OP, I openly admit i have not RTFT, but prosecco (sp?) and sparkling wine is sold in measures of 125ml, which is nothing. It should NOT have cost 14 quid, but that is what a glass of prosecco by the glass looks like, sadly (due to huge wastage per ml). Not good, but sadly the fact.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 30/10/2014 00:14

SHIT A WORM?! OP I'msorry for being flippant.

OP you deserve a full refund. If you don't feel able, ask DP to write a rationally sound response, and do not accept credit - only accept cash back. Worms are non-negotiable.

words/phrases I would use (personally)

'have already told my friends not to come'

'incredibly poor food hygiene' (veiled threat to report)

I have more, but I'm not thinking straight. Apologies for my previous post, I must always RTFT. Do you happen to know if it's a chain?

YANBU OP! Anywhere that charges 14 quid for a prosecco should be filling the glass up and not being pedantic about official measures

I'd tell them you won't be paying, but not before you cancel the credit or debit card that held the room

Or actually I'd cancel the card then dump the key on the desk and leave

Don't cry because these guys are twunts OP.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 30/10/2014 11:08

OP - Just wondering how the rest of your stay was and if you told them you didn't didn't want the £50.00 credit as you wouldn't be back?

dottytablecloth · 30/10/2014 11:16

We are sitting here waiting to check out at midday.

Feeling a little nervous as I really hate complaining or confrontation BUT we work too hard to out up with this kind of service.

I woke in the middle of the night and was absolutely starving with hunger due to my lack of food last night.

I'm sad and raging at the same time that our last trip before dc2 has been ruined.

We WON'T be able to afford to come back to this 'quality' of place again! i.e the prices when we have two kids.

Sad

Hopefully we will laugh about it in a years time!

Wonder if they would even care if we posted about the experience on Trip Advisor?

Might help if we knew where it was ......

dottytablecloth · 30/10/2014 11:27

It's ROI happy somewhere in Co Monaghan.

You really ought to tell them what you've told us Dotty.

A worm in your food is appalling and unacceptable. I wouldn't go somewhere if I knew someone had previously found a worm in their starter and I doubt I'm alone in that view - the hotel wouldn't want that on Trip Advisor or any other review website.

Tell them that this was supposed to be a rare treat and it's been ruined for you. The worm put you off your food and you went to bed hungry as you didn't want to eat anything else from their kitchen.

Decide what outcome you want from this (ie: Money off this bill) before speaking to them so that they don't fob you off again.

dottytablecloth · 30/10/2014 11:56

Checked out and they deducted £50 off the bill, no questions asked.

Would you still post on trip advisor or leave it?

Pity you are in Ieland as I would happily send you a bottle of Prosecco and wouldn't charge you £14 either ... RIP off

AimlesslyPurposeful · 30/10/2014 12:00

I think I probably would still post on Trip Advisor, that's what it's for after all, but add that they deducted £50.00 from the bill.

Cleo22 · 30/10/2014 12:01

Definitely post

NorwaySpruce · 30/10/2014 12:06

Definitely put it on Trip advisor.

£300 a nigh, £14 for a glass of over sold wine, and a worm !?

I'd want more than £50 off. Unless quirky comedy was their selling point, or you were sharing a bed with Alan Rickman or something.

19lottie82 · 30/10/2014 13:37

The price is extortionate for a glass of prosecco!!! BUT in terms of the size of the glass, all drink measurements are legally set, and the weights and measures team regularly visit bars to check they are not under or over serving. A glass of prosecco should be 125ml.

19lottie82 · 30/10/2014 13:38

it looks pretty flat tho!

LeBearPolar · 30/10/2014 13:56

To put it into perspective you can get a cupcake and a glass of champagne in Knightsbridge for £15...And a glass of champagne in Liberty's Champagne and Oyster bar for £8.50.

Justgotosleepnow · 30/10/2014 14:53

Op that is what trip advisor is for!
To warn other unsuspecting people of crappy establishments.
I'm so sorry your trip was ruined and they won't refund you.
Just put on trip advisor what happened, it's only fair.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 30/10/2014 15:03

Agree with Justgotosleep - Trip Advisor is there so you can find out in advance what a place is really like.

£300 per night isn't cheap and you expect a certain standard of room, service and food from somewhere that charges that amount. At the very least you wouldn't expect garden creepy crawlies in your food. I assume it came in with the veggies/salad but it obviously hadn't been washed or prepared properly if a worm ended up on your plate!

Justgotosleepnow · 30/10/2014 20:44

Op I don't want to scare you, but you are pregnant right?
The unwashed starters with the worm could have harboured some food poisoning bacteria. As the kitchen hygiene is clearly VERY slack. Maybe it was good there was a worm in it, so you didn't eat it? Some good poisoning can be very serious for pregnant people.

So definitely trip advisor review, warts worms and all.

OneSkinnyChip · 31/10/2014 10:52

Please name and shame OP and Trip Advisor too.

We stayed in a similar overpriced pile of shite on the outskirts of Dublin. The mattress on the bed was so shit we had to move rooms in the middle of the night. Also got offered a poxy voucher off.

I am happy to tell you they went into receivership not long afterwards.

Notbythehaironmychinnychinchin · 31/10/2014 10:57

I had a shitty experience at a chain hotel and it wasn't cheap. Offered me a free stay to make up for it, but in ever ended up using it - couldn't bear to set foot in the place again. I'd always ask for a reduction now.

My rule for trip advisor is if it meets expectations, don't comment. If it's much better or worse than expected then do comment.

Whatchamacalllit · 31/10/2014 11:21

While I am surprised at how the hotel handled your issue in relation to finding additional protein in your starter (trying and probably failing to lift the mood), I'm not surprised at the size of the glass of prosecco or the cost of it.

Most 'cheap' wines in Ireland are about 8 or 9 per bottle in a supermarket. In a hotel you could be paying 15 or 16 for their cheapest house wines. Sparkling wines are more expensive again so getting a glass of sparkling wine would be more expensive than a similar glass of still wine. Madness but that is the way it is.

I would complain and say that you're not happy with how they 'dealt' with your issue up to now and if they don't sort it to your satisfaction (decide what that is before you make this statement by the way), that you will be left with no option but to post your experience on Trip Advisor.
