prevent them

Lweji · 08/11/2014 14:41

My main problem is that the title says something completely different from the OP to start with. She actually accuses MN of two completely different things.
The OP herself is very vague.

I like people to be very clear about what they mean, so I try to clarify it so that I can answer appropriately. It's the best way to avoid confusion and some of the mess some MN threads become.

Lweji · 08/11/2014 14:42

It's just a goady, poke MNetters with a stick type thread and it makes no sense.
Indeed.

Lweji · 08/11/2014 14:45

This post didn't go through in my iPod earlier in the thread. I hope it explains the inconsistencies I find.

Ok I should explain myself again -

In my opinion if you go out at the weekend to bars/clubs, drink and dance etc then its viewed as being very immature.
is it your opinion that it's immature, or do you think people view it as immature?
Drinking and dancing doesn't necessarily mean drunk.

Some people seem to imagine that a night out involves excessive drinking, throwing up and passing out.
Some do, yes. Is it newsworthy?
I'm sure even they know that some other people don't drink too much when going out.

Still not sure what you want to debate.

EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 14:46

The comments from me and stealth were about something different to the thread. They dont need examining Grin

I've seen goody threads and try aren't questioned in depth like this one [grin{

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:46

K I understand it that the op feels that on mn drinking to get drink is frowned on, and going out with drinking as an aim in mind are seen as immature, and that there is an assumption that the drinker ends up (literally or metaphorically) in a gutter.
Of course the truth is it is immature, which is why I feel that on a site where many/most posters are sensible grown ups with young children, it will be seen as immature. I have no problem with it but I also have no problem with it being slightly frowned on.
I'm not sure that helps :o happy to admit I'm adding my own interpretation as I've seen similar /related attitudes on mn, as well as the slippers phenomenon that I've already mentioned - competitive faddy duddiness.

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:47

Anyway Derek I still haven't met you and I'd like to. You can take me out drinking but I'll need to be back at my travelodge by 11.30 :o

EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 14:47

By viewed as immature I think she means it's viewed here as immature.

The title is pretty clever as to what she is asking

EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 14:48

stealth 11.30am I can do Grin

QuintsBombWithAWiew · 08/11/2014 14:50

You clearly have managed to avoid both:
Friday night drunk threads
Saturday night drunk threads
Wednesday night drunk threads
Friday night bum sex threads
Bum sex threads
Is it wine o clock yet threads

Stealthpolarbear · 08/11/2014 14:51
