Check out Mumsnet's latest post on Facebook about the woman who was catcalled 100 times in New York over a 10 hour period.

Sorry can't seem to link to the actual post.

We seem to have a much stronger reaction here on the site to women being catcalled in the street.

Is it that people don't like to speak out publicly on FB about this kind of thing? Or is it a different audience on FB?

I've noticed a couple of similar threads about treatment of women on MN on Facebook where the opinion seems really different to here on the site.

D'you know, I've been on MN for nearly 4 years now and have never even seen the FB page.

I now know why I haven't sought it out Grin

People aren't so willing to lie to make themselves look good free with their opinions when they have to put their name to it, clearly.

alicemalice · 29/10/2014 17:29

I think the lack of anonymity is a big factor, speaking out in front of all your friends. Not sure it's about lying to make yourself look good here, Walkinginmemphis

I don't like catcalling. But is it something you want to enter into a debate on on FB? That can be an intimidating thing to do.

Yanbu, some people go out of their way to be sanctimonious, perfect people on here but only because it's anonymous. Ever read threads and think 'yeah right' you said that or it happened that way?

alicemalice · 29/10/2014 17:38

Sorry I think I'm being misunderstood here. I'm a feminist and I dislike catcalling.

But I mean, do people who don't like catcalling feel inhibited about speaking about it on FB. Because I do!
