AIBU to think this is very funny (and well deserved?)

People who genuinely do know how to communicate properly with people make complex ideas appear simple.

This. A thousand times, this.

We have a twat already. The political system in this country is broken there is very little difference between the standard of living no matter who is in charge. I will never vote again I do know that

Wowthishurtsalot · 06/11/2014 15:37

how is it broken? As far as I can see it works

And if you refuse to vote then as far as I'm concerned you're not entitled to discuss politics or criticise policy

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:39

Grin yeah it really works we are governed by a party that more people voted against. I think I am more than qualified to discuss politics whether I vote or not. I have voted but no longer will. Many many people don't feel represented.

Wowthishurtsalot · 06/11/2014 15:41

But our system is first past the post. So by that token, it works.

But you're not. If you knew anything about politics you'll know how important it is to vote. If you really don't want a party in, vote. Apathy is how dickheads get in

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:44

I know plenty about politics but I am like many disillusioned. I voted last time and a dick head did get in.

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:45

I am far from apathetic.

Wowthishurtsalot · 06/11/2014 15:47

Then vote

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:48

Er no Smile

KidLorneRoll · 06/11/2014 15:48

What is the solution being offered by Brand though? What grand plan does he have that he comprehensively fails to articulate? I've watched his interviews, I've read his columns and I genuinely do not know what he thinks the way forward is.

Not voting is not a solution. Looking up big words in a dictionary is not a solution. I actually think he is doing any credible argument to challenge the current status quo much more harm than good. People are just going to dismiss the whole thing because of his nonsensical rants.

Wowthishurtsalot · 06/11/2014 15:50

Then you're part of the wider problem of voter apathy

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:50

Kid I don't think he is offering a solution to be fair to him. He is not equipped to but he likes the sound of his own voice and is prepared to put himself up for ridicule.

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:53

Interestingly went to a birthday party dinner thing 10 people and all professionals and 7 plan not to vote again. I was quite surprised as I expect many of them would have voted previously but didn't ask. (2 doctors and 2 legal types amongst them)

KidLorneRoll · 06/11/2014 15:54

If he isn't offering a solution than what is the point - other than inflating his massive ego?

It's easy to call the tories/labour/a.n.other a bunch of incompetent idiots, it's rather harder to actually do something about it.

More people need to engage in the political process, not less. Apathy and disengagement just means the minority are disproportionately represented.

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 15:54

double post sorry!

Wowthishurtsalot · 06/11/2014 15:55

Then they're fools and really have no place to complain about the way the country is run if they aren't prepared to follow due process to bring about that change

Short of a full blown revolution (God help us if someone like brand decides to raise up the uneducated masses) that's the only path open to us.

ThursdayLast · 06/11/2014 16:47

You don't vote.
The parties know you didn't vote.
They then don't try to gain your vote for next time.
Your demographic gets ignored in the election build up.
Your demographic feels further apathy.
Your whole demographic doesn't vote next time...

Not voting is a shit protest.
The population needs to get engaged - my limited knowledge of RBs recent rantings are that he proposes the opposite of what I believe.

Jux · 06/11/2014 17:07

The most effective way to protest is to spoilt your paper. That way, the politicians know that you're interested. If you don't do anything, then they think you're not bothered, effectively giving them carte blanche.

Please vote. Please just tick every box on your your paper or cross it through and write void on it or something, but please show the politicians that you're watching them.

Jux · 06/11/2014 17:07

spoil your paper that should say.

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 17:08

I don't agree and there are many like me. I am not apathetic I have always voted and was passionate about it and now I have changed my mind and tbh being told that I don't deserve x y and z does nothing to make me want to. It is not a protest on my part but a decision not to participate in a system that I see populated by corrupt men propped up by the old boy network. I am nearly 50 so have not decided this overnight.

Wowthishurtsalot · 06/11/2014 17:10

Spoiling your ballot paper doesn't do anything. The vote is anonymous and they don't count spoiled papers, it's the same as not turning up.

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 17:11

Yes its a misconception that 'they know you showed but weren't represented'

ghostyslovesheep · 06/11/2014 17:13

well don't vote then - but I am interested in how that changes anything either?

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 17:14

I am not expecting it to change anything the same as voting never has. They are all cut from the same cloth imo I am not urging others to do the same and believe in freedom wrt this.
