To wish the BBC would make more family series for Sunday late afternoon TV?

Maybe it's me getting older but I was just thinking about the serials that used to be on the BBC around now on a Sunday. Narnia, Five Children and It, The Borrowers etc.

Is it wrong to wish for more series like that to enjoy with the DC so I don't have to endure quite so much CBeebies

imogenquy the box of delights isn't QUITE the same, but I still enjoyed it!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/11/2014 19:38

I've found it for about that price on a couple of other sites too.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/11/2014 19:39

When I say that price I mean less than £10 not £125.

JennyBlueWren · 02/11/2014 19:45

I like the idea of having a Sunday family viewing slot for something like that. Will try to remember and do that with our DC once they're old enough.

I loved watching

MONKEY!

As you were Grin

I bought Box of delights for dh last xmas. It wasn't quite as I remembered.

AnyoneForTardis · 02/11/2014 20:22

On a rainy sunday, when we got home from church, had lunch, we'd have the tv on all afternoon (while doing other things too) all in one room,

Thunderbirds

Catweazle

Follyfoot

Black Beauty

Box of delights

the secret garden or something like that.

there was a comedy with Christopher Timothy (think that was his name).

Now with DC its Top gear, cbbc, cbiebbees, Dr Who if its on anywhere.

love them but yes, I miss the old days......

Just ordered the Box of Delights....I blame Mumsnet for the ridiculous amount I spend on Amazon. You ladies remind me of something...I buy it. Grin

I'm the right age for all these series as a child. I hated them all. :o

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/11/2014 20:38

Do you know what would have worked? Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising Sequence.

I don't think they ever did those and I reckon they would have worked.

Annietheacrobat · 02/11/2014 20:39

Not strictly children's tv but I used to love watching Hi de Hi on a Sunday evening.

AnyoneForTardis · 02/11/2014 20:43

Christopher Beeny? oh who am I trying to remember? come on, help! he looked like a Wallace and Gromit type character, think it was him and his mum or something, with dads army type decorated house.

oh and I remember stars on sunday usually with Thora Hird or Harry Seacombe.

I loved the serialised Dickens novels. I'm ancient so I think it must be time to try them again.

Biscuitsneeded · 02/11/2014 20:57

I watched The Box of Delights with the DC last Xmas. They got rather bored, I'm afraid. Does anyone remember watching The Treasure Seekers, The Enchanted Castle and The Phoenix and the Carpet in the 70s/early 80s?

casperandjasper · 02/11/2014 21:00

Agree with a pp - Catweazle and Follyfoot. Loved them as a child.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 02/11/2014 21:07

You can't show old telly to modern kids though; it's too slow and the effects are too clunky.

We tend to record stuff for family times; Sunday afternoon is good for family fiims.

kentishgirl · 02/11/2014 21:25

Flambards!

roamer2 · 02/11/2014 21:27

We hook our laptop up to the TV and then we can watch when we want .

Also there are some of the old series available on the Net on sites like amazon such as tom sawyer and heidi and we have found some at the library

however they are not free then...

Astarael · 02/11/2014 21:49

I loved The Magician's House. I'm sure that was a Sunday night as I used to watch it at my grandma's house.

Coumarin · 02/11/2014 21:56

I adored Narnia. I've bought the bbc DVD of the series to watch as an adult.

I watched it at my Nanna's house in her little back parlour. Fold out tin tray/table in front of the fire, tinned salmon sandwiches in little triangles, peaches with tip-top for dessert or a Victoria sponge. Always with really sweet, milky tea in a little china cup with a saucer. The theme tune added to by the budgie chirping in the corner.

Also, Knight Rider. But that might've just been my Nanna.

Coumarin · 02/11/2014 21:59

Oh yeah
