DP and I aren't married. I'm miss letthemtalk, he's Bob Other name. I sometimes get cold calls asking for Bob Letthemtalk, I just say sorry there is no Bob Letthemtalk, and they generally apologise for the wrong number. Dmil says I should explain that Bob is Bob Other name and take message/pass phone over etc. My view is that if they don't even know his name it can't be that important. No idea where or when Bob's name got caught up with mine.

So aibu??

Incidentally I absolutely would not give someone the correct name without asking them to state who they are first. Don't give out personal details to people on fishing expeditions. Conversation should go:

'Is imaginary-person here?'
'Who is calling, please?'

And only if you get a good explanation then give them the correct details/pass them on.

I do the same. I often get asked 'is that Mrs H's name' and I truthfully say 'there's no-one of that name at this address'.

My two penn'orth is that it matters not one fig what your MIL wants, in this situation, as it is none of her business, and she should keep her beak out. What does your DP want you to do? That's far more relevant. If he's happy with it, then carry on!
