To think this can't have been a prank?

So I went to my friends with a few others for a Halloween takeaway/film night. Had a good time and set off home at 12:15am dropping off another friend on the way.
Pull down my road and turn in to my car port (which is a blind corner with a huge bush in the way) to find a 13/14 year old girls body unconscious face down covered in what I can only assume was fake blood and almost ran her over!
This gets a lot stranger so please keep reading.

I live on a military base abroad so usually very safe nothing dramatic ever happens. Anyway, I shout to her several times as I am so scared I am shaking and crying by this point and I'm heavily pregnant which doesn't help my crazy emotions. I say I'm going to ring an ambulance in case she was just messing around but I hadn't seen her move at this point. So I'm on the phone for 5 minutes and they are on their way and I notice next doors lights are on so I waddle round to get them which took 2 minutes max. Take them round and the girl has vanished!!! I'm not even joking.
She had no shoes on and wasn't moving and she did a runner! The ambulance comes flying round the corner and I have to explain she's gone (husband is a medic so I know them but he's currently away so not around to help) and I feel like an actual crazy person!

They went out to search for her and the police came round to take a description etc but I don't know if they found her! I can't get the image out my head of this body on my drive and my mum mentioned it could be a prank but seriously no one would go that far??

Didn't you check for a pulse while calling ambulance? It's a bit odd calling an ambulance without going over and seeing her

Halloween or not - this is quite disturbing.
OP could have run the girl over, which doesn't bear thinking about. If it was a prank it was stupid and could have resulted in serious injury or death.
Also - if it was a drunk 13 year old, passed out - that is incredibly dangerous too. Anything could have happened to her, military base or not.
TBH I would be reporting the incident because of these two things, to flag up your concerns.

Be interested to see if there's an update to this later. Hope you're feeling ok op.

Being Halloween Id think it was a prank, then take a very close look to see if its a boosy teen. I'd probably check for breathing/pulse next while phoning NHS

I apologise Funky I didn't realise it was appropriate Halloween behaviour to put yourself in that much danger I probably should have just laughed it off and gone to bed Hmm

I think it's more likely that she was drunk and managed to rouse herself than it was a prank.

Why would they choose your carport to play a prank in rather than the road? She might have had to wait for hours!

Unless she knew you and knew you were coming but why do that to someone pregnant?

And why not reveal the 'hilarious' prank as soon as the op got out of the car, rather than lie there waiting for the situation to escalate?

Babyleopard23 · 01/11/2014 08:24

We don't have NHS here, so it's either ambulance or nothing. I'm not first aid trained but in any other situation I would have checked for pulse etc I was just literally frozen with fear I couldn't go close to her I just kept trying to talk to her but got no response just a few movements.

I completely agree Savoy.

I definitely didn't know her. I live on a square and she doesn't live on this one so I think she maybe got confused as there is 5 separate squares down this main road.

I didn't even know what time I would be back myself so unless she was waiting there all night I don't see how it would have worked?

I'm going to say prank as well; she probably did a runner when you disappeared to the neighbours.

Yes, teenagers are that thoughtless and inconsiderate, and would have found your reaction hilarious. You'll probably find it on Youtube soon.

Hope you're all right now though x

OP you did the right thing in the situation. Ridiculous for other posters to get high and mighty about what the OP should've done -she was clearly panicked.

Be interested to hear if you find out who it was!

Was someone filming it? Maybe it's on youtube somewhere.

I would not approach an apparently unconscious drunken person if I did not know who they were. I would be worried in case it was a trick to distract you or in case they kicked off.

Considering the op is pregnant, was alone and it was dark I don't think she had any responsibility to check if this person was breathing. She called the authorities for them to deal with it which is fine imo.

Dh did once, with the aim of trying to help and the drunk tried to attack him. I've found "bodies" early in the morning in local parks but I won't go near them to check if they're ok - I've just called the police and when I've explained why I don't want to approach them (as a lone person with a young baby/child in a pretty much deserted park early in the morning) the police have always been understanding. (All of the "bodies" have turned out to be passed out drunks who the police have moved on btw).

I think Savoy's explanation sounds most likely

I spent some time on Akrotiri as a teenager and this is exactly the sort of thing that my very stupid mates and I would probably have done (if we weren't so busy watching pirated videos) but someone else would have seen us and told our parents and we would be in So Much Trouble.

(but we wouldn't have singled you out, we would have been doing it all night to everyone)

They (and I doubt it was just 1 person someone would have been hiding just out of sight) will have been freaked by your calling the ambulance and have run for it.

kids are stupid. Hopefully you'll get a sheepish apology today (but I wouldn't hold your breath)

It's a prank. The "rules" on how to do it properly - where to put the fake blood, where to lie - were all over the internet a few days ago.

The person who gets the "Best" reaction from a member of the public wins. Someone else films it.

If the police get called, it tells you to make a run for it, so I imagine that is what she did.

Horrid, but a well-known prank.

Angry
What a fucking stupid thing to do. She could have actually been run over. I hate the idea that someone would be filming it and laughing at someone being terrified Angry

I imagine they waited for you to disappear before legging it so that you wouldn't be able to see who they were.

Absolutely horrible for you.

If it was a prank that is a ridiculously cruel and childish prank to play on someone. If she had been ran over my the car she could have been seriously injured. Who risks their health (or life, for that matter) for a joke?!

Report
VileStatistyx · 01/11/2014 13:51

I am not sure someone could go from passed out cold to legging it in a minute.

I think it is far more likely to have been a prank and when she (they-people hiding too?) saw what you were doing, they scarpered.

Definitely a prank. You don't get many murders / assaults in Cyprus!

Report
Babyleopard23 · 01/11/2014 14:02

What I don't understand though is they would have had to have run past me to get out the square iyswim. So I would have seen/heard them.

Just seems odd they would wait on a random hidden drive way when they had no idea if I would be coming home or not that late at night!

I will solve this no matter how long it takes!

I think it bothers me more the fact I was so close to running over her having not seen her and imagining if I had injured her or worse.

Oh what a horrible thing to happen Sad

Are you ok now? Less shaken?

Report
Thumbscrewswitch · 01/11/2014 15:42

Vile - it depends - I've gone from passed out cold (knocked my head and fainted) to legging it away from the crowd I'd attracted in Twickenham on rugby day in about that. But I wasn't passed out from being drunk, which might make the difference.

Baby - IF it was a prank and there was another idiot lurking somewhere nearby filming, then the "body" girl would have joined the idiot wherever they were hiding and waited for you to go inside before leaving. Unless there was absolutely nowhere like that for them to hide?

That sounds terrifying for you. What a dangerous thing to do if it was a prank.
There was a horrifying ( but quite funny to watch from your couch) prank shown on Russell Howard this week. If seems that this type of prank is all the rage.

Ok the mystery is solved for anyone wanting to know!

It turned out it was my neighbour (DHs boss' wife!).
I still can't believe it! They are lovely lovely people honestly and she was so upset about what she did to me. She basically had too much to drink and went to look for her husband but just fell asleep! I didn't ask where she went but at least I know Im not going crazy.
DH is really angry mainly because he's away but I can rest now it is all resolved and she is fine!
