To wonder why going out drinking is so looked down on here?

Typical night out for my friends and I - around 3/4 bars and then usually at the end a bar that has music and dance.

Throughout the night some of us leave at 10, some much later, some don't drink at all, never any pressure to drink, never any pressure to dance (a couple of them hate it), we can handle our drink, are not throwing up on the streets etc

I don't understand why in most peoples minds on here that going out involves drinking until you pass out, throw up all over yourself and get with random strangers. What kind of friends do you have?

Im trying to link but can't do it on my new phone Blush

TBH I always have the same impression as the OP. That most MNers look down on going out drinking/clubbing. Not looking down on it, but its something just for those who are young or have no DCs.

Id love to have a good night out drinking/dancing with friends, but since I moved a few years ago to the country Ive not been out like that. Its been 3 years.

Ive never gone out so Ive been totally passed out or sick, but I do enjoy a night out where the night does revolve around have a drink in a few different bars. Im 35 now and I miss my 20's where it was the norm for a Fri or Sat night.

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 13:43

what are you trying to achieve with this thread?

Erm ..... A discussion? Hmm

I assume that is why most people start threads.

You can just paste the URL in, don't have to do clever urls any more

EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 13:44

A good night out for me is out at 10pm and in for 10am.

I've noticed that most here prefer to drink a bottle of wine a night in their own home instead of drinking out.

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 13:45

I'm glad some people are agreeing that they have seen the same as me - only because I thought I was going crazy and making it up Grin

OraProNobis · 08/11/2014 13:45

I think on here most people assume a night out involves heavy drinking, being sick and coming home at 7am

In what parallel universe are you operating OP? Is it nice there? What is your leader like? Shock

juneau · 08/11/2014 13:46

I honestly have no idea what you're on about. I've been on MN for several years now and I have never seen a thread where posters make an issue out of others going out for a night of drinking and dancing. To me, this is entirely normal behaviour - it certainly was for me in my teens and 20s and I have never thrown up or passed out in the street - however drunk I got!

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/11/2014 13:46

I've just googled, Stealth, and apparently it's not my fault it's apple's. Bastards

socially · 08/11/2014 13:47

I have never read any sort of judgement on here regarding going out.

And I've been here a long time.

SophiaPetrillo · 08/11/2014 13:48

You still haven't answered my question..what thread? what OPs? Seriously, what are you on about?

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 13:50

Ok I should explain myself again -

In my opinion if you go out at the weekend to bars/clubs, drink and dance etc then its viewed as being very immature.

Some people seem to imagine that a night out involves excessive drinking, throwing up and passing out.

OP posts:
EatShitDezza · 08/11/2014 13:50

I've seen it.

I've also seen people who say they never ever drink and look down on those who do as who knows what emergency will pop up and they might have to take a child to hospital or some other bollocks.

OP you are in AIBU, the land of denial. Most here will argue that the sky is green just for the sake of it.

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/11/2014 13:50

It's called "worse thing you did whilst drunk"

Mintyy · 08/11/2014 13:50

Roffle! This is hilarious.

Lweji · 08/11/2014 13:50

But a discussion about what exactly?
That thread? There are also threads about EA parents and PhDs and I don't assume they are representative of MN.

About what a good night out is?

What kind of friends do we have?

From your thread title and the OP the possibilities are endless.

Mintyy · 08/11/2014 13:50

So there's one thread, right?

KimberBentonIsGoingSolo · 08/11/2014 13:51

I'm not referring to one thread.

OP posts:
Mintyy · 08/11/2014 13:52

Which makes this a thread about a thread?

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/11/2014 13:52

It's just me going on about that thread Grin

TheCowThatLaughs · 08/11/2014 13:53

I just thought people might be interested! I suppose no one expects the thread police though Shock

socially · 08/11/2014 13:53

I'd say that going out and drinking to the point on passing out or throwing up is frowned upon here, possibly.

I mostly read about men doing it when their wife is up to her eyeballs at home, the typical cocklodger scenario.

That is definitely frowned upon.

But just going out? I honestly haven't seen it passed judgement on.

Mintyy · 08/11/2014 13:53

Oh its too off the wall for me.

SophiaPetrillo · 08/11/2014 13:54

This still isn't making sense. You accuse MN of looking down on anyone having a drinking session as immature and assuming that going out for an evening's drinking will inevitably lead to chucking up and sex with a random, but you can't actually back it up with any examples. What a load of utter shite.
