Aibu to expect people to control their dogs in country parks? We went out today with our two dc to do a grufelo trail, we went on the trail that was designed for family's stating it was pushchair friendly. Ds1 had a stick in his hand and a dog bounded over at him trying to pull the stick out of his hand! Needless to say he was terrified and never wants to go back to said park again! The owner just gave a half hearted sorry as she walked off! There was numerous dogs running all over the place inc in the play areas and when the owners called them just carried on. Aibu to think that if you can't control your dog you shouldn't let it off the lead?

I have not been rough on anyone.

She is the one that called me vole and ignorant.

There is no happy medium with a small minority of people.

They hate dogs. They think dogs shouldn't be off lead in a park, even the ones who show no interest in jumping up for sticks.
That they have no rights to enjoy life.

Thankfully in my day to day life I never meet them. Just people, some without dogs who tell me what lovely well behaved dogs I have.

This hysteria on MN us something I yet have to witness in RL.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one!

I have just been reminded that both my dh and my db have been attacked by dogs totally unprovoked many years ago

The thing is even the best behaved dog can have an off moment.

What are dog owners meant to say when their dog decides to greet a stranger/strangers child? Surely "he is being friendly" is the most placatory thing which can be said, as well as an apology?

There are arsehole owners out there, I come across one often. He has two black labs who he walks off lead and claims are aggressive (as far as I can tell they're not) but he is. Very. I have seen him scream at a child to get away from his dogs. keep them on a fucking lead then. That surely isn't better than the alternative "he's being friendly?".
