Just that really. I have 2 iPads one is an IPad 1 and one is and iPad 3 gave the older one to my mum to use and after the latest update it's pretty much been rendered useless.

Most apps don't work. Safari cuts off, can't watch videos on FB etc. all after this update. I realise it's an older model, but I also think that I spent a not insubstantial amount of money on it only a few years ago and think its annoying that I'm being forced into buying a new one if I want to keep using an iPad. Think I'll be replacing with an android device.

trendstopper. I tried using an older pre ios8 backup for my iPad but it wouldn't work. It nearly did it but it didn't quite work. I'm sure I did everything right.

The only good thing was that I didn't loose my Candy Crush levels.

I never update anything until I am actually forced to as it won't work any more and I have never had a problem with my suite of dearly beloved apple products. Except once when I got a faulty iPhone which was replaced by Apple.

Dh on the other hand insists on doing every update and is always swearing under his breath about the glitches. He never learns.

I don't understand why Apple need to make so many updates in the first place if it's not to force you to buy newer models.

No-one else has as many updates. I've had my Galazy Ace for two years and that's never needed to be updated.

I have ye olde iPad 1 and just today I was saying I'm sure they've sent some bug to make it extra shit, slow and crash just in time for Xmas. OH wants to get another but I don't agree with the constant push to upgrade, the price tag and wank factor. Only thing i like is the big screen.

I have updated an iPad mini retina and an iPhone 4S to iOS 8 and they're both working fine.

I love Apple.

Just to stick my neck on the line but I like Apple sorry!! DP (a military computer and communications geek) and I plus our kids have iPhones of various ages - they won't all run ios8 but everything is working fine. We both have iPads and I have an iPad Mini and they're fine - compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tabs 2 of my sons have which frequently freeze and require rebooting, Android devices seem to do this often which is why I came back to Apple. Their customer service is first rate too - my phone (out of warranty) developed a slight issue and they replaced it with a brand new one within 5 mins of entering the shop, no arguing.

Going to get lynched by Android lovers now.....

Meh, the problem is that I WILL buy a new iPad and I'm sure I will love it. I'll give my glitchy ipad2 to my non techie DS1 to replace his iPad2. He will be pleased with the upgrade even if it's glitchy. Apple wins.

Samsung Galaxy Tablets are the higest ranking ones at the moment.

3 iPads, 3 iPhones and no problems here [shrug] each to their own.

because I haven't had a problem with mine, any of them and I wasn't sure if Samsung were still at the top. At the time I posted that I didn't bothering googling which where the best tablets.

I'ts only because someone asked I did and found the Samsung ones were at the top of the lists.

ImTheOneThatKnocks the magnifying glass thing to amend/correct works on my old iPhone 4 which is upgraded to 8.1. Works fine.

I have a Samsung tab4 as well and it's a nice little tablet but not a patch on my ipad2 for intuitive use etc. or speed actually.

I was also smart enough to get DH a new iPod classic just before they were discontinued!

Pigmella. The magnifying thing also works on my upgraded iPhone 4S but not on my 'upgraded' Ipad2. It worked before the upgrade.

I didn't upgrade so my iPhone 5 had a fit of crossness and decided to break, telling me to connect to itunes: this worked for four days and now the iPhone is stuck on the 'connect to iTunes' page but won't restore via iTunes when I do connect.

So why would you tell people to "get a Fire"?

The Fire is cheap, because it's subsidised by Amazon and heavily modified to run their own apps and downloads.

It's worth paying a little more to get a Nexus or Samsung. They are still much cheaper than Apple, and far more flexible.

Their products only work properly with the IOS version they had on purchase. That's to force you to buy their newest gadget each year

I bought my iPad 2 Xmas 2012 with IOS 6.0
IOS 7 significantly deteriorated performance and IOS 8 has lobotomised it:
Safari won't let me type, frequent crashes, loses all links and I just had to restore all data from backup. All common complaints on Apple forums.
Even battery life has been hammered.

Support forums suggest a reset to factory settings, but it didn't help me, just extra hassle.

My iPhone 5S is fine, because it is a newer model and I don't surf on it.

I agree with pp who mentioned planned obsolescence (although that is a feature of most smart phone technology I think). Someone once said to me that just before Apple issue a new version of the iPhone, iPhones mysteriously start to run very slowly, convincing the user that they must upgrade immediately...

Mind you, to those berating the ethics of Apple (and I know there have been concerns at the working conditions of those in Foxconn factories), have you ever looked into Samsung? It allegedly steals all its tech ideas/IP from other companies (mostly from Apple) then produces cheaper versions of it. It is fighting literally hundreds of IP infringement cases. So don't get too comfy about their ethics either. (Rant over).

I know this is a silly question but if I buy a Samsung can i still access the Apple apps? For example how do I get Minecraft (not for me I might add, for ds!).
