All over a Sherlock DVD

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:11

Dd and her friend both love Sherlock. They watched a DVD belonging to her friend which dd now can't find. Friend is messaging dd saying that dd now owes her £18 to replace the DVD. Dd did not borrow the DVD, friend left it here after they both watched it.
Ainu to say I am not paying £18 to replace it? Also what should dd say to her friend? Girls are both 12.

It's in your house - tell her to find it

Replace it if it doesn't turn up in 3 months

LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2014 20:14

It's under the couch

You need to move the couch to find it and not just look under

Bearandcub · 25/10/2014 20:15

Tell your dd you will help her look for it. Advise her to tell her friends to calm down.

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:16

Thanks Laurie, should I tell the friend to find it? She is being quite arsey with dd on facebook. Should I talk to friend's mum?

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2014 20:17

Tell your Dd to get off facebook, she doesn't have to listen to it.

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:18

Bear I have looked for it, unsuccessfully. Doesn't help that it has no case, so they put into another case.

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2014 20:19

I wouldn't talk to anyone apart from message the girl to tell her that it will be looked for and you will let Her know when it's found - she's a kid and is to young for bloody facebook anyway - they always get arsey when they're too young

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:19

I have. X factor is on. She wants me to talk to the mum. I will but not now.

If it's in the house then it's not actually in need of replacement. Friend will just have to wait til it turns up surely? It can't be that far lost?

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:20

Oh, you think no Mum. Okay, I'll tell dd to leave it for now. Thanks.

fuzzpig · 25/10/2014 20:20

It's not even in a case anymore and she wants £18?! Am assuming it's all 3 series she's lost then?

2minsofyourtime · 25/10/2014 20:21

You'd ds needs to go through all the cases, Surely dd can find it.

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:22

Fuzz pig that's really what I think. Fair enough if dd had borrowed it, but she didn't. If the situation was reversed I wouldn't expect friend to reimburse dd, it would be her tough luck for leaving it there. It is your stuff, you look after it, god I have been saying that for bloody years.

OP posts:
baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:23

Apparently you can't buy just one DVD so she needs the entire series. Hmmm.

CSIJanner · 25/10/2014 20:28

I call shenannagans on the £18 as season 1-2 is £10 on Amazon. Series 3 is £8 and one disc does not make a three season box set at £17.99. She's having a larf

fuzzpig · 25/10/2014 20:30

Which discs are lost BTW? £18 is unnecessary unless she's lost all 3 series (not that she should expect you to pay anyway!)

Did she know it was lost before she left your house BTW? Or did she just forget until later? Because if the later then she is being even cheekier - making sure you've not left anything behind is play date 101, even my 5yo knows that!

WaywardOn3 · 25/10/2014 20:32

You can buy that very cheaply in cex. Even cheaper if you can find it in that's entertainment without a case since they sell them without cases in some cases :-)

Wouldn't replace it though, there's a lesson for the friend to learn from this

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:34

It is 2 episodes, the study in pink and blind banker, apparently.
Yes much later, I think she left it here about a month ago, she is having a larf isn't she? Naughty naughty.

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 25/10/2014 20:36

Hahaha so there's not even a guarantee she left it there! She could've taken it home and lost it there FFS. So she has to either admit she definitely left it there - in which case it's her own fault for not taking it when she left - or admit there's actually a chance it's not even in your house.

And series one is only £7 anyway.

Chancer!

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 25/10/2014 20:38

Message the girl and say you will look for it tomorrow. Look for it.
Then if you don't find it, go buy a second hand copy - can't be more than a couple of quid. You only need to replace like for like if it is lost - a used disk not in a box, not the entire box set. Sounds like she is having your DD on TBH.
Then if she brings anything round again make her leave it in a bag at the door which is not opened till she leaves with the items. Don't let her do this again. Definate shenanigans!

baskingseals · 25/10/2014 20:45

Thanks everyone, I will have a real turf out of dd's room and if it doesn't turn up I will offer to replace exactly what has been lost, not the complete set. I hope it will be at least a lesson for dd though.

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 25/10/2014 20:52

TBH I don't think you should even replace it anyway

Nerf · 25/10/2014 20:54

It's in your house, replace it?Shock
Ds had a sleepover and some kid hilariously hid another kid's iPhone. Two weeks of stress for me, had the bins emptied, took everything apart but actually no, you need to take responsibility for stuff you take out your house.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 25/10/2014 20:55

Yes, remember what I said though, it doesn't need to be new either, as the one she lost was not new. I'd even be tempted to say it was the disk she left at my house, and dare her to prove otherwise - as the only way she could prove otherwise is if she could produce the original (thus proving the shenanigans I suspect - but I may be a cynic..).

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 25/10/2014 20:56

Or don't replace it - Nerf makes a good point!
