Last August an acquaintance of dh's was trying to rehome a dog on FB for her mil, who got a Labrador puppy, despite having a heart problem and not being able to walk very far.

The Mils condition worsened, and necessitated long hospital stays so after much debate dh and I took the dog, and gave her £100, rather than her be pts or flogged in FB.

We have since had her spayed, and her microchip changed into our name.

The mil has been in touch to say her other son has just left the army, and could therefore do the walking, and can she have the dog back?Shock

Aibu to say no you can't you cheeky cow, we love her and she is very much part of our family.Angry

No, totally your dog not hers at all. You paid for her,end of story.

TheMaddHugger · 08/11/2014 07:53

nope, not true, dog is in your name under the micro chip Correct

BabyDubsEverywhere · 08/11/2014 07:53

Id go and get her chipped and registered to you, just to make myself feel better tbh.

Catthiefkeith · 08/11/2014 07:54

Blocking on FB will make no difference - they know where we live as her son home checked us before we got us. (Not army son, the huge doorman son)

Surely the fact that she gave her permission to have the chip changed over is proof that the dog is no longer hers?

NormaStanleyFletcher · 08/11/2014 07:54

Just no. Not interested in selling our family pet.

Agree, she is one stop short of Dagenham (Barking)

Catthiefkeith · 08/11/2014 07:55

Her microchip is in our name, but apparently crazy lady has KC reg papers for her (which we didn't know existed)

OP posts:
RubyGoat · 08/11/2014 07:55

Absolutely not. Did you have any written correspondence at the time, referring to the actual sale of the dog to yourselves? Just send a copy back to her. It's now your dog, you've had it since a puppy/young dog if if I'm understanding that correctly?

WienerDiva · 08/11/2014 07:58

There's a website called dog law uk. In case you get really stuck.

She's completely out of order even thinking to ask for the dog back IMHO!

Do you have any proof that you exchanged monies with the idiot woman?

Is the dog's microchip in your name?

Has the dil put any comments on how nice it is to see Daisy settled in her new home etc?

Some people really so take the piss!!!!

Foxbiscuitselection · 08/11/2014 07:58

Have you any written evidence they gave you the dog. Emails or texts etc. did you write a cheque.

They are very cruel, demanding the dog back

WienerDiva · 08/11/2014 07:58

DO take the piss not so take it. Sorry.

Catthiefkeith · 08/11/2014 07:58

Only a couple of Facebook messages, which I have found and screen shot, but they are from the sil, not crazy lady.

I have never met crazy lady, she was very ill at the time so we dealt with the son/dil. I did have one phone conversation though, when I spelled out that it would have to be a permanent move.

She can't go, dd would be absolutely devastated.Sad (as would we)

Foxbiscuitselection · 08/11/2014 07:59

If she withheld papers, she must of been planning this

PumpkinsMummy · 08/11/2014 07:59

KC papers may prove that the breeder sold her to the crazy lady originally, but they are not proof of current ownership now. If you have her microchipped you are fine. If she was already chipped when you got her and crazy lady signed her over then she has no claim now.

Catthiefkeith · 08/11/2014 08:00

Lots of comments from the dil. How lovely it is that dog is so loved etc. will screenshot those now.

gamerchick · 08/11/2014 08:00

Is she tight with money?

Add up every single penny you can think of and make up an invoice of your dog sitting services (since thats how shes treating you) for the past year and a bit then give her a copy.

puntasticusername · 08/11/2014 08:04

If you ask me, keeping the KC papers is a sign that whatever was said at the time, she never really meant to let Daisy go permanently.

Agree with everyone else - stand firm and gather all the evidence you can. It seems clear that a further change in home and family would not be in the dog's best interest.

either that or do that thing they did with Bouncer in Neighbours when Mrs Mangle was arguing with someone else over who owned him, and they put him in the middle of Ramsey Street and both called him and saw who he went to

MothershipG · 08/11/2014 08:06

Why don't you reply disingenuously saying that you sympathise but that you are sure that she would want to put Daisy's welfare first rather than expose her to the stress and upheaval of another move after she has settled so well becoming a much loved member of your family.

If she still persists then you can just say no, not happening.

Kitsmummy · 08/11/2014 08:07

I remember your thread at the time. No way can she have her back! Spell it out to her in no uncertain terms

ChasedByBees · 08/11/2014 08:08

I wouldn't give her a dog sitting invoice - if she pays it then it's almost like OP has provided services to dog sit only. Jut say no and if me cedars get a solicitor to write an email. I'd beware of them trying dirty tricks though...

code · 08/11/2014 08:10

They rehomed the dog to you which you even paid for. Her microchip is registered to you and they even authorised you changing it. No judge in the country would take that dog from you OP. Woman doesn't care about the dog as no one who did would want to cause further upheaval to this young dog. I would keep calm at this stage, remind the woman that first and foremost they advertised the dog for sale, took money for it, re-registered the chip and that it is settled with you. Be clear that you won't be returning her.

Shockers · 08/11/2014 08:10

If your dog has been registered with your vet, in your name since Aug '13, I imagine she's got no chance of getting anyone to take her seriously!

Catthiefkeith · 08/11/2014 08:11

I can't believe she planned it - she really was very ill, I asked the dil if she was KC registered and she just said no I don't think so.

I never pursued it because it didn't make any difference to us as she was never going to be bred/shown.

Far more likely that crazy lady has found them and thought aha! I can use these.

I wonder if she knows Daisy has been spayed? I think I need to compose an email back, but am at work at 9.Sad

By law, he is now yours as money exchanged hands and "property transfer" has happened.

Foxbiscuitselection · 08/11/2014 08:13

By text or email

No I'm sadly unable to return the dog. As you know the dog was origionly offered for sale on FB with the exact words being 'will be put down if no buyer found'. I have copied the whole discussion and can send you a copy if needed. Woman was aware the move would be permanent because we had a long detailed discussion in which I made it very clear. I bought the dog on x date, I paid for his injections, he's part of my family and it would totally devastate the kids and myself. Secondly when I bought the dog I was told there were no papers and its disappointing to find out I have been lied to.

Catthiefkeith · 08/11/2014 08:14

She's been registered with the vet since December 2013, the chip was changed in September 2013.
