AIBU to think this is very funny (and well deserved?)

sibling

Not to go all 'playground' on you, but you don't think Russell Brand has ever bullied anyone? Really? You don't think he has invited a measure of scrutiny (and from me at least, ridicule) from his actions in the public eye?

Besides, no one is saying 'twat' after everything he says, are they? It's a redundant comparison.

Does Russell Brand really have mental health problems? Or is he just an overpaid, egotistic, narcissistic twat?

He speaks a lot of sense and is a very funny guy. The ruling elite have always tried to shut up the working class because the two want different things. All power to RB and I will be keeping close tabs on his rev-love-ulution. Who is to say he isn't the next messiah?

ThursdayLast · 06/11/2014 08:18

Me.
I say he isn't the next messiah. Grin

BOFster · 06/11/2014 08:22

I've done farts that were more working-class, and probably better at producing a coherent critique of capitalism.

HearMyRoar · 06/11/2014 08:30

'He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy'

HearMyRoar · 06/11/2014 08:33

Also as MsDeVere says low turn outs in elections inevitably result in the rise of extremism. Encouraging people to not vote is a very dangerous and damaging message to put out to people and simply shows that he really has no fucking clue what he is talking about.

teawamutu · 06/11/2014 08:34

Agree with MrsDV - he doesn't want people to vote, but without any credible alternative plan that means handing total power to the people who always vote. Basically, elderly Tories and ukippers, plus any extremists who spot a chance. Thus denying 'his people' (boak) any say at all. Yay, Russell!

Irresponsible shite imho. Pretentious irresponsible shite, which makes it even worse.

LilAnnieAmphetamine · 06/11/2014 08:38

Oh Zippey...I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that...The next Messiah? In his big fuck off range rover and private jets whilst lecturing us all on global warming and saving the planet?

He is not a 'nice guy'. He is a false face, whatever he thinks he is needed to be at any given moment/

People who assume all those who criticise him are the establishment are a being a bid daft. I am not establishment. I think he is a grandiose, self important, misogynistic bully.

Stupidhead · 06/11/2014 08:44

The Parklife thing is genius.

I agree with Johnny Rotten though, you can't complain about the government if you don't vote so regarding Brand's stance on this, I think he's a twat.

And this from me and DP who look like an older, fatter and uglier Brand and Katie Perry.

forago · 06/11/2014 08:52

You don't think he's trying to maximise his income by ramping up publicity and controversy so as to sell as many copies of his book as possible and make another couple of mill - that he will then pay 15% tax on through some celeb tax evasion scheme?

Do yu think his ex-wife pays the correct amount of tax? Do you think his gf does? Do you think he does? Massive hypocrite.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/11/2014 08:58

he just reminds me of a first year A level student who's read a couple of Socialist Workers - I have no idea what he's trying to say because I'm not sure he has - I hate people who confuse their argument with hyperbole and silly words - he's performing at all times like all politicians

I don't view him as more honest or real than any other politico

oh and love the vid - Coxon was obviously the genius of the band and I love him

ghostyslovesheep · 06/11/2014 09:01

also I thought RB had ADHD not BPD?

herecomesthsun · 06/11/2014 09:10

Thing is I probably come from a much more "deprived" background than Russell Brand. But I got an education.

There is a great tradition of people making it through to thinking for themselves from working class backgrounds, but generally that has meant evening class/ study/ eventually going to University. These days there is quite a wide access to University for people who want it, when I went there were grants, and these days it means loans and debt which is appalling, but there is a far higher proportion of people going into education.

There is a value to education in helping clarity of thought and expression and that is a worthwhile thing if you want to argue your point and, indeed, change the world with your ideas.

I think Brand has got some good points - we do have a poor choice as regards political options, the main parties do appear smug and lacking in imagination. But how are things going to be made better?

The guy in conversation with Brand recently on Radio 4 who started 38 degrees- well he has really achieved something worthwhile and made a difference. He came over as thoughtful and measured. Brand comes over as shrill and arrogant. He sounds as though he does not really understand he words he uses. It is shame. If he is serious about wanting to be a writer and a thinker then I think he needs to find a way to educate himself.

herecomesthsun · 06/11/2014 09:13

Should be

He sounds as though he does not really understand the words he uses. It is a shame.

Stupidhead · 06/11/2014 09:17

I agree Herecomesthesun.
I imagine growing up he only had the underwear section of Kay's catalogue and a thesaurus to read.

BeyondPreparedForHell · 06/11/2014 09:26

"He thinks he is Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, George Orwell, Jim Morrison, Arthur Scargill, God and Jesus all rolled in to one pair of grubby skinny jeans"

MrsD this is so spot on Grin

noddyholder · 06/11/2014 09:29

I defend his right to speak his mind even if I don't always agree with him although recently I have! There is unrest worldwide ATM and he is not unusual in his thoughts I meet many like him and applaud their commitment.

Bartlebee · 06/11/2014 09:36

I saw this on twitter a couple of days ago, I think it's a inspired retort to his style over substance ramblings.

museumum · 06/11/2014 09:44

Brand says some good stuff and some crazy stuff but I like that he's saying STUFF at all about society and how we live. Too many slebs just don't engage and from the impression mainstream media gives Young people would be reunite easily forgiven for thinking only old white men talk about society and politics.

parklife is funny though :) or at least it was on Twitter.

museumum · 06/11/2014 09:49

Though having now watched the video, with the exception of a slightly iffy use of the word pedagogy, the clips they've used all show RB saying perfectly valid things.

ElizabethLemon · 06/11/2014 10:13

The best bit is when Brand shouts "I don't need a fucking graph mate" PARKLIFE!

I agree with everything MrsDV has said. Also can't believe people are expressing sympathy for Brand being "bullied". What about his past behaviour? And the fact that he has thrown himself into the public eye, what does he expect? He's lucky that this is all he's had to deal with so far.

raltheraffe · 06/11/2014 10:13

My concern zippey is he is increasingly coming across like he believes he is the next messiah.
That is a common delusion in mania, met loads of "messiahs" in psychiatric wards.
Just hope he gets his mental state sorted as this type of behaviour cannot be sustained.
