Another 'should I interfere' one (sorry)

About three weeks ago I noticed a bag with 'Asbestos' written on it, left outside someone's house. Thought nothing of it, as it looked very well wrapped up with tape, and was probably ready for the council to remove. I've walked back that way last night and today and it's still there, and looks like the tape might be starting to peel off because it's been raining lately.
Would you phone the council or something about this, or does it always take a while for that type of thing to be dealt with?

You may be able to email the local council waste management team for advice. I found the email address on the council web page. I did that when a neighbour removed an asbestos roof from their garage and just dumped it.
The reply was not very helpful, I was told to speak to my neighbours and direct them on where to dispose of it. I had already tried that and failed!
Anyway, they may give you a more helpful response - and may speed up a collection if one has been booked.
If you know the people you could try talking to them first.

It's not an immediate neighbour, I have no idea who lives there.

If it's not on private property but on the pavement or in the road then you can call the Highways Department of your local council and report tipping. Ours usually pick things up quite quickly but of course this may need specialist treatment so may take longer.

Absolutely get it moved - it's not interfering you are being a responsible citizen so well done. If council are no help I would call 101 and have the police deal with it, at very least council will listen to them

Name changed as my username was too obvious. I work in the asbestos industry, councils do not generally pick up asbestos waste so it sounds like it has been dumped or forgotten about. If the bag is red plastic with asbestos printed on it in black then it has been left by an asbestos removal company. Try phoning the council, if not phone the health and safety executive and report it. If it is left by a removal company then they will lose their license over it (and rightly so). The hse may be able to trace who has left it .
