...to think that hen parties cost too much nowadays?

Another weekend, another invite to a hen do.

We're hiring a cottage down South, 20 girls invites, some activities and food included. Cost per person - £280.00. This doesn't include travel, or alcohol.

Add this to the two-day spa break I've had to turn down, plus the weekend in Portugal I've said I can't go to and the night in London at a 5* hotel, show and dinner. Each of those were coming in at £300+.

I have two small DC's and DH and am currently on maternity leave. Most of my friends are in the same position (either pregnant or with small children) and those getting married just don't seem to get that I can't justify spending so much on a hen do.

AIBU not to go?

Lapsed- just because it has been going on for a while doesn't mean it hasn't got out of hand.

A hen night used to be a night down the pub with a net curtain on your head and some L plates. I'm not saying people should still stick to that, but needing passports, annual leave and credit cards means that they have moved into orbit and become something ridiculous. Don't even get me started on paying for the bride (see my earlier post)

The bride's getting a wedding- does she really need such extravagance in addition to that?

I do agree with Lapsed^^- it's all about egotism now and it stinks.

I had an invite for a hen involving hire of a cottage and various activities. The organiser said it's only 300 but I did reply all to the invite pointing out that this didn't include the cost of 300 mile journey, taxis to and from the cottage and the activities, alcohol, two restaurant meals, fancy dress specified by the CBM and gifts for the bride. I was far from being the only one who declined on the grounds of cost so the CBM then organised an additional hen night night in local town with just a meal.

They may do something similar if people can't afford the 1st idea.

I didn't have a hen myself as I didn't want to have guests forking out on that as well as hotel/outfit/travel/ gift etc.
