To be feeling hard done by?

Hi!

I've been with the family I work for a year, and tomorrow will be my last day. I'm feeling a bit hard done by, because I have been asked to "vacate the room" tomorrow night, after working a 60hr week, and I'll then have to make the 2.5hr drive back home after leaving (at about 8.30pm).

The family have been so good to me over the past year, and I'm sure we will still keep in touch, however I just wanted to know if this is normal, or if other families may allow you to stay till at least Saturday lunch time

Thanks in advance!

If someone's taking over your duties, is someone else needing the room?

I think it's a bit harsh. I'm not sure what the norm is, (I was a live out nanny) but I would have thought, a bit of a chat between the two of you, with the parent saying 'when do you think you would be ready to leave?' Would have been helpful. Maybe they have plans on the Saturday, but even so, they could have helped you out a bit. Nannies by the nature of what they do, become a bit like one of the family and I would have been really hurt if one of my families had treated me like this.

Can you ask to stay on until Saturday lunchtime?
Just tell them after working a 60 hour week it would be much safer for you to drive after a good nights sleep.
I'm sure they won't object to that.
