Aibu to give trick or treaters...

The sweets I don't like?

Currently munching my way through massive family pack of assorted sweets, there's a few quite revolting ones... I'm chucking those in the trick or treaters bowl... There's also a few 'trick' sweets, that turn your mouth blue and foam up, etc. So really there's no treat... Just fake sweets or rank ones...

I'm a bad person aren't I?

Just as a side note, the little ones came around earlier (they got good ones), these are for the older 'children', seriously I swear one of them was about 17... Personally I don't like giving anything to inappropriately slutty cat costume dressed teenagers!

You're going to even answer the door to them!

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 31/10/2014 18:40

*good I meant

fairgame · 31/10/2014 18:43

YANBU first come first served for the good stuff. Plus bad sweets could be classed as a 'trick' so really you are just getting in the spirit of things Halloween Wink
I've just seen two older teenage girls trick or treating as zombie schoolgirls with low cut tops and short shorts. It made me cringe.

ohhhhpieceofcandy · 31/10/2014 18:54

My sister gave them cereal bars one year as it was all she had in the house. I think they were a bit bemused!

Hatespiders · 31/10/2014 19:14

We've nearly run out of sweets. My dh has rushed down to the village shop to get some more, but they close at 7pm and I reckon he's too late!
This year there've been lots of children at the door. I badly miscalculated with my supplies!
(A group of six boy-skeletons rather went for it and took huge handfuls, little buggers!)

DoYouSmellParsnips · 31/10/2014 19:25

I tend to give each person something rather than offering the bowl... We had a girl last year that went in with both hands and took bloody loads! That's just bad trick or treat etiquette!

Just had three older teenagers at the door who actually said 'is that it?' When I dished out the sweets. Hope they get revolting ones!

Mine lasted pretty well but then I tend to buy too many in the first place. No-one did a turn but most of them had taken a lot of trouble with their costumes so I admired them all very loudly.

(I didn't half feel like offering a stiff drink coffee to the Mums and Dads who were escorting them round though - they looked very tired.)

NotTheKitchenAgainPlease · 31/10/2014 19:28

No trick or treaters here Sad
We have pumpkins out and tons of sweets

cozietoesie · 31/10/2014 19:31

It's happened to me before, NotTheKitchen. Had to eat everything myself !

BlinkingHeck · 31/10/2014 19:32

Ohhhpieceofcandy I'm giving out cereal bars this year ... My kids won't eat them I need rid of them. Grin

ScreamEggsAndHam · 31/10/2014 19:35

Ours have all gone, and I'm not going out for more supplies. Any one else wanting sweets, tough boobles. We've got the living room light turned off now and pretending we're not in. Grin

ReallyTired · 31/10/2014 19:38

I think it's pretty nasty to give trick sweets to children. The fact that nasty people would give a child trick sweets is why children should never take sweets from strangers. I find it sad that young children might learn that it's dangerous to trust adults you don't know through experience.

We had one trick or treaters and I gave them some sweets as I recognised the child. I have real mixed feelings as I really don't agree with Hallowe'en. The OP has entered in the satanic spirit of Hallowe'en.

ReallyTired · 31/10/2014 19:40

I know someone who gave out copies of Matthew's gospel along with the sweets. Strangely he didn't get pestered the following year.

cozietoesie · 31/10/2014 19:40

I've turned off the porch light. I can still hear the occasional shriek outside but I think it's the kids in the nearby houses comparing hauls and swapping sweets now.

Maiyakat · 31/10/2014 19:44

Whatever I do none of them will take the parma violets...

DoYouSmellParsnips · 31/10/2014 19:48

Yep satanic spirit pretty much sums me up...

As I said the young children came around earlier and they got good sweets... It's only the older ones out and about now, who are probably too old for it anyway. Our area gets into Halloween in a pretty big way, in our street there's a full grave yard in one garden, witch's lair in another, Apple bobbing, pull the treat out of the bowls of gross stuff...

Surely if you don't want your children taking sweets from strangers, don't allow them to knock on their door and ask for them?

Maiyakat my Dd loves Parma violets! Only person ever to though!

ReallyTired are you for real? That's ridiculous!

JennyBlueWren · 31/10/2014 19:56

I chucked all the toffees (from sweets we were eating) into the box of sweets for trick or treaters. Don't like them but they might.

BuilderMammy · 31/10/2014 20:03

I filched all the milky bar buttons out of the bowl. I know they're disgusting and more sugary than actual sugar lumps but I can't resist them!

JamaicanMeCrazy · 31/10/2014 20:07

One of my dcs got a wee bag of sweets with a tag attached. The tag was a promotional thing for a lingerie shop and said they could get a free bra fitting and free pair of frilly knickers Hmm

StarlightMcKenzie · 31/10/2014 20:09

Next year I'm going out trick or treating with my kids and then halving their loot to return to the knocking kids.

Seriously, the kids have more than a years supply that they are currently munching their way through, and I have given up our Christmas tub of quality street.

RainbowRabbit33 · 31/10/2014 20:13

I've got some dark chocolate with chilli that has too much chilli in it for my taste. I wondered if I could get away with giving it away to badly-costumed teenagers...

BlueberryWafer · 31/10/2014 20:20

RainbowRabbit absolutely do this Grin

Moln · 31/10/2014 20:22

As far as I'm aware I understand it's trick or treat law that you only hand out the ones you don't like. I'm not 100% sure what sentence breaking this law carries, but I, for one, don't plan to risk it.
